This document summarizes an experiment conducted by an airport telecommunications operator to test the use of 4G/LTE networks for critical communications. The experiment showed that LTE networks could replace existing specialist critical networks, providing broadband and video. Key findings included bit rates exceeding previously achieved rates without external aircraft antennas, and positioning of vehicles on runways and aprons with accuracy below 1 meter and refreshment below 1 second. The conclusion discusses benefits like guaranteed broadband coverage, optimized resource and spectrum use, and consistent investments under a shared network model to provide 24/7 critical services.
