MANM196 Understanding The Events Industry
Answers:
Introduction
Winter Wonderland event is a six-week event in London straight from 19th November to
3rd January for the purpose to celebrate the festive session of the Christmand and the new
year. The event offers more attractive events, drinks, foods, and entertainment to people
for their enjoyment. People have to book their tickets in advance to keep them safe and
follow three basic steps such as selecting a favourable date between 19the November 2021
to 3rd January 2022 between 10 am to 10 pm. In addition during the off-peak period, the
entry is free and cost €5 or 7.50 at the time peak time. After entering the fair event one can
stay as long as they want and there are lots of exciting offers as well. Again, visitors can
make their visit memorable by adding shows, rides and games. The purpose of the
assessment is to describe the three aspects of the events such as sustainability, crown
management, and event design. All the segments have three stages such as practical
assessment, observation, and reflections that will help to develop a conclusion for better
planning of the event.
Discussion:
Sustainability In Events
Expectations
The expectation will discuss what is expected from the event. It is always expected
sustainability maintain in the events so that environmental and cultural balance and be
assured. It is expected that single plastic waste can be minimized, sufficient use of recycling
bins, sustainable source of electricity, and easy access to public transport. It will ensure that
the event planning and sustainability can be achieved that will ensure the success of the
Winter Wonderland event. It is described as below;
Single-use of plastic: In the event, it was expected that the public will use less plastic and
use the recycle bins to dispose of their waste. However, it was seen that in the event plastic
water bottles were sold at a high price and people are thronging it all over the field. It is
needed to encourage people to carry a water bottle to reduce the plastic waste however, in
the event there were no sufficient water fillers of the tap that is the biggest issue for the
visitors. For that, they cannot carry water bottles and have to purchase again and again that
create plastic waste (Holmes et al. 2015).
Generating Power: In the event, there were various lighting, sound and energy
consumption. However, there was no sustainability in the energy consumption. The stalls,
slides and the event itself consume many lighting and energy but there was no sustainable
energy source (Skeete et al. 2020). It needs to have sufficient use of recycled waste as a
source of energy to save electricity. The rubbish collector needs to travel all over the event
to collect the waste that helps to make the place clean and provide full enjoyment to the
visitors (Buathong, and Lai 2017).
Public Transport: For the purpose to reach the event it was expected to have easy access to
public transport by road. However, the availability of the bus and the metro was not
sufficient especially during peak hours. There was also an issue with the parking at the
event. The public transport was expected increase by the management with the
consultation of govermnet that helps the visitor to reach their destination in time with
safety. It also helps to attract visitors from distant places in case sufficient public transport
is available. In addition, the extra parking space needs to arrange specially for physically
challenged people (TRAIL, and McCullough 2018).
Observations From Winter Wonderland - The Photo Analysis
Figure 1: use of Lights in events
Figure 2: Use of Bins in event
From the observation, it can be analysed that there are lots of lights and speakers used
throughout the events to make the event successful and attractive for the visitors (Müller et
al. 2021). All stalls and the rides in the events consumes lots of lights and energy to continue
their operation and provide service to customers. However, in the events, there is observed
the lack of the planning of Sustainable Development and energy source. In addition, there
are no separate recycle bins for waste such as for paper and plastics and the number of
dustbins is not sufficient. For that visitor's face, lots of issues and the management needs to
take care of sustainability as well (Kersuli?, Peri?, and Wise 2020).
Reflection
I was suppressed that there was so little number of the water refilling tabs. People have to
waste in a long queue to fill their bottles or less have to buy that increase the plastic
pollution. In addition, people also cannot able to reach on time as per the non-availability of
the trams and bus which is relay needs to manage by the event planners. In addition, one
thing I liked is that the staff members are touring continuously so that they can collect the
bins and make them clean. The energy consumption and development also need to look
after by the management that will help them to increase the value of the event and makes it
more sustainable.
Expectations
Crowd Management
Crowd management is essential in every event planning. In addition, in the time of e
pandemic, it is necessary to follow the rules of the social distancing, and others to keep
everyone safe in the event. Apart from that, it was expected that the miking and the
monitoring process will be strong in the Winter Wonderland event to make people aware
(Martella, Li, Conrado, and Vermeeren 2017). For that two aspects is very important such
as booking tickets as per capacity and providing tight security.
Book tickets as per capacity: It was expected that for the purpose of crowd management the
event planner will book the slot of tickets with effective planning. In addition, the event was
open from 10 am to 10 pm and it is long hours. For the purpose to avoid overcrowd
especially at the time of COVID they need to take 50% capacity of the booking to maintain
the distance and manage the crowd. It is also necessary to spread awareness among the
visitors with miking and wearing mask needs to be mandatory (Franke, Lukowicz, and
Blanke 2015). Even all stalls and rides service providers need to encourage to follow the
rules that help to make the event successful and run all operations smoothly. For crowd
management, it is required to keep track of how many people are booking slots and if it
exceeds the capacity then they need to stop taking bookings as soon as possible to manage
the crowd (Sharma et al. 2018).
Arrange security: In the planning of the crowd management, it was expected that there
were tight security all over the event. It is a matter of protection and managing the crowd
for the monitoring is necessary (Jiang et al. 2019). The security will tour the ground
throughout the time and in case any unwanted activity is noticed take immediate action.
They also arrange some reporting office in the event so people can report immediately if
they face some trouble or find some unusual. The number of contacting the security in the
event is expected to display all over the event so that they can contact them quickly.
However, it was noticed that the security management not working effectively and people
also complain that they do not responses their call at the time of emergencies (Wijermans et
al. 2016).
Observations From Winter Wonderland - The Photo Analysis
Figure 3: Crowd in event
From the observation, it can be analysed that crowd management is necessary for the
purpose to ensure effective planning and making the event successful. From image 3 it can
be seen there are lots of crowds in the event and people are having a good time. There are
lots of stalls and rides in the Winter Wonderland event that increase the fun. However,
compared to the crowd the security is not so strict at the even (Al-Shaery et al. 2020)t.
People are not checked properly before entering that may increase the risk. In addition, it
also observed that at the time of emergencies people are looking for some helps they are
not able to contact them because the helpline number is kept busy continuously or not
answered. This issue needs to address by the event planner as it is a matter of safety and to
avoid any unwanted situation that can ruin the enjoyment of the Winter Wonderland event.
Reflection
I can expect that in the event the crowd management plays a big role and it is important in
the time of pandemic to control the crowd. I saw that they are miking frequently and
encouraging to follow the rules of a pandemic to the visitors. In addition, I realise that in
case stalls and rides refuse to provide ser ice who after not wearing a mask will be a better
option to manage the crowd and handle the situation. However, I realise that number of
security guards was less compared to the crowd. At the entry point, they are not checking
properly and it can be risky. The number of helping points was also not sufficient and they
need to improve it to have suitable planning and provide helps on time to run their
operation smoothly and continue the event as per their planning.
Event Design And Theme
Expectations
The Theme of the Withe Wonderland event party was expected to be attractive and
mesmerising. It was expected that it will provide a different level of enjoyment to the
visitors that helps to increase the popularity of the events. In addition, it was expected that
they will be based on winter and something magical that will enhance visitors experience.
The time of holidays it will be organized so in theme the Christmas and new years can be
include. It will help them to enjoy their holidays to the fullest (Tafesse 2016). Further, to
attract the children to the events it was expected that some fictitious characters, cartoon
characters, superheroes and Disney characters, can be included in the theme that will
increase the popularity and crass among Childers and they can also enjoy their visits. With
rides for adults, some children ride needs to be there so that despite all ages and gender
everyone can enjoy their time. In the case of design, it is expected that all the decoration
needs to be mesmerising and unique (Duong 2018). It needs to be creative as well which
will have balance with the winter theme. With magical blue lights and false snow, the whole
decoration is to expected be done that will give a different experience. Along with that,
some programs can be organized such as singing, dancing for the enjoyment of the visitors
that will provide them a good time and enhance the value of the Winter Wonderland event
(Erlandia 2016). The success of the event is more or less dependent on how efficiently the
management organises and design the events each day. The decoration, the distribution of
programs needs to be up to the mark that will attract visitors. The beautiful design and
theme is the key point of the event that will increase the sales of the tickets and make the
event a huge success for the event planner (Leppisaari 2016).
Observations From Winter Wonderland - The Photo Analysis
Figure 4: Decoration in the event
Figure 5: Rides in event
From the observation, it can be seen that the decoration and the design are good but not up
to the mark. They can improve their planning and improvise it. From image 4 it can be seen
that the blue lighting was designed by keeping in mind the winter theme and the magical
events. However, to be more innovative in this aspect they can arrange false snow there that
also increase visitors experience (Raftery et al. 2015). One thing also noticed that there was
also no arrangements to attract the attention of the childer that make them bore. Thye can
arrange some superman and cartoons in theme as well that will entertain children who
come to visit with their parents. In addition, the offers provided in the Winter Wonderland
also was attractive. Image 5 indicates that all kinds of rides were available for different age
groups and people were having fun.
Reflection
I realise that to have a successful event it is necessary to have an attractive design, and
basically, it is the key to success. Along with the sustainability and the cored management in
the Winter Wonderland event, I saw they follow the winter theme to some extend and
decorate all over with the blue lights. The whole arrange net was done in the open air that
was also a plus point of the design and decoration. In addition, I realise that one thing was
really missing and disappointing is that they were no arrangements for entertainment for
the children. In decorating, designing and theme selection a no one thinks about them. This
makes them bore and also may impact in the number of visitors. Thye must arrange some
entertainment for them so that parents can enjoy their time and children can enjoy their
kith have good time will ensure the success of the events.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it can be analyzed that to organize a successful event along with
sustainability planning, crowd management, and effective theme selection is also required.
Along all together the success of an event is determined. It is always expected sustainability
maintain in the events so that environmental and cultural balance and be assured. Plastic
use can be reduced and provide easy public transportation. Crowd management is essential
in every event planning. In addition, in the time of e pandemic, it is necessary to follow the
rules of the social distancing, and others to keep everyone safe in the event. For the security
and book ticket as per capacity is necessary. The theme of the Withe Wonderland them the
party was expected to be attractive and mesmerising. The winter-based theme and the
arrangement for children need to be there.

MANM196 Understanding The Events Industry.docx

  • 1. MANM196 Understanding The Events Industry Answers: Introduction Winter Wonderland event is a six-week event in London straight from 19th November to 3rd January for the purpose to celebrate the festive session of the Christmand and the new year. The event offers more attractive events, drinks, foods, and entertainment to people for their enjoyment. People have to book their tickets in advance to keep them safe and follow three basic steps such as selecting a favourable date between 19the November 2021 to 3rd January 2022 between 10 am to 10 pm. In addition during the off-peak period, the entry is free and cost €5 or 7.50 at the time peak time. After entering the fair event one can stay as long as they want and there are lots of exciting offers as well. Again, visitors can make their visit memorable by adding shows, rides and games. The purpose of the assessment is to describe the three aspects of the events such as sustainability, crown management, and event design. All the segments have three stages such as practical assessment, observation, and reflections that will help to develop a conclusion for better planning of the event. Discussion: Sustainability In Events Expectations The expectation will discuss what is expected from the event. It is always expected sustainability maintain in the events so that environmental and cultural balance and be assured. It is expected that single plastic waste can be minimized, sufficient use of recycling bins, sustainable source of electricity, and easy access to public transport. It will ensure that the event planning and sustainability can be achieved that will ensure the success of the Winter Wonderland event. It is described as below; Single-use of plastic: In the event, it was expected that the public will use less plastic and use the recycle bins to dispose of their waste. However, it was seen that in the event plastic water bottles were sold at a high price and people are thronging it all over the field. It is needed to encourage people to carry a water bottle to reduce the plastic waste however, in the event there were no sufficient water fillers of the tap that is the biggest issue for the
  • 2. visitors. For that, they cannot carry water bottles and have to purchase again and again that create plastic waste (Holmes et al. 2015). Generating Power: In the event, there were various lighting, sound and energy consumption. However, there was no sustainability in the energy consumption. The stalls, slides and the event itself consume many lighting and energy but there was no sustainable energy source (Skeete et al. 2020). It needs to have sufficient use of recycled waste as a source of energy to save electricity. The rubbish collector needs to travel all over the event to collect the waste that helps to make the place clean and provide full enjoyment to the visitors (Buathong, and Lai 2017). Public Transport: For the purpose to reach the event it was expected to have easy access to public transport by road. However, the availability of the bus and the metro was not sufficient especially during peak hours. There was also an issue with the parking at the event. The public transport was expected increase by the management with the consultation of govermnet that helps the visitor to reach their destination in time with safety. It also helps to attract visitors from distant places in case sufficient public transport is available. In addition, the extra parking space needs to arrange specially for physically challenged people (TRAIL, and McCullough 2018). Observations From Winter Wonderland - The Photo Analysis Figure 1: use of Lights in events Figure 2: Use of Bins in event From the observation, it can be analysed that there are lots of lights and speakers used throughout the events to make the event successful and attractive for the visitors (Müller et al. 2021). All stalls and the rides in the events consumes lots of lights and energy to continue their operation and provide service to customers. However, in the events, there is observed the lack of the planning of Sustainable Development and energy source. In addition, there are no separate recycle bins for waste such as for paper and plastics and the number of dustbins is not sufficient. For that visitor's face, lots of issues and the management needs to take care of sustainability as well (Kersuli?, Peri?, and Wise 2020). Reflection
  • 3. I was suppressed that there was so little number of the water refilling tabs. People have to waste in a long queue to fill their bottles or less have to buy that increase the plastic pollution. In addition, people also cannot able to reach on time as per the non-availability of the trams and bus which is relay needs to manage by the event planners. In addition, one thing I liked is that the staff members are touring continuously so that they can collect the bins and make them clean. The energy consumption and development also need to look after by the management that will help them to increase the value of the event and makes it more sustainable. Expectations Crowd Management Crowd management is essential in every event planning. In addition, in the time of e pandemic, it is necessary to follow the rules of the social distancing, and others to keep everyone safe in the event. Apart from that, it was expected that the miking and the monitoring process will be strong in the Winter Wonderland event to make people aware (Martella, Li, Conrado, and Vermeeren 2017). For that two aspects is very important such as booking tickets as per capacity and providing tight security. Book tickets as per capacity: It was expected that for the purpose of crowd management the event planner will book the slot of tickets with effective planning. In addition, the event was open from 10 am to 10 pm and it is long hours. For the purpose to avoid overcrowd especially at the time of COVID they need to take 50% capacity of the booking to maintain the distance and manage the crowd. It is also necessary to spread awareness among the visitors with miking and wearing mask needs to be mandatory (Franke, Lukowicz, and Blanke 2015). Even all stalls and rides service providers need to encourage to follow the rules that help to make the event successful and run all operations smoothly. For crowd management, it is required to keep track of how many people are booking slots and if it exceeds the capacity then they need to stop taking bookings as soon as possible to manage the crowd (Sharma et al. 2018). Arrange security: In the planning of the crowd management, it was expected that there were tight security all over the event. It is a matter of protection and managing the crowd for the monitoring is necessary (Jiang et al. 2019). The security will tour the ground throughout the time and in case any unwanted activity is noticed take immediate action. They also arrange some reporting office in the event so people can report immediately if they face some trouble or find some unusual. The number of contacting the security in the event is expected to display all over the event so that they can contact them quickly. However, it was noticed that the security management not working effectively and people also complain that they do not responses their call at the time of emergencies (Wijermans et al. 2016). Observations From Winter Wonderland - The Photo Analysis
  • 4. Figure 3: Crowd in event From the observation, it can be analysed that crowd management is necessary for the purpose to ensure effective planning and making the event successful. From image 3 it can be seen there are lots of crowds in the event and people are having a good time. There are lots of stalls and rides in the Winter Wonderland event that increase the fun. However, compared to the crowd the security is not so strict at the even (Al-Shaery et al. 2020)t. People are not checked properly before entering that may increase the risk. In addition, it also observed that at the time of emergencies people are looking for some helps they are not able to contact them because the helpline number is kept busy continuously or not answered. This issue needs to address by the event planner as it is a matter of safety and to avoid any unwanted situation that can ruin the enjoyment of the Winter Wonderland event. Reflection I can expect that in the event the crowd management plays a big role and it is important in the time of pandemic to control the crowd. I saw that they are miking frequently and encouraging to follow the rules of a pandemic to the visitors. In addition, I realise that in case stalls and rides refuse to provide ser ice who after not wearing a mask will be a better option to manage the crowd and handle the situation. However, I realise that number of security guards was less compared to the crowd. At the entry point, they are not checking properly and it can be risky. The number of helping points was also not sufficient and they need to improve it to have suitable planning and provide helps on time to run their operation smoothly and continue the event as per their planning. Event Design And Theme Expectations The Theme of the Withe Wonderland event party was expected to be attractive and mesmerising. It was expected that it will provide a different level of enjoyment to the visitors that helps to increase the popularity of the events. In addition, it was expected that they will be based on winter and something magical that will enhance visitors experience. The time of holidays it will be organized so in theme the Christmas and new years can be include. It will help them to enjoy their holidays to the fullest (Tafesse 2016). Further, to attract the children to the events it was expected that some fictitious characters, cartoon characters, superheroes and Disney characters, can be included in the theme that will increase the popularity and crass among Childers and they can also enjoy their visits. With rides for adults, some children ride needs to be there so that despite all ages and gender everyone can enjoy their time. In the case of design, it is expected that all the decoration needs to be mesmerising and unique (Duong 2018). It needs to be creative as well which will have balance with the winter theme. With magical blue lights and false snow, the whole
  • 5. decoration is to expected be done that will give a different experience. Along with that, some programs can be organized such as singing, dancing for the enjoyment of the visitors that will provide them a good time and enhance the value of the Winter Wonderland event (Erlandia 2016). The success of the event is more or less dependent on how efficiently the management organises and design the events each day. The decoration, the distribution of programs needs to be up to the mark that will attract visitors. The beautiful design and theme is the key point of the event that will increase the sales of the tickets and make the event a huge success for the event planner (Leppisaari 2016). Observations From Winter Wonderland - The Photo Analysis Figure 4: Decoration in the event Figure 5: Rides in event From the observation, it can be seen that the decoration and the design are good but not up to the mark. They can improve their planning and improvise it. From image 4 it can be seen that the blue lighting was designed by keeping in mind the winter theme and the magical events. However, to be more innovative in this aspect they can arrange false snow there that also increase visitors experience (Raftery et al. 2015). One thing also noticed that there was also no arrangements to attract the attention of the childer that make them bore. Thye can arrange some superman and cartoons in theme as well that will entertain children who come to visit with their parents. In addition, the offers provided in the Winter Wonderland also was attractive. Image 5 indicates that all kinds of rides were available for different age groups and people were having fun. Reflection I realise that to have a successful event it is necessary to have an attractive design, and basically, it is the key to success. Along with the sustainability and the cored management in the Winter Wonderland event, I saw they follow the winter theme to some extend and decorate all over with the blue lights. The whole arrange net was done in the open air that was also a plus point of the design and decoration. In addition, I realise that one thing was really missing and disappointing is that they were no arrangements for entertainment for the children. In decorating, designing and theme selection a no one thinks about them. This makes them bore and also may impact in the number of visitors. Thye must arrange some entertainment for them so that parents can enjoy their time and children can enjoy their kith have good time will ensure the success of the events.
  • 6. Conclusion From the above discussion, it can be analyzed that to organize a successful event along with sustainability planning, crowd management, and effective theme selection is also required. Along all together the success of an event is determined. It is always expected sustainability maintain in the events so that environmental and cultural balance and be assured. Plastic use can be reduced and provide easy public transportation. Crowd management is essential in every event planning. In addition, in the time of e pandemic, it is necessary to follow the rules of the social distancing, and others to keep everyone safe in the event. For the security and book ticket as per capacity is necessary. The theme of the Withe Wonderland them the party was expected to be attractive and mesmerising. The winter-based theme and the arrangement for children need to be there. Reference Al-Shaery, A.M., Alshehri, S.S., Farooqi, N.S. and Khozium, M.O., 2020.
