Jesus calls his twelve disciples and gives them power over unclean spirits and to heal diseases. He sends them out two by two to preach about the kingdom of heaven. Jesus warns them that they will face persecution from religious and political leaders, and even from within their own families. He tells them not to fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but to fear God who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

• Matthew 10:4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas
Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him.
• Simon the Zealot could mean he had a zeal for
God, and Jesus, or it could mean he was a
member of The Zealot’s, a Jewish
revolutionary group who aggressively
opposed, by force, Roman rule.

• Matthew 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out after
instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles,
and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; 6 but
rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7

heaven is at hand.‘

21. Matthew 10:28, Fear God Alone
• We must fear God and do what God wants in spite of the
circumstances.
• God allowed Daniel to be cast into the den of lions. God could have
wiped out the king and his kingdom to keep Daniel from the lions.
But no, God allowed Daniel to be tested, and for the world to see
his faith as well as God's action. Daniel was protected in the
circumstances , from danger.
• God is in control even in seemingly hopeless situations. His glory is
shown to the world when we trust God regardless of the
circumstances.

a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won't be
able to wheel back." "You're on, old man," the braggart
replied. "Let's see what you got."
