The document describes the process of earning a badge through a makers badge platform. It involves self-assigning a badge, sharing evidence to a backpack, and having the badge added. Specifically, the user visits a page, selects text as evidence, selects a soldering badge, which is then added to their backpack. They choose to share this on Facebook.
The document proposes an agnostic social network that uses existing social networks as the communication engine. It allows users to connect with groups based on interests and location. Users can create "shout outs" to post content and engage in discussions. Shout outs can be shared across networks. The document also provides examples of how users could collaborate on projects or get travel recommendations through the system.
Guidelines for the management of relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia in chi...Apollo Hospitals
Considerable progress has been made in the treatment of newly diagnosed childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. With the use of intensive, risk-stratified multiagent chemotherapeutic protocols, over 80% of patients can hope to be long-term survivors. However, despite optimal treatment, about 20% of patients relapse. The treatment of these children poses a major challenge. The prognosis of these patients depends on a number of factors including time since diagnosis, the site of relapse and immunophenotype. The choice of postinduction therapy depends on these prognostic factors. Considerable work has been done to identify the subgroups of relapsed patients whose outcomes are significantly altered by allogeneic bone marrow transplant. In our scenario, the limited availability of allogeneic bone marrow transplant due to a host of factors renders the management of these children even more challenging.
The document summarizes key aspects of liberalism and rejections of liberalism through history. It discusses the philosophies of classical liberal thinkers like John Locke, John Stuart Mill, and Karl Marx. It then analyzes circumstances in Germany and Russia that made communism and fascism appealing rejections of liberalism, including economic turmoil after WWI in Germany and oppression under the Tsar in Russia. The document considers elements of these rejections that could still be considered liberal and debates how justified the rejections were given the circumstances. It concludes by comparing the past rejections to the contemporary rejection of liberalism by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Kieran Bradley is planning a video game and researching different elements like color schemes and sound effects. He found a range of colors that would work well for the game's setting, thinking a clear grey tone is suitable. Color will be an important element. He also plans to research other games for inspiration on colors used. For sound effects, Kieran considers recording walking sounds in a stairwell and using various objects to mimic gunshots. He may need to source a police siren online. Kieran also lists potential music to include and contingencies for issues that could arise during production.
How to build learnable apps that users love at first sightAdam Kenney
The document discusses how to build apps that users love at first sight. It outlines three "laws of love" for app design: 1) start with familiar elements, 2) simplify complicated choices, and 3) reward exploration and trial-and-error. The document uses examples from Pandora and Facebook to illustrate how following these laws can make apps more intuitive and enjoyable to use. It stresses the importance of understanding users through direct observation and feedback in order to design apps that users will become truly engaged with and love using.

Harkable Day of Innovation Oct 2013 - Hark in the ParkHarkable
On 25th Oct 2013, the Harkable team embarked upon a day of innovation to solve the problem - "How can we make events more social, engaging for fans and more data-rich for organisers? We then created a fictitious music festival entirely driven by social media. This slideshare documents the day.
The document outlines Jack Morton's pre-production plan for a school project on sound effects and music. It includes a list of sound effects and tracks that will be used, where they will be sourced from, and how each will be implemented. Potential issues and solutions are identified relating to staying on schedule, using editing software, copyright, health and safety, and equipment needs. An 8-day production schedule is provided detailing the planned activities and resources required for each day.

The document also suggests inspirational case studies and feedback mechanisms to iteratively improve designs.
David has had a unique experience as a software practitioner. David met (and eventually married) a lady who was in the process of writing a dissertation on collaboration during pair programming. Reviewing (and reviewing and reviewing) this dissertation in combination with his industry experience has provided David with some unique insights into the act of pair programming. This talk aims to distill those insights and provide you with some concrete mechanisms that you can bring to your next pairing session to ensure that it is more effective.
This document provides details on the pre-production for a video project. It will have a teal and orange or blue color scheme to make colors pop. Images of scooter riding and photography will appeal to the target audience. Two thumbnail layout styles are presented that feature symmetrical images and separated title. The one-week schedule includes activities like skateparking, concerts, and traveling to locations. Equipment needs, potential issues, and safety precautions are also outlined.

Increasing code quality with code reviews (poetry version)David Stockton
The document discusses implementing formal code reviews using code review software. It recommends getting buy-in from developers and management, deciding how to integrate code reviews into the development process, setting requirements like the number of reviews and responses required, and establishing a code of conduct to keep reviews constructive and focused on the code. Formal code reviews can improve code quality by catching bugs earlier and providing a learning opportunity, as multiple reviewers find more issues than a single developer.
The document discusses tips for filming and editing skateboarding videos. It recommends using a camera handle or homemade PVC handle for stability while filming tricks. A fisheye or wide-angle lens is critical for capturing multiple tricks in a "line." When filming, the person must be prepared to dodge flying boards and stay aware of their surroundings. For editing, choosing smooth footage and creative camera angles is important, as is selecting fitting background music or leaving it out for sponsor submissions. The overall goal is to showcase the artistry and lifestyle of skateboarding through creative video projects.
This document provides details on the pre-production planning for a pixel art football video game. Most software development processes are focused on tracking and delivery. Unfortunately, writing code is no longer the bottleneck. The real bottleneck is the team ability to learn about the domain complexity and do the right thing.
Bailey Furman proposes creating a trailer about keys that can turn off the internet. The trailer will depict the keys turning off the entire internet to show how much people and daily life depend on it. Bailey will research how the internet works, who owns the keys, and related companies and history. Filming and animation skills from prior projects will be applied. The project will be evaluated based on time management, suitability for the target audience, and insights for improving future work. Research tasks are outlined for each week with production and evaluation planned for weeks 9-15.
The document discusses Web 2.0 and its advantages for classroom use. Web 2.0 refers to internet programs that run in web browsers rather than being installed on individual computers, allowing users to interact with the content. Some potential benefits of using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom include access to free resources, increased engagement of digital native students, opportunities to try new teaching methods, and preparation for future job skills that utilize these technologies. Several specific Web 2.0 tools are also described, including collaborative flashcard sites, online quizzing programs, and memory modeling software.
The document discusses principles of usability and web design, including making important content no more than two clicks away, designing pages that are self-evident and easy to scan, using clear hierarchies and conventions, and keeping distractions and unnecessary words to a minimum. It also provides guidance on conducting low-cost usability testing with a small number of testers to identify and fix usability issues early in the design process.
This document discusses guerrilla usability testing techniques. It explains that guerrilla testing is an informal testing method that can be done with minimal equipment like a computer, moderator, and video recorder to capture user interactions. Some benefits of guerrilla testing are that it is low cost, provides qualitative insights, and can be done continuously throughout the development process. Examples highlighted include Microsoft's extensive usability testing for Halo 3 that helped identify and address user frustrations.

There isn't one right way to make a strip of LEDs fit nicely and
elegantly atop your piano keys, so definitely spend some time and
see what cool spins you can put on the idea. Before settling on
this design, I bounced around a number of other ideas, some of
which would have been uglier and some of which could have been
much prettier. My goal was to achieve balance: making
something worth leaving on the piano all year long without
spending too much time being a perfectionist. I was glad with that
decision when I started messing with the electronics and software
