Stampede
A stampede is an act of mass
impulse among herd animals or
a crowd of people in which the
herd (or crowd) collectively
begins running with no clear
direction or purpose.
A stampede is possible anywhere.
The larger the human crowd gets,
the more probable it becomes.
There have been stampedes in
history, which have killed
thousands of people. Most of the
time innocent people are hurt or
killed in the stampedes and it is
very hard (if not impossible) to
find out the guilty.
Deaths from human stampedes occur primarily
from compressive asphyxiation, not trampling.
This is referred to as crowd crush. The
compressive force occurs from both horizontal
pushing and vertical stacking.
In other words, the elements provide a model
for understanding the causes of crowd
disasters, means of prevention, and possible
mitigation of an ongoing crowd incident.

Safety Precaution # 2
 Do not take kids or the elderly
in any such area/event
 In my opinion, taking children or
an elderly to any event or place
where a stampede is possible is
risking their well-being. So please
refrain from that.
 Stampede

with you

use a backpack instead of a

about your possessions

run for your life. Do not care
about any of your possessions.
They are not dearer than yours or

anything, do not stop to pick it

broke out on a bridge near the

they jumped from the bridge.

Officials said the stampede
may have been sparked by a
rumour that the bridge was
about to collapse
 Local devotee Atul

crush, told BBC Hindi there
had been a couple of thousand
people on the bridge.
He heard screams, and people
began rushing to get off the bridge.
