The document outlines the production process for a magazine, which involves 8 key stages: 1) planning the publishing schedule, 2) making editorial decisions, 3) acquiring content through writing and photography, 4) sub-editing for quality control, 5) creating the page layout, 6) proofreading, 7) printing, and 8) distribution. It also describes the roles of important personnel like the editor, writers, art director, and photo editor. The entire process from initial planning to distribution can take 3-4 months depending on the complexity and length of the magazine.
As a business owner, I have learnt the importance of strategic planning. Having been through a summer of friends getting married last year, I’ve been bombarded by discussions about their wedding planning over the last twelve months, and how they’ve scheduled tasks for certain months in advance of the wedding. I thought this same premise could be used as the perfect platform for planning any major event – including my businesses planned tradeshows and exhibitions.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Production process involved in a magazine
1. First of all the date of publishing the magazine as a finished product needs to be decided. Once this date is decided upon, then the editors etc
can now create a schedule of plans on when each parts of the production process will occur and the deadlines for them. The Schedule must
be followed, and there should be parts in the schedule that nothing will be over-due if a happening occurs.
2. Editorial decisions are now to be made. This involves the decision of who will be in the magazine editorial team, and what issues / topics
will be covered in the next magazine issue. During this decision, they will have to think about the types of images, illustrations, articles and
stories that are going to be presented. They also look at the money that is available and how it will be spent during the production process.
4. ! Unit G321 – Foundation Portfolio in Media – Production Plan Template
3. Next the editors move on to content acquisition. This is about gathering the actual content of the magazine. This is achieved is by in-house
staff writers or writers outside that are commissioned to write on specific topics. Meetings for interviews, deciding on locations for
photography, researching into the topics being mentioned by journalists and reporters is done as well. During this time, illustrations /
photographs and graphics are created and refined continuously. The graphics are designed with a computer program, and photographs are
taken in studios etc.
4. Sub Editing is done next, which ensures quality control of the magazine content. This is done by sub-editors, but if there aren’t any, then it is
done by the editors. During this process it is their responsibility to check accuracy of all the facts and spellings in articles, as well as
grammar and punctuation. Also they check whether the articles have the house-style of the magazine. This is also the stage where editors
work on the page layout.
5. Next is the stage where the page layout is created in detail. This is also the point where advertisers place adverts into the content of the
magazine. The layout staff is responsible for creating the layout, and their job is to decide on positions of images, words and articles for each
of the magazine pages. They use softwares such as Adobe Indesign and other Desktop Publishing (DTP) programs to produce a high quality
finish.
6. Once all the pages are created, proofreading is done. The editorial department will print out the pages and proofread for any design or
content corrections. If mistakes are found, the editors correct it on the original document. This is repeated until no more mistakes are found.
7. The file of the entire magazine is sent to the printer to print the magazine. It is at this stage where ‘Pre-press’ is done. It is the process of
checking whether or not the editors are sending all the necessary images and fonts needed for the pages. Before the printing company prints
out many copies of the magazine, they first print out a few for the publication editor to go through a final proof-reading. (Printer’s proofs).
When all pages are correct and ready to be distributed, mass printing occurs within the printing company.
8. The last stage of the magazine production process is the distribution. When the printing company finishes printing all the magazine copies,
they are packaged neatly and are sent to a warehouse, where they are distributed around stores and shops, then they are sold to the public.
5. ! Unit G321 – Foundation Portfolio in Media – Production Plan Template
A time scale in which a magazine is published can vary depending on the page numbers and the content. For example, research / writing can
vary from a few weeks to a several months, depending on how complex the project is. The editing may take 3 to 4 weeks, depending on how
many proofs the editors had to go through, but also how much corrections are to be done on each page. The total time spent approximately on
proofreading pages are 2 to 3 weeks. Colour proofing can take up to three weeks but this can be done while editing / design is taking place.
Key Personnels:
Editor- They are responsible of the editorial and the production side of magazine. In Kerrang!’s content, they are also responsible for choosing
cover stars, choosing bands for tours and tracks for CD’s, and overseeing the layout, content and artworks of articles. They also have the
responsibility to manage writing staffs, and proofreading their articles and the whole magazine, which may be returned to the writer for revision.
It is also their job to send out briefs to the writers mentioning word counts, deadline, fees etc.
Writer/journalist- They are responsible for generating ideas for future contents, verifying information and interview sources, writing and
proofreading the actual text, meeting and discussing ideas and plans with designers, photographers, editors and subs.
Art Director- They are responsible for the aesthetics of the magazine. They oversee the words and images across every page in the magazine,
and create a house style that represents the magazine.
Photo Editor- They oversee the photography that goes into the magazine. Their job is to hire photographers, not to take them. It is their
responsibility to make sure that the photographs are in the right place in the right pages.
