M is a young man with cerebral palsy and other disabilities who has been using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices since early childhood to communicate. He started with a single switch to activate pre-recorded messages and has progressed over the years to using multiple switches and touchscreen devices with pictures, words, and software programs. The most recent development is providing M with a touchscreen laptop to give him more opportunities for communication, learning, and independence through accessing customized folders and programs tailored to his abilities.
