- 5. MITOSIS • Also known as Equational division. • A haploid or diploid cell can perform Mitosis. • At it’s end , it gives two daughter cells. • It helps in growth and healing.
- 6. MEIOSIS • Discovered by Farmer and Moore. • Also known as Reductional division. • A Diploid cell perform meiosis. • At it’s end , it gives 4 daughter cells.
- 7. MITOTIC POISON • The chemicals which prohibits cell division are known as Mitotic poison. • Examples of mitotic poison are Colchicine , Mustard gas , Azides and Cyanide. • Colchicine inhibits the formation of mitotic spindle. • Mustard gas causes fragmentation .
- 8. MITOGENS • The chemicals which prevent cell division is known as Mitogens. • Examples of mitogens are Insulin ,auxin , sceroids and temperature. • It is a small bioactive protein or peptide. • Mitogens are important in cancer research due to their effect on cell cycle
