What is the film all about?
The film is going to be an hour long documentary on what goes the behind the scenes as well as footage of ‘Major Lazer’
performing on their most recent tour as well as other gigs where they’ve performed with other artists. The aim of the film is
to transport the audience into the personal lives of the group so that they feel as though they know Major Lazer thus a larger
fan base is created.
Front exterior cover
‘They’re on a mad ting’- mixmag
The over all look for the front exterior is going to be strong yet simplistic. The image
used will be a portrait of the group’s cartoon Icon, as this image has become a part of
the group’s identity and so audience members will know instantly what the DVD is
about as the image is so Iconic. The header/title will be the name of the group just to
emphasise who the DVD is about even further. A quotation from dance magazine
‘mixmag’ is featured at the bottom telling the audience that ML are ‘on a mad ting’.
The quotation uses popularised, Jamaican slang to explain that ML are wild and fun.
The Audience members will understand this as they’re young and can therefore
understand the language being used, the quotation directly addresses a younger
audience. In general the cover is kept mysterious and simplistic to encourage the
audience to pick up the DVD/Blu-ray and have a look at the back cover.
Interior
On the left hand side will be a title page of the lyrics to one of their
songs, this will not only help the audience learn and remember lyrics
but it acts as a nice break between the imagery used and follows the
theme of ML’s graphic novel/cartoon style. The disc itself will be placed
on the right as shown and a studio –shot, long shot of the band will be
used with the image covering the disc too. When the disc is in use, the
full shot will still be seen as a paper copy will go underneath the case.
The use of this type of shot allows the audience to view Major Lazer in
a professional light, as well as we get to see all of them from head to
toe, thus we can familiarise ourselves with their full image. As well as
they seem friendly and approachable as their body language is open.
BACK EXTERIOR COVER
“Join Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy fire as they embark on their 2017
tour. We’ve given you all access passes into the electric shows, the
drama backstage and all the tour bus antics. See a side you’d never
thought you’d see from the trio and come and meet some of their pals
by the names of Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Sean Paul and Lorde plus
many more.. They sure know how to ‘light it up’!”
The back cover features a main image of a long shot of two of the group’s members. The shot engages the audience as
we can see it’s of high quality, it shows off the group’s amazing stage persona as well as it’s taken from a slight lower
angle portraying the two as authoritative, power, figures. As an image it’s strong as it drops the audience member
straight into the action. Beneath this is a gallery of a variety of stills from different parts of the documentary. The images
aim to portray the group as popular, humble and their lives nothing but exciting and as a life to aspire to have.
The synopsis is in red which is in keeping with the theme as there is some red used in the main image on the front cover.
Furthermore it contrasts well with the blue and black as red is such a passionate, vibrant and emotive colour.
The age certificate as allocated by the BBFC is certificate 15. This is because the fan base will predominantly consist of
teenagers and people in their early twenties as that is the age range that can get into festivals and hear their music and
so will recognise Major Lazer. Furthermore the documentary is all access so it will display explicit language, and have
some sexual references/sexualised nudity. To the left of this is an ‘information’ tab with details of the running time,
language, and subtitles etc. This ensures the audience member that this is an original copy of the documentary as
pirated discs could have a longer or shorter running time or not feature subtitles etc. Even more so the copy right and
production company ‘SONY PICTURES’ have been featured to legitimise the disc. Sony entertainment was chosen as they
acquire, produce, and distribute filmed entertainment through multiple platforms. Therefore they are a an institution
which uses cross media convergence. ‘MAD DECENT’, ‘DOWNTOWN’ and ‘Secretly Canadian’ are the record labels to
which Major Lazer are signed to. They ‘re featured on the back of the cover as they obviously need to be a credited for
as they’re a huge part of Major Lazer. The barcode is featured at the back in the bottom so the DVD itself can be
purchased easily as well as its positioned so that it doesn’t detract from the main imagery. The DVD is to be released on
both DVD as well as Blu-ray because Blu-ray is the more current, popularised version of DVD so it is in keeping with the
current ways of watching films at home. It is still going to be released on DVD as although not as current, there is still a
large enough audience who would want to purchase the DVD.
Down the case’s spine the most important features of the DVD are illustrated.. The title, the age certificate, the
DVD/Blu-ray logo all tell the audience exactly who the DVD is aimed at. Furthermore, if stacked alongside other DVDs on
shop shelves for example the title and information will always be seen.

Major Lazer DVD/Blu-ray pitch.

  • 2. What is the film all about? The film is going to be an hour long documentary on what goes the behind the scenes as well as footage of ‘Major Lazer’ performing on their most recent tour as well as other gigs where they’ve performed with other artists. The aim of the film is to transport the audience into the personal lives of the group so that they feel as though they know Major Lazer thus a larger fan base is created.
  • 3. Front exterior cover ‘They’re on a mad ting’- mixmag The over all look for the front exterior is going to be strong yet simplistic. The image used will be a portrait of the group’s cartoon Icon, as this image has become a part of the group’s identity and so audience members will know instantly what the DVD is about as the image is so Iconic. The header/title will be the name of the group just to emphasise who the DVD is about even further. A quotation from dance magazine ‘mixmag’ is featured at the bottom telling the audience that ML are ‘on a mad ting’. The quotation uses popularised, Jamaican slang to explain that ML are wild and fun. The Audience members will understand this as they’re young and can therefore understand the language being used, the quotation directly addresses a younger audience. In general the cover is kept mysterious and simplistic to encourage the audience to pick up the DVD/Blu-ray and have a look at the back cover.

Interior On the left hand side will be a title page of the lyrics to one of their songs, this will not only help the audience learn and remember lyrics but it acts as a nice break between the imagery used and follows the theme of ML’s graphic novel/cartoon style. The disc itself will be placed on the right as shown and a studio –shot, long shot of the band will be used with the image covering the disc too. When the disc is in use, the full shot will still be seen as a paper copy will go underneath the case. The use of this type of shot allows the audience to view Major Lazer in a professional light, as well as we get to see all of them from head to toe, thus we can familiarise ourselves with their full image. As well as they seem friendly and approachable as their body language is open.
  • 5. BACK EXTERIOR COVER “Join Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy fire as they embark on their 2017 tour. We’ve given you all access passes into the electric shows, the drama backstage and all the tour bus antics. See a side you’d never thought you’d see from the trio and come and meet some of their pals by the names of Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Sean Paul and Lorde plus many more.. They sure know how to ‘light it up’!” The back cover features a main image of a long shot of two of the group’s members. The shot engages the audience as we can see it’s of high quality, it shows off the group’s amazing stage persona as well as it’s taken from a slight lower angle portraying the two as authoritative, power, figures. As an image it’s strong as it drops the audience member straight into the action. Beneath this is a gallery of a variety of stills from different parts of the documentary. The images aim to portray the group as popular, humble and their lives nothing but exciting and as a life to aspire to have. The synopsis is in red which is in keeping with the theme as there is some red used in the main image on the front cover. Furthermore it contrasts well with the blue and black as red is such a passionate, vibrant and emotive colour. The age certificate as allocated by the BBFC is certificate 15. This is because the fan base will predominantly consist of teenagers and people in their early twenties as that is the age range that can get into festivals and hear their music and so will recognise Major Lazer. Furthermore the documentary is all access so it will display explicit language, and have some sexual references/sexualised nudity. To the left of this is an ‘information’ tab with details of the running time, language, and subtitles etc. This ensures the audience member that this is an original copy of the documentary as pirated discs could have a longer or shorter running time or not feature subtitles etc. Even more so the copy right and production company ‘SONY PICTURES’ have been featured to legitimise the disc. Sony entertainment was chosen as they acquire, produce, and distribute filmed entertainment through multiple platforms. Therefore they are a an institution which uses cross media convergence. ‘MAD DECENT’, ‘DOWNTOWN’ and ‘Secretly Canadian’ are the record labels to which Major Lazer are signed to. They ‘re featured on the back of the cover as they obviously need to be a credited for as they’re a huge part of Major Lazer. The barcode is featured at the back in the bottom so the DVD itself can be purchased easily as well as its positioned so that it doesn’t detract from the main imagery. The DVD is to be released on both DVD as well as Blu-ray because Blu-ray is the more current, popularised version of DVD so it is in keeping with the current ways of watching films at home. It is still going to be released on DVD as although not as current, there is still a large enough audience who would want to purchase the DVD. Down the case’s spine the most important features of the DVD are illustrated.. The title, the age certificate, the DVD/Blu-ray logo all tell the audience exactly who the DVD is aimed at. Furthermore, if stacked alongside other DVDs on shop shelves for example the title and information will always be seen.
