MAINSTREAM VS
INDEPENDENT
FILMS
INVESTIGATION OF INSTITUTIONS
There are two types of institutions one is mainstream
which is more global institution companies like Disney
and Warner Bros who are known as conglomerates,
however independent are more less known as its aimed
at a more local audience like Warp Films who aren't
globally known.
MAINSTREAM
One of the main differences is finance and reputation, Disney have been
around for decades therefore they have 360 degree branding and a significant
appeal to everyone due to its reputation and advertisement. As a
conglomerate Disney has more financial backing therefore they are vertically
integrated so they have more control in the filming process.
INDEPENDENT
Warp Film however has a more local appeal as they have a lower budget
amongst other distribution companies, mainly for British audiences.
Furthermore, Warp Films are more raw and realistic making the films higher
in age rating and only suitable for a smaller audience making this company
more independent. Also, independent films have more say in the style of the
film, whereas Disney is limited to a certain genre.
OUR INSTITUTION
For our production company we would want to make it
independent to appeal to our local audience. This is because we
have a lower budget as well as it wouldn't be widely advertised
like Disney, however it makes the films understated.
