3. So what? The “old way” worked fine for me and the people I went to school with…we graduated and became productive citizens. Are you saying that I’m not a good teacher now?

4. No one’s saying… No one’s saying lectures don’t work. No one’s saying that traditional tests don’t work. No one’s saying that the chalkboard/overhead doesn’t work. No one’s saying that kids can’t learn using traditional methods…

5. Great…then why am I here? Did “traditional” ways of teaching always keep YOUR attention in class? Did you ever learn IN SPITE of what/how your teachers taught? Did you ever think, “Gee, there’s gotta be a better way of doing this?”

6. Web 2.0 might be an option for you in your classroom (great…but I still don’t know what it is….)

8. So what’s Web 2.0? Web 2.0 is the nickname for the new internet… What’s new about it? originally if you wanted to run a program on your computer it had to be installed ON your computer

9. So what’s Web 2.0? Web 2.0 is a term that refers to programs that run off the internet (without having to be installed on your computer)…it allows people to be interactive with the internet

Why would I want to use Web 2.0 tools in my classroom? many of the tools are free might make assignments more appealing to the “digital natives” in my classroom you might want to try something new these types of tools are what students will need in the future (not just college, but in their jobs) you want to engage a whole new type of thinking in your classroom

12. OK, so what was Web 1.0? Web 1.0 is how we think of the internet when it first appeared… it was passive and simply used to search for things

13. Great…is there gonna be a Web 3.0? Many of these experts believe that the Web 3.0 browser will act like a personal assistant. As you search the Web, the browser learns what you are interested in.

14. Great…is there gonna be a Web 3.0? The more you use the Web, the more your browser learns about you and the less specific you'll need to be with your questions.

15. Great…is there gonna be a Web 3.0? Eventually you might be able to ask your browser open questions like "where should I go for lunch?"

17. What will we look at today? EDISCIO -This is a great free “collaborative flashcard tool.” What makes this so great is the ability to create teacher and student accounts. The teacher accounts can create classes and allow teachers to invite people to use the flashcards. You can “schedule your learning” (meaning that it will prompt you to learn by schedule…so many cards per day) and you can see the stats associated with any review session. As a creator of a “cardbox” of flashcards you can adjust the following options: a) is it public/private? b) use only by invitation? c) who can invite people? d) who can edit cards? e) who can add cards

QUIZLET – Two things make this free flashcard service special: 1) they have a test creator which would be great for students who need the extra practice and 2) this site is testing out a voice recognition module in addition to games and the ability to edit who is able to see and edit the cards which would be great for special education students with modifications or maybe just auditory learners. On a side note, the Space Race game is really fun

19. What will we look at today? STUDYSTACK -This is another free flashcard service that does what many of the other services do (allows you to share, create, edit, play games, etc…) BUT this service allows you to send the cards you created to your phone (including iPhone), PDA, or iPod. Games it includes are hangman, bug match, targets, scramble, and it creates crossword puzzles.

20. What will we look at today? FUNNELBRAIN -This is another online flashcard program that performs many of the same functions as the other programs but also has its own special features. Two really neat features include a wide variety of already created AP study cards (all different subjects) and it’s easy to create and join groups.

21. What will we look at today? HEADMAGNET -Headmagnet creates a model of what's going on in your head. It predicts what memories have faded away, and what memories are still inside, allowing you to quickly get things in your head and keep them there. The more you use headmagnet, the better it gets at modeling what goes on in your head.
