LSC FOOTBALL
Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce are ed atop the Lone Star Conference standings with iden cal
5-1 league records. MSU had its six-game winning streak snapped at West Texas A&M.
This week’s schedule includes five LSC contests with WT at A&M-C, UT Permian Basin at MSU, Eastern New
Mexico at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Tarleton State at Oklahoma Panhandle State, and Angelo State at Western
New Mexico.
LSC football teams are 40-38 overall this season. The squads are 3-4 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athle c Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
A pair of Lone Star Conference football games are part of the 2016 Division II Football Showcase schedule and
were broadcast on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
For a second straight season, A&M-Commerce hosted a na onal broadcast on October 8 as the Lions hosted
Midwestern State.
UT Permian Basin welcomed West Texas A&M in the Falcon’s first LSC football game in the program’s ini al
season. Due to inclement weather the game was postponed and was not broadcast as scheduled.
NCAA Division II announced 18 of the 22 regular-season football games that will be carried on ESPN3,
WatchESPN and American Sports Network, a er the division entered a three-year agreement in 2015 to
deliver Division II athle cs events. By comparison, only seven games were televised in each of the 2013 and
2014 seasons.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
CO-OFFENSIVE
Devon Paye, West Texas A&M University, SR, RB, Columbia, Md., Hammond HS
Paye tallied a career-high 177 yards rushing and two rushing scores on a career-best 30 carries in a 35-27 win
over No. 4 Midwestern State Saturday evening. He also had one receiving touchdown on six carries for 19
yards. Paye had a 74-yard scamper to give WT the lead for good late in the third quarter as just 20 seconds
earlier MSU took its first lead of the game. It was the longest run of the season for WT and the longest of
Paye’s career.
Shane Truelove, Oklahoma Panhandle State University, SR, QB, Norco, Calif., Corona HS
Truelove had a record-breaking performance against UT Permian Basin this week. The senior quarterback
connected on over 80 percent of his passes (40-for-49) and totaled more than 600 yards in the air with four
touchdowns. Truelove’s 610 yards passing broke a school record for single-game passing yards and is the top
performance in NCAA Division II this season. The Aggies’ 750 yards of total offense in the game is the second-
highest in school history (755 against WNMU in 1961).
CO-DEFENSIVE
Alex Kuyinu, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, SR, DE, Missouri City, Texas, Dulles HS
Kuyinu finished with a career-high four sacks for 16 yards in the come from behind 21-17 victory... the Hogs
limited Tarleton State to just 251 total yards on offense and zero second half points... Kuyinu collected six total
tackles but the senior was a stalwart in holding the Texans to 21 yards rushing.
Gerred Johnson, West Texas A&M University, R-FR, DT, Mansfield, Texas, Summit HS
Johnson made his first career start recording six total tackles, five solo stops, two tackles for loss and recovered
a fumble in the Buffs’ 35-27 win over No. 4 Midwestern State Saturday. Johnson recorded one sack and two
tackles for loss to lead the team. The Buffs held MSU to just 338 yards of offense in the game well below the
436.2 average entering the game. Prior to Saturday, Johnson had just two tackles on the season.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Shawn Hooks, Texas A&M University - Commerce, JR, PR/KR, Daingerfield, Texas, Daingerfield HS
Hooks returned a punt 54 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter of the Lions’ 62-14 win at Angelo State.
This was his second consecu ve game with a punt return for a touchdown. He averaged over 20 yards per punt
return. He currently leads the league and ranks 4th na onally in punt return average at 20.9 yards per game.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jus ce “Chochy” Luce, Texas A&M University - Commerce, made his first career start and was the Lions’
leading receiver in the 62-14 rout of Angelo State. His 125 receiving yards is a career high. He averaged over
15 yards per catch and was key in se ng up the opening touchdown drive, as well as the fourth quarter drive
where he scored.
Mark Munson, Angelo State University, set a season high with 109 receiving yards against Texas A&M-
Commerce. The senior caught five passes and one touchdown. His touchdown recep on of 80-yards is the
longest play from scrimmage for ASU this season.
Zed Woerner, Tarleton State University, threw for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Tarleton in

LONE STAR CONFERENCE FOOTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE 2
Saturday’s contest against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The junior quarterback tossed touchdowns to two
different receivers and completed passes to six
different Texans.
Wya Strand, Eastern New Mexico University, in
less than two quarters of ac on, accounted for 178
yards of total offense in ENMU’s win over Bacone
College. He accounted for four touchdowns. His two
rushing touchdowns came on one and seven-yard
scampers, while he tossed a 48-yard strike to Aaron
Johnson and a 31-yard scoring pass to Jace Lang.
Tracy McNair, Western New Mexico, led the ground
a ack rushing for 106 yards on 12 carries, with a long
of 66 on the first play of scrimmage for WNMU that
led to a 7-0 lead. He also added two catches for eight
yards.
Leo Marin, Western New Mexico, paced the
defense with a game-high 12 tackles, with six coming
solo. He also added a half tackle for loss.
Tuisamoa Magalei, Eastern New Mexico University,
led the Greyhound defense to its first home shutout
since the 2004 season. He made a team-best nine
tackles against Bacone College and helped limit the
Warriors to just eight first downs in the game. Eastern
held BC to -7 yards with no first downs in the opening
quarter of play. Magalei added a third-quarter sack.
EJ Speed, Tarleton State University, was a force
from the defensive end posi on for the Texans
against the league’s top sta s cal offenses, helping
hold Kingsville to a season-low 21 points. Speed made
eight tackles, including six solo stops, to go along with
one sack and two tackles for a loss. Speed also forced
a fumble in the final minute of the game to give the
Texans one final chance to win the game.
Kieston Carter, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
recovered two fumbles, including a scoop-and-score
return, in the Lions 62-14 rout of Angelo State. His
18-yard return for a touchdown in the third quarter
put the Lions up by two touchdowns, and his 14-
yard return in the fourth quarter set up a field goal
a empt. Carter was one of four Lions to score a non-
offensive touchdown in the second half.
Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico University,
turned in a stellar game on special teams in Eastern’s
win over Bacone College. On 10 kickoffs, he had an
incredible seven touchbacks, to limit the Warriors’
return opportuni es. His lone punt covered 72 yards.
For the game, he went seven-for-eight on point-
a er-touchdown a empts and had a tackle on a kick
return.
John Cummings, West Texas A&M University, had
four punts for a 42.5 average in the Buffs’ 35-27 upset
win over #4 Midwestern State Saturday.
Nolan Grigsby, Western New Mexico, returned
six kickoffs for 165 yards and had a long return of 36
yards.
DeAndre Black, Midwestern State University,
sprungapairoflongpuntreturnstoswingmomentum
for No. 4 Midwestern State Saturday night at West
Texas A&M. The junior return man dashed 59 yards
on a punt return late in the second quarter to the WT
7-yard line allowing MSU to close a three-touchdown
deficit to 21-14 at hal ime. The 59-yard punt return
was the 10th longest in MSU program history and
longest since Dominique Williams went 60 yards
against Texas A&M-Commerce in 2013. Black’s 45-
yard return in the third quarter resulted in a MSU’s
only lead of the night at 24-21 on a 35-yard field goal
with 57 seconds to go in the frame. Black’s 104 punt
return yards were the fourth most in a single game
for a Mustang and most since BeeJay Mathis amassed
142 against Northeastern State in 2007. Black also
made four recep ons for 30 yards including a 12-yard
TD recep on in the third quarter to e the game at
21-all.
Taylor Massey, Tarleton State University, led the
way in the return game as the true freshman returned
three kickoffs for 68 yards, including a long return of
31 yards.

Eastern New Mexico quarterback Wya Strand
registered 178 yards of total offense with two passing
touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns, to lead
the Greyhounds (5-4) to a 62-0 victory over visi ng
Bacone College (2-6). Eastern allowed just three
first downs in a first half which saw the Hounds
race to a 49-0 lead, Saturday at Al Whitehead Field
at Greyhound Stadium. In its first home shutout win
sincethe2004season,ENMUallowedjust129yardsof
total offense. The Greyhound defense registered five
quarterback sacks, with Tuisamo Magalei and Dakota
Montoya contribu ng one each. Magalei finished
with a team-high nine tackles, while Quavshaun
Branch made an intercep on. Eastern allowed the
Warriors into the red zone just once during the game.
Strand and Paul Terry ed for the team lead with 67
rushing yards, as seven Greyhounds finished with at
least 24 rushing yards, As a team, ENMU ran for 356
yards. Bacone’s Jordan White passed for 53 yards on
seven comple ons. Aaron Johnson hauled in a 48-
yard touchdown pass for ENMU, while Jace Lang had
a 31-yard touchdown catch. Tayshaun Gary added a
pair of rushing touchdowns for Eastern. The ENMU
will visit Texas A&M-Kingsville next Saturday.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State had its six-game winning streak
snapped. The streak was the seventh longest in
program history... It was the fourth me in school
history the Mustangs started the season with
at least six consecu ve wins... West Texas A&M
assumed a 5-3 edge in the 2016-17 Highway 287
Challenge Cup. The teams were kno ed at 3-3 a er
MSU claimed two points by winning the LSC Cross
Country Championship in the morning before WT
claimed a volleyball victory early in the a ernoon...
The 21-point deficit matched the largest MSU has
faced in the past two seasons as MSU trailed Texas
A&M-Commerce at hal ime last season before falling
27-14. The Mustangs are now 6-3 in games in which
they trailed by double figures since the start of last
season... DeAndre Black’s 104 punt return yards
were the fourth best in MSU history and the most
BeeJay Mathis rolled up 142 yards on punt returns
against Northeastern State (Okla.) in 2007... Black’s
59-yard punt return in the second quarter was the
10th longest in program history and the longest since

Oklahoma Panhandle State
In their highest-scoring game of the season, the
Aggies dominated in the pass game as senior QB
Shane Truelove threw for over 600 yards and four
touchdowns connec ng on 40 of 49 a empts for a
school record of 610 yards passing. The Aggie offense
combined for 750 yards of total offense, the second-
highest single-game yardage in school history.
Receiver Devyn Williams led the game in All-Purpose
yards with 270; 223 of which came off Truelove
comple ons. The Aggies held the lead through the
dura on of the game to earn their first LSC victory
and the first NCAA Division II victory since Gaskamp
took over at the helm.
Tarleton State
Tarleton dropped its homecoming game to Texas
A&M-Kingsville Saturday. The Texans will look to get
back in the win column this weekend with a trip to
Oklahoma Panhandle State.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The No. 9 A&M-Commerce Lions scored the game’s
final 55 points in a 62-14 rout of Angelo State… With
the win, A&M-Commerce is now 7-1 overall and 5-1
in the Lone Star Conference, ed for the league lead…
The Lions scored four non-offensive touchdowns and
forced six turnovers, becoming just the second team
to ever score more than 60 on the Rams… Kieston
Carter had two fumble recoveries, including a fumble
return for a touchdown… B.J. Mills also had a fumble
recovery for a score… Jaylon Edwards-Cooper had
an intercep on return for a touchdown… That gives
A&M-Commerce 12 intercep ons by 11 players this
season… Shawn Hooks had his second punt return for
a touchdown in as many weeks, bringing a punt back
54 yards for a score in the third quarter… Ovie Urevbu
had his first career 100-yard rushing performance
with 105 yards on 17 carries… Luis Perez completed
20-of-33 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns…
Jus ce Luce led the team with eight catches for 125
yards and a score… Lance Evans had three catches for
73 yards and two touchdowns… Hector Dominguez
averaged 37.8 yards per punt with two inside the
Rams’ 20… Kristov Mar nez was a perfect 8-of-8

yards… A&M-Commerce hosts West Texas A&M at 4

A&M-Kingsville earned its first three-game win streak
since 2012 with the 21-17 victory at Tarleton State...
the Hogs held the Texans to zero points in the second
half and collected 8.0 sacks and 13.0 TFL in the win to
improve to 3-3 in LSC play.

The West Texas A&M Buffs kept their NCAA playoff
hopes alive with a thrilling 35-27 win over No. 4
Midwestern State in the Highway 287 Challenge
knocking the Mustangs from the ranks of the
unbeaten...It was the second win over a ranked team
for the Buffs this season (No. 19/20) Colorado State-
Pueblo earlier this year...It marked the first win over a
top five team for the Buffs since a win over then-No.
2 Colorado State-Pueblo last season in Canyon...WT
leads the Highway 287 Challenge 5-3 following the
win and picked up three of five points in the series
Saturday...Senior Devon Paye tallied a career-high

touchdown on six carries for 19 yards...Paye had a

made his second career start going 22 of 29 for 178
yards and two touchdowns...Arbuckle has thrown

to the Texas A&M-Kingsville game (Oct. 8)...The Buff
“D” held the na on’s fourth-leading scorer, running
back Vincent Johnson, to no points in the game as he
had 17 carries for 81 yards...The Buffs went 8 of 15 on
third down as they entered ranked 25th na onally in
third down conversions and first in the LSC, while the
“D” held MSU to 7 of 18 and 2 of 4 on fourth down...
WT now con nues its “playoff” format at na onally
ranked Texas A&M-Commerce next Saturday as the
Buffs need to win out to have a chance at the playoffs.
Western New Mexico
WNMU ran into a tough Fort Lewis team this
weekend, but had strong games from Tracy McNair,
Leo Marin and Nolan Grigsby. In addi on, Javia Hall
passed for a pair of touchdowns, both which went
to Xavier Ayers. Dominic Barry tallied 11 tackles.
McNair led the ground a ack rushing for 106 yards
on 12 carries, with a long of 66 on the first play of
scrimmage for WNMU that led to a 7-0 lead. He also
added two catches for eight yards. Marin paced the
defense with a game-high 12 tackles, with six coming
solo. He also added a half tackle for loss. Grigsby
returned six kickoffs for 165 yards and had a long
return of 36 yards.
