Evidence collected meets the critical

AT Gold Coast Institute of TAFE we are piloting the use of iPads and e- portfolios for our in house Diploma of VET staff development program Evidence collected meets the critical aspects for the following units:- •TAEPDD501A Maintain and enhance professional practice •TAEDEL502A Provide advanced facilitation practice •TAEASS501A Provide advanced assessment practice •TAEDES505A Evaluate a training program Some of the benefits of using an e- assessment model for our staff development programs are:- •Enhanced PDP process •Modelling innovative teaching, learning and assessment practices •Sustainable educational practices •Compliance •Transference of e-assessment model to commercial delivery programs
  • 3. Fantastic , now I can discuss getting my Diploma of Vet or Bachelor in VET I’m only new to teaching, why do I have to bother with a PDP AND worry about becoming an Advanced VET Teacher? We need to discuss your Professional Development Plan (PDP) and the steps you need to take to become an Advanced VET Practitioner

Reflect on your current professional Practice Plan a professional development program Participatein professional practice activities Demonstrate advanced facilitation and assessment practices Lead peers in professional development Quality educational outcomes are a result of the VET practitioner being actively involved in a cycle of continuous improvement Reference: IBSA Holistic Assessment Materials, TAE50111 Diploma in Vocational Education and Training, 1st Ed 2011

What’s the purpose of this cycle of continuous improvement •Focus on quality teaching •Pathway to advanced VET teaching qualifications •Career advancement •Employment opportunities •Compliance requirements •Focus on Industry and educational currency •Ensuring our teaching staff have the capability to meet our current and future strategic direction

What sort of evidence do I need to collect? •current PDP •third party observation reports of facilitation and assessment •feedback from learners •lesson plans •timetabling and attendance •video or audio recordings and photographs •assessment records •learning and assessment materials developed by you, or used in your practice •journal entries or diaries •Formal Qualifications or certification •Certificate of membership to industry and professional bodies
  • 7. How will I “collect” and “store” this evidence One of the best portable and “sustainable” or “green” ways is to use “digital” or “e-assessment” collection and storage methods. Such as using • iPads and apps to collect •e-portfolios to store it
  • 8. I could use the iPad to :- •Record audio, video or photos of my teaching and assessing • complete and “sign” observation checklists and marking criteria guides E-portfolios are just like having my own web page in cyber space. I can :- •Collect and store all my evidence over time •select who sees it •use it for RPL applications or job interviews, even assessment submissions •Use the evidence to demonstrate an advancement to a leading teaching position
  • 9. I want to look at some iPad and e-portfolio examples Wow , I could use these e-assessment tools for my own students’ assessment or RPL evidence collection and marking criteria checklists !!

Interactive PDF form completed using the ipad Document signed on iPad and emailed to student and admin as audit evidence Photographic evidence can be captured and attached to electronic marking criteria Audio evidence and oral questioning can be recorded and attached to form Completed Observation Checklist PDF Expert in action on the iPad

  • 13. Eportfolio concept currently being introduced into the trades for Cert 1 carpentry as evidence storage collection • to enable schools to review students progress • To enable potential employers to view students work prior to offering apprenticeships
