LATHE MACHINE
LIMITATIONS
 The limitations on the lathe are the size
of the chuck and length of the bed. Most
lathes can fit stock up to 8 inches in
diameter and up to 42 inches in length.
 Regardless of the material or stock used,
only radially symmetrical parts can be
produced
 For parts with multiple radii, a CAD
drawing may be required to give the
operator a guide on the curve of the
radius change.
ADVANCEMENT
 it is needed to use CNC lathe machine to
get more accurate dimensions and
regular shape.
 V-Belt driven for glass work
LATHE MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
1. Different operation can be carried out
2. Used in small scale industry.
3. Semi skilled or some time unskilled
operator required.
DISADVANTAGES
1. The length of workpiece is finite.
2. If automation is not done manually work
is done therefore accuracy is less.
3. Speed Is less compared to other
machines.
DRILLING MACHINE
LIMITATIONS
1. Insufficient formation strength to
withstand mechanical stress without
collapse.
2. Noncontinuous underbalanced
conditions.
3. Wells that contain targets with significant
pressure or lithology variations
throughout.
ADVACEMENT
1. It is needed to use CNC drilling for more
accurate dimension and regular shape.
2. laser technology in the drilling; which is a
newer technology that is already at hand,
has the potential of displacing
techniques from operation.
DRILLING MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
1. reducing the surface “footprint” of drilling
operation.
2. drilling smaller holes and generating less
waste.
3. creating less noise
4. avoiding sensitive ecosystems
DISADVANTAGES
1. The CMM used are very costly.
2. The CMM are less portable.
3. If software cracks down if cnc m/c used
then it is difficult to restart the entire
system.
4. It need to construct some feature on its
own,as some parts are unrechble by the
probe.
BORING MACHINE
LIMITATION
1. Tolerance can not be maintained, it is
maintain up to 0.002 mm.
2. Machines are costlier.
ADVANCEMENT
1. It is used to make underground tunnel.
2. Micro tunnel technology is used for small
purpose up to 4 ft.
BORING MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
1. Used in earth moving machineries.
2. Used in making a tunnel.
DISADVANTAGES
1. In making tunnel sometime water flow is
much higher.
2. Jig boring machines are costlier.
MILLING MACHINE
LIMITATION
1. Critical size build up is also a big issue in
this type of mill.
ADVANCEMENT
1. It is needed to use CNC for more
accurate operation.
2. A plunge cutter, for example, rough-cuts
larger dies and molds up to four times
faster than common shoulder mills or
endmills.
MILLING MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
1. The metal is removed at a faster rate as
the cutter has got multiple cutting edges
and rotates at a higher speed.
2. It is possible to perform machining by
mounting more than one cutter at a time.
3. It is very useful since various cutters and
precise tools can be machined.
DISADVANTAGES
1. The cost of the milling machine is high.
2. As milling cutters cost high, the
investment for procuring tools is more.
3. The production cost will increase if we
carry out the operations performed in
a shaper or a drilling machine with a
milling machine.
PLANER MACHINE
LIMITATION
 On machine double point cutting tool
can not be mounted.
ADVANCEMENT
 82mm reversible planer knives
from 82mm Planer blades These blades
can fit in planer.
 Modern planers are used by smaller tool
and die shops within larger production
facilitate to maintain large stamping dies.
PLANER MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
1. Planing flat horizontal, vertical and
curved surfaces.
2. Planing at an angle
and machining dovetails.
3. Planing slots and grooves.
4. the open-side variety has a vertical
support on only one side, allowing the
workpiece to extend beyond the bed.
DISADVANTAGES
 Only single point cutting tool is used.
SHAPER MACHINE
LIMITATION
 Groove can not be done.
 Key way is not made
 Threads can not be obtained.
ADVANCEMENT
 principle of the “Advanced Shaping
machine” is used in the “Existing shaping
machine” then there is a increasing stroke
length and decreasing stroke length.
 “Advanced shaping machine”. In this
shaping machine minimum stroke length
is 51.42mm and maximum stroke length
is 170mm.
SHAPER MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
 It provide economical and simple tooling.
 It is easy to setup can be used for
angular surface.
DISADVANTAGES
 Shaper is limited in holding close
tolerance, because of long unsupported
overhang of the ram at the end of the
each stroke.
 Due to its single point tooling it is not
suited for production work.
 It having only one tool for cutting the
workpiece.
SLOTTER MACHINE
LIMITATION
 One tool is used at a time
ADVANCEMENT
 Instead of hydraulic driven v belt driven is
used so speed will be received is more.
SLOTTER MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
 Cutting of internal grooves and keys.
 Cutting of internal gears.
 Cutting of recesses.
DISADVANTAGES
 2 tool is not used.
 Heavy workpiece is not made, hence it is
light weighted machine.
BROACHING MACHINE
LIMITATION
 Cutting speed cannot be high.
 Only through holes and surfaces can be
machined.
ADVANCEMENT
 A major advancement is the
development of
electromechanical broaching machines. ...
The use of these machines for production
of helical internal gears for automotive
use has almost completely replaced gear
shaping.
BROACHING MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
 Rate of production is very high with
properly applied broaches.
 Little skill is required to perform a
broaching operation.
 High accuracy and high class of surface
finish is possible
DISADVANTAGES
 High tool cost.
 Very large work pieces cannot be
broached.
 Broaching cannot be used for removal of
large amount of stock.
GRINDING MACHINE
LIMITATION
 It’s use on work having more than one
diameter or on curved part is limited.
 Grinding tubes are concentric so
workpiece did not get desired output.
ADVANCEMENT
 CNC is used for the faster production and
higher accuracy.
 Pillar drill machine is there, the table on
which workpiece laid down it can be
move upward and downward.
GRINDING MACHINE
ADVANTAGES
 It provides good finish to an object.
 It is used in many industrial applications.
 Surface grinder machines efficiently
functions for different metals as well as
plastics. It is also used in power
generation.
DISADVANTAGES
 Special machines are required that can
do other type of work.
 The work must be round – no flats, such
as keyways can be present.
 In grinding tubes there is no gurantee
that the outer diameter and inner
diameter are concentric.

  • 16. SLOTTER MACHINE ADVANTAGES  Cutting of internal grooves and keys.  Cutting of internal gears.  Cutting of recesses. DISADVANTAGES  2 tool is not used.  Heavy workpiece is not made, hence it is light weighted machine.
  • 17. BROACHING MACHINE LIMITATION  Cutting speed cannot be high.  Only through holes and surfaces can be machined. ADVANCEMENT  A major advancement is the development of electromechanical broaching machines. ... The use of these machines for production of helical internal gears for automotive use has almost completely replaced gear shaping.
  • 18. BROACHING MACHINE ADVANTAGES  Rate of production is very high with properly applied broaches.  Little skill is required to perform a broaching operation.  High accuracy and high class of surface finish is possible DISADVANTAGES  High tool cost.  Very large work pieces cannot be broached.  Broaching cannot be used for removal of large amount of stock.
  • 19. GRINDING MACHINE LIMITATION  It’s use on work having more than one diameter or on curved part is limited.  Grinding tubes are concentric so workpiece did not get desired output. ADVANCEMENT  CNC is used for the faster production and higher accuracy.  Pillar drill machine is there, the table on which workpiece laid down it can be move upward and downward.
  • 20. GRINDING MACHINE ADVANTAGES  It provides good finish to an object.  It is used in many industrial applications.  Surface grinder machines efficiently functions for different metals as well as plastics. It is also used in power generation. DISADVANTAGES  Special machines are required that can do other type of work.  The work must be round – no flats, such as keyways can be present.  In grinding tubes there is no gurantee that the outer diameter and inner diameter are concentric.
