7. Visayas is one of the Principal
geographical island along with Luzon
and Mindanao.

8. In Visayas resides a minority
ethnic group in small areas of
Panay and Negros known as
Negritos.

9. They are called in different
names:

BATAK  PALAWAN
MAMANWA  MINDANAO
ATI  PANAY
NEGRITOS  NEGROS

10. Negritos are forced to withdraw into
the mountains, Though their culture
and music have almost come to
extinction, they are still able to
preserve some of their indigenous
practices. Most of their music is
improvised.

1. PASIYAK Consist of a tube with a pipe
Played by placing water in the tube and blowing the pipe
Whistling sound is produced by the presence of water in the tube.
Common in the island of Panay
2. TULALI  Flute about the size of Sahunay having 6 holes for the fingers but without
mouthpiece.
 Originated from Igbaras, IloIlo
3. LITGUIT  Violin consisting of a whole bamboo cut about 45 cm long w/ 2 strings
 Has a hole as a resonator
 Common among the Ati (Negritos) of Capiz
4. BUKTOT  Guitar made of wood w/ two strings and a coconut shell or gourd as
resonator
 Common among visayans
5. LANTOY  Visayan version of Clarinet
 Made of bamboo with 4 or 6 for the fingers.
