Maratha rule formally began in 1674with the coronation
of Shivaji as the ChhatrapatI. Maratha rule officially
endedin 1818 with the defeat of Peshwa Bajirao II at the
hands of the English East India Company.
The Marathas are responsible for the end of the MUGHAL

The Mughal–Maratha Wars, sometimes referredto as a whole as the Deccan
War, the Maratha War of Independence, or the 27-years war were a set of wars
fought between the MarathA Empire andthe Mughal Empire from1680 to 1707. The
mainleader of Marathas was Sambhaji andRajaramand the mainleader of
mughals was Aurangzeb andJay Singh I.This resultedthe victory of Marathas . After
Marathas CapturedPresent-day states of Maharashtra, MadhyA
Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu.
MARATHA CONQUEST
OF NORTH-WEST
INDIA
The Maratha conquest of Northwest India occurred between 1757 and 1759. It hadlong-
lasting effects upon the future geopoliticsof the Indian subcontinent. The main leader
frommarathas are RaghunathRao and the main leader fromAfghans are Timur Shah
Durrani. This results the victory of Marathas. Marathas successfully capture
northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent, including Punjab and the city
of Peshawar, fromthe Afghans.
The ThirdBattle of Panipat took place on 14 January 1761 at Panipat Haryana State,
India. The battle pitted artillery andcavalry of the Marathas Led by rajaram ii
against the Afghans led by AhmadShah Durrani, also known as AhmadShah
Abdali. Marathas were defeatedwith heavy casualties. There were near 100,000
soldiers deadadding bothsides andthe battle resulted in retreat of Marathas from
Delhi for next ten years.
The First Anglo-Maratha War (1775–1782) was the first of three Anglo-
MaratHa Wars fought between the British EasT India Companyand Maratha
Empire in India. The war began with the Treaty of Surat and ended with
the Treaty of Salbai. The war was fought in between Surat and Pune Kingdom
saw British defeat and restoration of positions of both the parties before the
war.
The Second Anglo-Maratha War (1803–1805) was the second conflict
between the British East India Companyand the Maratha
Empire in India. THE MAINleader from marathas are adulation

empire. And Treaty of Deogaon (1802),Treaty of Surji-
Anjangaon (1803), Treaty of Rajghat (1805).
The ThirdAnglo-Maratha War (1817–1819) was the final anddecisive conflict
between the English East India Company and the Maratha Empire in India. The
war left the Company in control of most of India. It began withan invasion of
Maratha territory by British East IndiaCompany troops. This results Victory of
British empire and Formal endof the Peshwa rule, Shinde, Holkar andBhonsale
subjectedto British suzerainty, Chatrapati (Maratha king) retained under British
suzerainty, Control over India by the British East India Company is established.
