Measuring Area
 Area describes how much surface must be covered.
 Area is measured in square units.
 A is 1 square unit. It is a unit of measurement.
 Here is an example:
 The area of this rectangle is 20 square units (20 sq. u). It is made up of 20-
unit squares
Measuring Area
 A square centimeter is written as cm².
 What is the area of the figure below?
 Since there are 5 sq. units, the area is 5
cm².
Measuring Area
 We can use other objects to find the area of a surface.
 For example, we can use a square sheet of as a unit of
area.
 We can say that the area of the table is about 8 sheets of
paper.
 Knowing how to find the area is important so that we will know how
much material we will need to cover a surface.
 For example, if we want to cover our study table with plastic, we
have to know the table’s area.
 How many square units are enclosed in each
figure.

Reading Graphs
 Everyday, we deal with data. We use these
data to understand some things around.
 There are some tools that help us understand
many things at a glance.
 One of these tools is called graph.
 A graph is used to show and compare
information. It tells a number story at a glance.
Reading Graphs
 Each box stands for 1 shape.
 There are 5 types of shape: 6 , 5 , 4 , 3 , 2 .
 There are 20 shapes altogether.
Reading Graphs
 Graphs can answer many questions.
 There are many kinds of graphs. One
of those is a pictograph.
 A pictograph is a kind of graph that
uses pictures or images to give
information.
Reading Graphs
 Give the number of books borrowed during
the:
1st week: 2nd week:
3rd week: 4th week:
 Books borrowed during the:
a. 1st and 2nd week:
b. 2nd and 3rd week:
