It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

Me, Instead
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did
not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the
world might be saved through him.
John 3:16-17
This past week, I experienced another of those parental “firsts.” One Sunday night, as
Susan and I were settling down for the evening, she noticed Grayson had woken up.
This isn’t terribly uncommon as he hadn’t eaten much before bedtime, so our natural
assumption was he had simply woken up hungry. As she prepared to feed him, I went
to gather him from his crib, but found his head, pajamas, and sheets to be absolutely
soaking wet. His usual demeanor upon waking up hungry is, of course, crying and
squirming, but that night I found him lethargic and dreary.
We cleaned him up, changed his clothes, and settled him in to nurse. As I was
changing out his sheet, still trying to determine what happened, Susan called out that
he had thrown up. Not spit up, but vomiting. Quickly, I gathered him up, only to have
him retch again and cover me in throw up. This wasn’t normal. As I continued to
comfort him through subsequent dry heaving, Susan called the urgent line for his
pediatrician, who called us back to say keep monitoring his behavior and make sure to
keep him hydrated. The entire time, I kept saying to myself, “I’d rather it be me,
instead.”
I’ve been there. I know what having a virus feels like, but he’s only 8-months-old, and
watching my son retch and cough, I just wanted him to be alright and would have
gladly switched places with him, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t take away his pain. I couldn’t
make him feel better. Holding him with an overwhelming a sense of powerlessness,
trying to simply keep him calm and consoled, I wished it could have been me, instead.
In this season of Lent, as we grow ever closer to the celebration of Easter, the triumph
over death and despair through the sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus, I feel that the
sentiment I encountered holding Grayson while he experienced his first virus is
something truly connected to the divine spirit dwelling in our lives. I couldn’t take
away my son’s pain. I couldn’t make him better. I couldn’t switch places with him. It
couldn’t be me, instead.
As I reflect on the life of Christ, all he experienced leading to his eventual crucifixion,
this experience as a parent only draws me closer in relationship to God, because he did
take our place. He did switch places so we wouldn’t experience the same pain and
agony. He took that place of suffering upon himself that we wouldn’t have to endure
the punishment. God looked at His creation through the eyes of his son and said, “It
will be me, instead.”
May this season of Lent remind us in the painful experiences of life, we connect with a
God who loves us so much that he took the punishment and suffering meant for us,
and responded “me, instead.”

on the day that you volunteered to work, we ask that you please
don’t forget to find a replacement for yourself so there is
adequate coverage during the worship service. Also, if you have
a change in the schedule for the children’s nursery or children’s
church, please contact the monthly coordinator so that the
change can be made prior to the printing of the worship
bulletin. However, any permanent changes in the schedule
should continue to be handled by the lead coordinator.
Thank you for all your help.
5. The youth went on an MFUGE
trip three years ago to
Greenville, SC and had a great
trip. They worshipped, played,
met new friends, and served
those in the community. This
year’s trip should prove to be
impactful both for the youth
and for those we will serve.
Please pray now for this
opportunity.

of live concerts by the top
artists in Christian music,
plus worship and ministry, to
encourage believers and share
the good news with those who
have yet to trust Christ.” The
youth have been in the past
and it is truly a great worship
experience. The youth will be
volunteering this year to help
at different points during the
night. They will help people
sign up to support aid
organizations which share the
love of Jesus with children
and meet their needs. In
return, they will attend for
free! They will also get to meet
the artists and founders of
Winter Jam, NewSong.

evenly among those going.

and Philip in raising funds to adopt
the child that God has chosen for
them, you can make a donation at

and Philip Liles in the subject box.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Fellowship Hall and FLC Use
If your class sponsors Koffee Before Church, please
make sure the Fellowship Hall is cleaned afterward.
Please wash all dishes and put them away (so dishes
are not left in the drainer), put items back in their
places and take the dishcloths home to wash. These
few simple rules should be followed by all groups us-
ing the Fellowship Hall and will leave the kitchen
clean and ready for the next group to use. Also, if
your group uses the Family Life Center or has an
event, please make sure the garbage is taken out
(especially if leftover food has been left in the garbage
cans) and the floor is swept. Your help in keeping our
church clean is appreciated!
