Lesson 1:
Measuring Time
 Time is an important concept of life.
 Telling and writing time is an important
skill that you should have. But before you
can do it, let us study first some important
concepts of time.
 Minutes and hours are units used to measure the
passing of time.
 Each small division around the edge of the clock
shows one minute.
 We use a.m. for morning, this starts from 12:00 a.m.
until 11:59 a.m.
 We use p.m. from the afternoon until late in the
evening: 12:01 p.m. until 11:59 p.m.
 There are two kinds of clocks:
 The digital clock and the analog
clock.
 The long hand or the minute
hand of the clock moves
around the clock 60 times in
1 hour.
 The short hand or the hour
hand of the clock has
moved past 8 and onwards
9.
 We can use skip counting by
5s to “read” the clock.
 In a digital clock, this is what 9 o’clock looks
like:
We can also say:
“3 quarter” for 3:15
“quarter to 3” for 2:45
“ half past 3 for 3:30
