Scene: Introduction of main character

Narration: Meet Clark. Clark is high school
mathematics teacher, full-time graduate
student and a new home owner of a 1450
square foot town home! (So this picture is
a little bit of an exaggeration.)

Scene: Development of problem

Narration: Once purchased,
Clark decided to rip out ALL the
carpet and put in tile. After all,
he lives in Florida and tile is
MUCH cooler. He found a
contractor who quoted Clark a
flat $1000 for all the installation,
chose tile that cost $2.69/Sq
foot (Sales tax excluded), and
determined the total cost of the
baseboards to be $1300.

                                     Narration: Unfortunately, Clark’s
                                     contractor charged his credit

Scene: Solution – Part 1

Narration: The first part of the solution is to
calculate the total cost Clark was quoted for
the job. To do this, we will take the $1000
installation cost, plus the $1300 for the
Solution Video
baseboards, then add in the cost of the
                 tile, which was 1450 x $2.69 or $3900.50. The
total cost of the job was $6200.50.

Problem to video of work for the solution.
Scene: Solution – Part 2

Narration: To find the percentage Clark’s shady
contractor over-billed him we need to calculate
percent change. To do this we will calculate the
difference between the actual cost ($6200.5) and
                 the amount Clark was charged ($10675);
Solution Video $4474.50.

Our last step, the percent difference, we divide
$4474.50 by our original amount ($6200.50) and
                 multiply by 100.

Our final answer is 72.2%. This means Clark’s
shady contractor over-billed him by 72.2%
                 CRAZINESS!
