Three O’Clock in the Afternoon
Reception to follow the service
A Father’s Day Devotional
He’s waiting for you. Your Father is standing at the gate of His great house, expectantly hoping, searching
the horizon for a glimpse of you. You’re the one the Father is seeking.
God is a waiting Father, the caring Shepherd in search of His lamb. In His search for you, his legs are
scratched by brambles, his feet are sore, and his eyes are burning. He scales the cliffs and travels across vast
fields. He looks in the caves, and he cups his hands to his mouth and calls into the canyon.
And the name He calls is yours . . . .
The message is simple: The Father gave up His only Begotten Son in order to find all His sons and
daughters. His only desire is to bring His children home. He’s listening for your response. “Will you come home
today?” He says. “I am waiting for you to come home. What God wants most from you is that you come home to
Him.”
--adapted for Father’s Day from And the Angels were silent by Max Lucado
A Note from Bill and Carolyn
It has been a delight to be your Interim Pastor. We have renewed old relationships and
we have made new friends. Thank you for once again letting us be a part of your lives.
We’ve enjoyed every minute. Our prayers are with you, with Bill and Sue as they lead
Westhampton Baptist Church into a new day. God bless your every ministry and mission.
Westhampton Baptist Church is excited to announce the calling of our new
pastor, Rev. William J. Duganne, and his wife, Susan, to our church family
beginning June 1st.
Pastor “Bill” holds a Bachelor’s of Ministry from
Andersonville Baptist Seminary and received his MDIV from the School of
Theology at Virginia Union University. He has held positions as Youth Pastor
and Senior Pastor in churches in Virginia from 1997 to 2010. After a three
year sabbatical, he is refreshed and ready to take on a new ministry with Westhampton Baptist Church! Bill has
been among us for some time now, having taught bible studies and led youth Sunday School on a volunteer basis,
and since September has been employed as our Youth Pastor. Having filled the pulpit for Pastor Hardison on
several occasions, he has proven to be an inspirational preacher and has won the hearts of our church family.
Please be in prayer for Bill and Sue and Westhampton as they begin their ministry here.
Mission Moment
Thanks to everyone who prepared food, donated money, or helped serve breakfast to the homeless at the Oregon
Hill Baptist Center.
Thanks also to those who donated money to help buy DVDs and cases for Camp Alkulana. We were able to buy
200 of each.
Our summer assignment is to buy school supplies, new socks, and underwear for children in Kindergarten through
high school for the South Richmond Baptist Center. Please see the list on the hallway table for needed school
supplies. Place all items in the box in the hallway.
Please continue to buy items for the food closet. Needed items include: powdered milk (in single pouches), soups,
canned meat, canned fruit, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, mac & cheese, spaghetti, and spaghetti sauce.
The mission involvement of WBC is even more important now since the RBA has decreased in size. As always,
thank you for your continued support of our mission projects.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon
You are cordially invited to attend a luncheon following the morning worship service on Sunday, June
9th
, to honor of our wonderful church staff. This will also be an opportunity to thank Dr. Hardison for
his love and care for our fellowship while serving as our Interim Pastor over the last few years. Please
feel free to bring a card or note to the staff to place in their gift baskets. Words do not adequately
express how grateful we are to these dedicated individuals for their service to Westhampton Baptist
Church. Thank you,
Susan and Johnny Butler
Teresa Crawley-Brooks
Rev. William Duganne
Darryl Emerson
Dr. William Hardison
Carol Turner
Please RSVP by June 3rd if you will be able to join us.
Don Rickerson - Webb Institute
Heather Cox - VCU - BA in Exercise Science
We wish you the best as you begin the next stage of your life.

Sunday School Update
April was a good month for Sunday school as we hit the 200 mark for the second time
since October, 2012. We actually went 3 over - 203 were in class for the month of
April. Congratulations to our teachers who keep the lessons interesting and bring
"learners" back each week. If you haven't seen the "High Attendance" banner, it's
because the Fellowship class has won it repeatedly with 83% in class edging out the
Young Men's class which attained 80%.
As one of Rev. Duganne's biggest fans, I'm truly looking forward to growth in Church
as well as Sunday School. The sermon on Sunday, May 19th, was truly Bible based in
the Baptist tradition. Clearly, you will want to be present when Bill starts his tenure
on June 2, 2013. We are pleased and excited to start on a new and challenging path
with this high energy leader. Please take a minute to speak with his lovely wife, Sue,
next time you see her.
"Lunch on the Linoleum" aka "Dinner on the Grounds" went extremely well due to the
support of the youth and members who worked all morning to make it a
success. THANK YOU all for your home cooked desserts and dishes, dedication,
muscles and help on a rainy Sunday. The weather did not dampen our spirits which
seem to be in high swing!!!
During the summer months, I realize some of you will be on vacation and attendance
may drop. We will miss you and know your prayers will be with Westhampton
Baptist Church going into a future with excellent potential.
Linda Eades, Sunday School Director
The Library is always open and we have numerous subjects to explore. Please take
advantage of free literature in hard cover and paperbacks lining our shelves or numer-
ous magazines. Moses Rivers has complemented our selection on several occasions
and we appreciate his input. Now that summer is finally here and TV is in re-run
mode, reading is an excellent way to spend your time. This would preferably be at the
river, beach or a cool mountain retreat.
Our Book Club met in May and discussed Proof of Heaven a Neurosurgeon's
Journey into the Afterlife written by Eben Alexander, M.D. Jenny Van Volkom
suggested the differences in books about heaven could possibly be explained by the
vastness of the universe and the fact that each life is different so it makes since that
each heaven experience would possibly be different. Susan Butler told us Doctor
Alexander was quoted in a news interview that everyone would go to heaven which is
reassuring in my opinion. Think of the earth as a pinpoint in the universe to visualize
how potentially large God’s heaven is.
We meet ever other month for Book Club and welcome new members. Our next
meeting will be the last Sunday in July and since we have read several books on
heaven and the afterlife, we are looking for something amusing or light hearted. Let
Barbara Richards or me know if you have read a book you feel our club would
enjoy. Again, thanks for all your donations, suggestions and especially your
complements.

  • 2. A Father’s Day Devotional He’s waiting for you. Your Father is standing at the gate of His great house, expectantly hoping, searching the horizon for a glimpse of you. You’re the one the Father is seeking. God is a waiting Father, the caring Shepherd in search of His lamb. In His search for you, his legs are scratched by brambles, his feet are sore, and his eyes are burning. He scales the cliffs and travels across vast fields. He looks in the caves, and he cups his hands to his mouth and calls into the canyon. And the name He calls is yours . . . . The message is simple: The Father gave up His only Begotten Son in order to find all His sons and daughters. His only desire is to bring His children home. He’s listening for your response. “Will you come home today?” He says. “I am waiting for you to come home. What God wants most from you is that you come home to Him.” --adapted for Father’s Day from And the Angels were silent by Max Lucado A Note from Bill and Carolyn It has been a delight to be your Interim Pastor. We have renewed old relationships and we have made new friends. Thank you for once again letting us be a part of your lives. We’ve enjoyed every minute. Our prayers are with you, with Bill and Sue as they lead Westhampton Baptist Church into a new day. God bless your every ministry and mission. Westhampton Baptist Church is excited to announce the calling of our new pastor, Rev. William J. Duganne, and his wife, Susan, to our church family beginning June 1st. Pastor “Bill” holds a Bachelor’s of Ministry from Andersonville Baptist Seminary and received his MDIV from the School of Theology at Virginia Union University. He has held positions as Youth Pastor and Senior Pastor in churches in Virginia from 1997 to 2010. After a three year sabbatical, he is refreshed and ready to take on a new ministry with Westhampton Baptist Church! Bill has been among us for some time now, having taught bible studies and led youth Sunday School on a volunteer basis, and since September has been employed as our Youth Pastor. Having filled the pulpit for Pastor Hardison on several occasions, he has proven to be an inspirational preacher and has won the hearts of our church family. Please be in prayer for Bill and Sue and Westhampton as they begin their ministry here.
  • 3. Mission Moment Thanks to everyone who prepared food, donated money, or helped serve breakfast to the homeless at the Oregon Hill Baptist Center. Thanks also to those who donated money to help buy DVDs and cases for Camp Alkulana. We were able to buy 200 of each. Our summer assignment is to buy school supplies, new socks, and underwear for children in Kindergarten through high school for the South Richmond Baptist Center. Please see the list on the hallway table for needed school supplies. Place all items in the box in the hallway. Please continue to buy items for the food closet. Needed items include: powdered milk (in single pouches), soups, canned meat, canned fruit, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, mac & cheese, spaghetti, and spaghetti sauce. The mission involvement of WBC is even more important now since the RBA has decreased in size. As always, thank you for your continued support of our mission projects. Staff Appreciation Luncheon You are cordially invited to attend a luncheon following the morning worship service on Sunday, June 9th , to honor of our wonderful church staff. This will also be an opportunity to thank Dr. Hardison for his love and care for our fellowship while serving as our Interim Pastor over the last few years. Please feel free to bring a card or note to the staff to place in their gift baskets. Words do not adequately express how grateful we are to these dedicated individuals for their service to Westhampton Baptist Church. Thank you, Susan and Johnny Butler Teresa Crawley-Brooks Rev. • 4. The Library Corner of Our Church Sunday School Update April was a good month for Sunday school as we hit the 200 mark for the second time since October, 2012. We actually went 3 over - 203 were in class for the month of April. Congratulations to our teachers who keep the lessons interesting and bring "learners" back each week. If you haven't seen the "High Attendance" banner, it's because the Fellowship class has won it repeatedly with 83% in class edging out the Young Men's class which attained 80%. As one of Rev. Duganne's biggest fans, I'm truly looking forward to growth in Church as well as Sunday School. The sermon on Sunday, May 19th, was truly Bible based in the Baptist tradition. Clearly, you will want to be present when Bill starts his tenure on June 2, 2013. We are pleased and excited to start on a new and challenging path with this high energy leader. Please take a minute to speak with his lovely wife, Sue, next time you see her. "Lunch on the Linoleum" aka "Dinner on the Grounds" went extremely well due to the support of the youth and members who worked all morning to make it a success. THANK YOU all for your home cooked desserts and dishes, dedication, muscles and help on a rainy Sunday. The weather did not dampen our spirits which seem to be in high swing!!! During the summer months, I realize some of you will be on vacation and attendance may drop. We will miss you and know your prayers will be with Westhampton Baptist Church going into a future with excellent potential. Linda Eades, Sunday School Director The Library is always open and we have numerous subjects to explore. Please take advantage of free literature in hard cover and paperbacks lining our shelves or numer- ous magazines. Moses Rivers has complemented our selection on several occasions and we appreciate his input. Now that summer is finally here and TV is in re-run mode, reading is an excellent way to spend your time. This would preferably be at the river, beach or a cool mountain retreat. Our Book Club met in May and discussed Proof of Heaven a Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife written by Eben Alexander, M.D. Jenny Van Volkom suggested the differences in books about heaven could possibly be explained by the vastness of the universe and the fact that each life is different so it makes since that each heaven experience would possibly be different. Susan Butler told us Doctor Alexander was quoted in a news interview that everyone would go to heaven which is reassuring in my opinion. Think of the earth as a pinpoint in the universe to visualize how potentially large God’s heaven is. We meet ever other month for Book Club and welcome new members. Our next meeting will be the last Sunday in July and since we have read several books on heaven and the afterlife, we are looking for something amusing or light hearted. Let Barbara Richards or me know if you have read a book you feel our club would enjoy. Again, thanks for all your donations, suggestions and especially your complements.
