• What is the purpose and target audience
of your school magazine?
• How does the magazine follow the
conventions of layout and page design?
• How does your contents page follow the
style of your magazine?
Images
• Why did you select your main cover and
additional images?
– What is it?
– How did you manipulate it?
– How could use semiotics to analyse it?
• Mode of address?
• Mise-en scene?
• Colour?
• Body Language/Facial expression?
• Framing/distance?
– How will it appeal to your target audience?
Text
• What fonts did you select and why?
– What does the font style suggest about the type of
magazine?
– How would this appeal to the target audience?
• What did you actually write?
– Did you use a formal/informal register?
– How is this appropriate to your audience?
– Did you use any buzz words?
– Did you use anchorage text?
Colour Scheme
• What is the general colour scheme for the
magazine?
• How do the colours complement/contrast
with each other and why?
• Could you apply semiotic analysis to your
chosen colours?
Graphics/Text boxes
• Did you use any graphics or text boxes?
– What were they and why did you choose
them?
– How will they draw the eye to certain sections
of your magazine?
– How might they appeal to the audience?
– How do they fit in with the style of the
magazine?
Homework
• Type up your analysis and post on the
blog
