Church of Christ in 1957. Those who took part in the founding of LCU based it on a hope that it

One strategy that could help in increasing enrollment would be price focused. If LCU continued to
aim to be the lowest cost Christian university, many students will make it their first choice as they
consider all of the many positive aspects of this wonderful university. Price could also play a part in
students transferring as it would be easier to afford long term. A developmental strategy could be
used to put an engineering department into action. This one department could make a tremendous
difference in both enrollment and transfer rates, making it a strong and viable strategy because it
would make all three objectives more attainable. A differentiation strategy that LCU could
implement is to incorporate measures with students that are attending LCU on athletic scholarships
with a limited knowledge about Jesus. Creating special groups and events for these students
alongside students with an established faith will foster the love of Christ through this community.
This could help improve the number of students giving up on the culture of LCU and transferring,
but instead keep them here to contribute to the success of the campus.

He redefines what it means to be a "cool" parent, addressing that the expectations of parents having
to keep up with the latest trends in order to relate to their child is inaccurate. Being a "cool" parent
begins when the parent's authority is challenged by his or her child, and they remain calm (Runkel,

Most non–athletic students, wonder how athletes do it, partake in sports and maintain good grades.
Also, most Athletes dream of being a regular student, just working out to maintain a good health or

students are to being active, the more likely they are to continue in order to be considered fully

My family and I flew from Portland, Oregon to Dallas and then drove into Abilene late in the

James Lee McDonough was born June 17, 1934, in Nashville, TN. Mr. McDonough is the son of
James W. and Ora Lee McDonough. McDonough married Nancy Sharon Pinkston on May 28, 1957.
McDonough and his wife Nancy have three children David, Sharon, Carla. Mr. McDonough
received his bachelor degree at David Lipscomb College in1956. He then went on to Vanderbilt
University to do his graduate work from 1958–60. McDonough received his master degree at
Abilene Christian University in 1961 and at Florida State University in 1966 he received his PhD.
He was a professor at Auburn University upon his retirement in 2000. McDonough has published
many books including Five Tragic Hours: Battle of Franklin, Shiloh: In Hell Before Night, Stones
River: Bloody Winter in Tennessee , Chattanooga: A Death Grip On The Confederacy, and War So
Terrible: Sherman and Atlanta .He is currently 82 and resides in Lewisburg, Tennessee where he is

My ideals when I entered college vary greatly from the time I graduated three short years later. As a
senior at Eden High School, I was one of the few Caucasian students in a small class of only fifteen
students. Majority of my classmates were Hispanic, and so was majority of the remaining student
population. Growing up with little to no diversity caused me to adopt more of the Hispanic cultures
and beliefs. For example, I never wished for an extravagant sweet sixteen party, but instead dreamed
of the perfect quinceanera. Due to the size of the school, the opportunity to participate and be
involved in anything, if not everything, was the norm. I often found my days packed full of various
extra–curricular activities ranging from sports to FCCLA to FFA. My schedule taught me to be

included when I developed insomnia, sleeping only three to four hours a night; most likely due to
being overwhelmed and constantly stressed out. As I progressed through high school, my Christian

I grew up in the Methodist denomination and through this type of teaching or direction, I had never
experienced anything else. I believed that the different doctrines practiced were universal activities
every Christian practiced. I felt very immature in my faith before going to Hardin–Simmons
University. Through the different classes at Logsdon, finding my home church in Abilene, and
figured out the theology I believed in aside from my upbringing. Although I have grown up
Methodist most of my life, I would say my denomination classification has shifted to Baptist. I am

growing up in a different denomination other than Baptist, I have had the opportunity to have real

2. How were you nominated? I was nominated by a colleague, Denise Hopper. I mentioned that I
really wanted to know so that I could thank the person responsible. Denise is a fine teacher, a role
model and a professional, and I am grateful to her.
3. What does it mean to you? Being nominated for Master Teacher is an honor that I will treasure for
the rest of my life. I have known many Master Teachers in this district and they are the epitome of
excellence in education. I will do my best to represent the district well as I go through the
application process.
4. How long have you been in the district? What positions have you held? I started at Dodge City
High School in 1994 and I have taught all levels of English, served as the debate coach, and I have
taught psychology. In addition, I have been a cheerleader coach, SADD sponsor, KAYS sponsor,
and travel leader. I taught at Project Nightwing (our night school that lasted one year); I taught Read
180 in an after school program; and I directed the after school tutoring program for one year.

The death of a loved one can be tragic. It often alters how people think, feel, and act. Some people
withdraw from life, some move closer to God, and some appear to lose their minds. Shakespeare's
Hamlet and Samuel Johnson both lost someone very close to them, but found very different ways to
deal with their losses. "Hamlet" and "Johnson" have only a few things in common. Both were
written long ago and discuss death of family members. Johnson lost his wife, while Hamlet lost his
father. Although the person they lost and how they died is different, the events changed both men's

Hamlet had all amounts of opportunity for education and travel. Johnson was "born into poverty and
poor for most of his adulthood" (Tippens et al, p 25). Never having to want for anything made it
difficult for Hamlet, because he lived the great life he could not handle loss and he became mad
with the obsession of righting the wrong that was done to him. Johnson being poor his entire life,
which made him appreciate what he did have and desire to keep it as long as he could. In writing
"Hamlet", Shakespeare focused on avenging the death of King Hamlet, fueling Prince Hamlet's
anger with images of his dead father. Johnson used poetry and prayer to bring peace to his life. Both
men were dealing with a great loss but the way they dealt with the loss shaped their lives in different
ways. Hamlet never stopped being angry, he was angry with his uncle, and angry with his mother,
even angry with his father for not being able to be the King that he thought he was to be, but most
importantly he was angry that he lost the appearances of the perfect life. Because Johnson grew up
poor and did not always have everything he desired he treasured what he did have, asking God to
remind him of what he had when his wife was alive brought him peace, and brought him closer to
God. Although some would disagree, how a person deals with death greatly affects how they live
their life. Hamlet did not deal with death or loss well and because of that he lost everything,

Why I Chose Social Work
I'm excited for this opportunity to further my education. Especially, in the field of social work. In
this paper, I will address my motivation for graduate studies and entering the social work profession.
The four themes of the Abilene Christian University School of Social Work (evidence–based

Harris County in the state of Texas was formed in the winter of 1836, and was first called
Harrisburg County after an early settler named John Richard Harris. The name changed from

States' rights, the fight for the unborn and their right to life, and resistance to gun legislation, tend to
be some of the top issues for conservative Texas voters. The last time a Democrat carried the state of
Texas was in 1976, when Jimmy Carter won the Presidential election. During the 2004 presidential
election, then President and Republican candidate, George W. Bush, won with 61.09% against
38.30% votes for the Democratic candidate John Kerry. However, in the more recent Presidential
elections that were held in 2008 and in 2012, the very popular Democratic candidate, Barack
Obama, did not win the majority vote for Texas. Thus, looking at this information, it can be said that
the state of Texas tends to lean more towards the Republican side.
