2. RICHARD NEUTRA (1892-1970)
● Richard neutra was born in Vienna,Austria.
● He was the pioneer architect of
international style.
● He was Student of Adolf Loos and also
worked with Frank Lloyd Wright.
● He was inspired Bauhaus and works of Le
Corbusier.
● He became famous for the simple
geometries of his designs, which were often
made of steel and glass, and the
prefabricated elements that made them
extremely easy to build with a modernist look.

● His domestic architecture were a blend of art , landscape & practical
comfort .
● His Design were pure,clean & straight lines organized without any
curves or arc & mixed with landscape of the site without any
ambiguity or confusion in design .
● His works incorporate technology,aesthetics,science and nature
leading to modernist architecture.
● Plate glass walls ceiling and deep over hangings connecting
indoors and outside became the trademark of Neutros architecture.

BIOREALISM:
● Neutra introduced green design concept in connection with building & nature
● He termed “Biorealism “to describe the inherent & inseparable relationship
between man & nature .
● Used nature elements like water and light throughout his design.
REAL NEEDS OF CLIENTS :
● He gave great attention to define the real needs of his clients.
● Used questionnaires to find out what exactly was needed by
his clients.
DESERT MODERNISM
● Modernism adopted to warm climate and arid terrain of south california led to
desert modernism.
● International style was varied and adopted to the region by using desert natural
elements mainly like rugged stone & desert plants in landscaping
5. ● The house is located on a steepy landscaped hill & has views of Pacific
ocean,Santa Monica mountains and the city of Los Angeles.
● It was nicknamed has Health house because the interior was brought into
harmony with nature as well as having outdoor play and recreation areas

● The overlapping planes evokes
designs of Falling water but it is

and huge glass wall , it responds
well to nature surroundings.

7. The floating floor planes were suspended by slender steel cables from the roof frame
The swimming pool at lowest level , was also suspended within the steel frame , from
U shaped reinforced concrete cradles.
