Dual sector (VET & Higher Education)
1100 students,
60 academic staff members
40 general staff
Programs are offered in four discipline
areas at levels ranging from Certificate 3
(VET) to research doctorates.

Started using Mahara in 2009 with a cohort
of Diploma in Youth Work students.
Was not connected to our Moodle.

5. Tabor Adelaide
2012 upgraded to Moodle 2.0 – as well as
the complete Mahara, Google Apps for
Education, and Alfresco content
management system integration – I like to
call it….‘Gahoodlesco’ … 

Gmail - includes voice, text and video chat in addition to email
Calendar – shareable, multiple calendars
Drive – access files anywhere (like Dropbox) 5gb storage in
addition to Google files
Docs – real time collaboration, form creation
Spreadsheets – Google’s version of Excel!
Slides – Google’s version of Powerpoint!
Sites – collaborative websites

10. Teaching Teachers for the Future
 2012 involved in Teaching Teachers for the Future
(TTF) project.
 “The Teaching Teachers for the Future (TTF)
project is aimed at enabling all pre-service
teachers at early, middle and senior levels to
become proficient in the use of ICT in
education.” (TTF website)
 One of the resources coming out of the project –
ICT Statements aligned to Teacher Standards for
Graduate Teachers.

16. Limitations
 Not able to submit a collection as an assignment
 Student able to change Google Doc / Spreadsheet
content after submission of assignment to Mahara.
Way around this is to provide submission spot for
Mahara page and another one to upload the
Google Doc / Spreadsheet.
Would be good to have a solution for this –
perhaps a snapshot?

17. Advantages
 Group eportfolio collaboration and submission
 Use Google Apps as storage for Mahara
 Single sign on access to content wherever situated
– in Google Apps, Mahara, Moodle or Alfresco.
 Can access assignments anywhere if using
Google Docs/Drive
 Real time collaboration in Google Docs

18. Where to from here?
 Preparing for Mahara Community of Practice for
School of Education
 Looking at use of data from Moodle, Mahara,
Google Apps and Alfresco for a whole learning
analytics picture including creation of reports.
 Preparing for Semester 1, 2014 – whole of college
use of Mahara & Google Apps across the breadth
and depth of qualifications
 Searching for apps and add-ons to make life even
more interesting 
