In Vienna, he established himself as a renowned piano virtuoso but his hearing began to deteriorate in his late 30s, becoming completely deaf by his last decade. Despite his deafness, Beethoven continued composing some of his most admired works and remained one of the most influential composers, known for compositions including 9 symphonies, 5 piano concertos, and 16 string quartets. 6. During his first 22 years in Bonn, Beethoven
intended to study with Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart. Then he moved to Vienna in 1792 and

success from his arranged compositions and
public performances.

9. In about 1800 his hearing began to deteriorate, and
by the last decade of his life he was almost totally
deaf. He gave up conducting and performing in

admired works come from this period.

11. In late 1801 he met a young countess, Julie
Guicciardi. He could not consider marrying her,
due to the class difference. Beethoven later
dedicated to her his Sonata No.14 which is
commonly known as Moonlight Sonata.

9 symphonies, 5 concertos for piano, 32
piano sonatas, and 16 string quartets.

age of 56. His funeral was attended by
