Born November 23, 1876, Cádiz, Spain
Died November 14, 1946, Alta Gracia, Argentina
1907 moved to Paris met Debussy composed first piano piece
1914 returned to Madrid wrote music for Ballet: El Amor Brujo which was
remarkable for its distillation of Andalusian folk music.
Falla retired to Granada, 1922 he set up the Cante Jondo festival and
composed a Puppet Opera
Falla’s style was then neoclassical more than romantic, still spanish
In 1926 he wrote little, living first in Mallorca, 1939 moved to Argentina

3. DE FALLA’S INFLUENCE ON
LORCA
In 1919 he became friends with Federigo Garcia Lorca
They work on a play called Butterflies Evil Spell
In 1922 he lectures on deep song with Lorca they organize a festival of
Cante Jondo
Worked on a Puppet Opera together called The Girl Who Waters The Basil
Plant
Lorca and Falla travelled through the villages of Andalusia looking out for
genuine traditional folk songs.
After friendship with De Falla from his influence Lorca went on to arrange
versions of the folk songs they found together and became a lyricist.
