- 7. MARATHA CONQUEST OF NORTH-WEST INDIA The Maratha conquest of Northwest India occurred between 1757 and 1759. It hadlong- lasting effects upon the future geopoliticsof the Indian subcontinent. The main leader frommarathas are RaghunathRao and the main leader fromAfghans are Timur Shah Durrani. This results the victory of Marathas. Marathas successfully capture northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent, including Punjab and the city of Peshawar, fromthe Afghans.
- 8. The ThirdBattle of Panipat took place on 14 January 1761 at Panipat Haryana State, India. The battle pitted artillery andcavalry of the Marathas Led by rajaram ii against the Afghans led by AhmadShah Durrani, also known as AhmadShah Abdali. Marathas were defeatedwith heavy casualties. There were near 100,000 soldiers deadadding bothsides andthe battle resulted in retreat of Marathas from Delhi for next ten years.

The war began with the Treaty of Surat and ended with the Treaty of Salbai. The war was fought in between Surat and Pune Kingdom saw British defeat and restoration of positions of both the parties before the war.
