Mantas Zimnickas presented on open data in Lithuania at OpenCon 2016. He discussed what open means according to opendefinition.org, defined open data, and summarized the status of open data initiatives in Lithuania. Zimnickas' site atviriduomenys.lt aims to provide open data to users by collecting data from providers and using it in projects. The talk covered challenges of working with different data formats and proposed approaches to standardizing and automating data extraction and transformation. Zimnickas concluded by sharing code for several of his open data projects.

Access to scientific information accelerates research, discovery and economic development. For more than a decade libraries take part in the open access movement to develop an environment which provides access to scientific information. Open access stakeholders and experts are working together to achieve these aims. The presentation will elaborate on the infrastructure of open access which bridges the gap between academia and society by sharing research findings in new ways.
OpenAIRE is an initiative by the European Commission for an Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe to support open scholarly communication, Open Science and access to the research output of the European funded projects. Synopsis:
D3.js is a Javascript library primarily used to create interactive data visualizations in the browser. Despite its growing popularity and warm community, getting started with D3 can be tricky. This talk covers the basics of D3 and sheds light on some of its main conceptual hurdles. It concludes by discussing some applications of D3 to big data.

3O - is the new popular abbreviation in the European Research Area. Pushed forward by Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation it stands for "Open Science, Open Innovation, Open to the World". What is the ideology behind this? Maybe it is just a nicely coined catchy expression? What is the role of Open Science for our future? How far have we gone towards this vision?
The presentation was given at the SOCM'16 workshop at the WWW16 conference. It corresponds to the research study titled "Observlets: Empowering Analytical Observations on Web Observatory".
The best way to publish and share research data is with a research data repository. A repository is an online database that allows research data to be preserved across time and helps others find it.
OPEN KNOWLEDGE PLATFORM USE-CASES - TugaIT 2018Pedro Sousa
Many of Open Knowledge International’s projects are technical in nature. Its most prominent project, CKAN, is used by many of the world’s governments to host open catalogues of data that their countries possess.
CKAN is a tool for making open data websites. (Think of a content management system like WordPress – but for data, instead of pages and blog posts.) It helps you manage and publish collections of data. It is used by national and local governments, research institutions, and other organizations who collect a lot of data.
In this talk I’ll go over some use-cases of Open Knowledge Platform implementations by the Portuguese Government, the architectural features, the difficulties and different approaches to solve them.
