1. Allen High School’s
Love Week
• A 33 year old tradition at Allen High School, Love Week is now the
IB program’s service learning and long term CAS project.
• Students take nominations from the community to select the Love
Week beneficiary.
• The goal is to raise awareness about the recipient’s disease, and to
raise funds to help that individual deal with their ailment.
– Students spend the year raising awareness
– Fundraising occurs the week of Valentine’s Day
• 2010-2011 Love Week recipient was Mavrick Veal, a first grader
battling 2 types of pediatric Leukemia.
— Unfortunately, Mavrick lost his battle with Leukemia during summer
of 2011
• 2011-2012 Love Week recipient was Randi Wideman, a former AHS
teacher and young mother, battling Breast Cancer.
