This document provides updates from a humanitarian organization working in the Dominican Republic. It summarizes that the writer recently stayed at their Starfish Center which provides affordable accommodations for volunteers. It also discusses several community members who received help from the organization, including children receiving school supplies, families receiving food after a hurricane, and the completion of homes for families in need. 5. September is always a big month in getting ready for school. So many families can’t afford the
uniforms and school supplies needed for their children. Franyelis (age 18) set a goal to help 50
children go to school. She asked for our help and with the help of her donors, her parents
Frank and Rosa and others she was able to complete this goal. Though she is young, she is
already making a difference here in the Dominican Republic.
6. It was a big job
purchasing, putting the
packs together and
delivering them in the
community. Thanks
Franyelis, Frank, Rosa and
family for your service!!
8. These wonderful girls from Las Vegas not only collected 700 lbs of school supplies which
were taken to the school we support in the Dominican Republic; they held a lemonade and
cookie stand and raised $400 in just one hour!! We so appreciate the support!! Funds raised
will support the Education programs in the Youth Upliftment School.
9. We raised money for food
for the hurricane victims of
Higuey, Dominican
Republic. Approximately
80 families have received
help.
Hurricane Fiona
devastation
10. Construction was completed on Dominga’s home. We
were also able to attend a beautiful opening ceremony
on September 29. This included all of the workers who
helped with the home. We appreciate all their efforts.
Dominga and her family are so very grateful for this life-
changing gift.
11. There was some structural
damage on the home we are
building for Maribel in Higuey.
This was caused by Hurricane
Fiona. Luckily she and her sister
are safe and work and repairs will
begin again in October.
12. Angelica’s home is almost
complete!! On October 8, a
group from Las Vegas, NV and
Okotoks, Alberta will be putting
on the finishing touches by
painting the home!! What a
blessing for Angelica!!
13. The home of Elias is moving
forward and will likely be
finished in October. Thanks to
Miguel, Fernando and crew!!
14. Yomira and family are
thrilled to have their new
home! All that is left to do
is the paint.
15. We are looking for help to finish three
homes. We love helping those who help
themselves. These families need a leg-up to
finish what they have done on their own.
16. Anairys
With Jack and Louise ZoBell at the
birthday celebration she helped with
in March 2022
Anairys started building her home in 2014. She has
been trying for many years and would love to move
from her rental home to her own place. She has one
son at home and 3 grandchildren that she is caring for.
She is a wonderful volunteer in the community and
helps with so many foundation activities.
We are looking for a sponsor (or group) to help her
finish her home!!
17. Yamika
Yamika is a young single mom who grew up in Maggiolo where we built our first school in
2012. She was then a young girl of 15 living with her grandma.
Yamika has been asked to leave her rental place. She has this much finished on her home. She
has done this through very hard work on her own. She no longer has a job and has reached
out to us for help. $3000 US would be enough so she could live in the unfinished space.
18. Pally & Family
Pally has 3 sons. 2 live with their
grandmother as she does not work
and can't support them as a single
mother. The father of Wederlin (a
student in our Flamingo English
school) is a motorcycle taxi so there
is not much money, and he doesn't
live with her... Her father started a
house for her next door about 10
years ago but passed away before he
could finish it.
19. Thanks to all of our
supporters who helped
make September a
wonderful month.
We are already
expecting great things
in the month of
October. We enter each
month with great
anticipation and
wonder what miracles
that could be around
the corner!
