3. Jesus’ Last Words on Earth
Acts 1:7‐9
7‐8 He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing
is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit.
And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to
be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria,
even to the ends of the world.”
9‐11 These were his last words. As they watched, he was
taken up and disappeared in a cloud. They stood there,
staring into the empty sky. Suddenly two men appeared—
in white robes! They said, “You Galileans!—why do you
just stand here looking up at an empty sky? This very Jesus
who was taken up from among you to heaven will come as
certainly—and mysteriously—as he left.”

4. God’s Way!
Matt 7:13‐20
13‐14 “Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded
with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can
be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even
though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is
vigorous and requires total attention.
15‐20 “Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with
practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off
some way or other. Don’t be impressed with charisma; look for
character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they
say. A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your
pocketbook. These diseased trees with their bad apples are
going to be chopped down and burned.

5. Are you in Him?
1 John 2:4‐6
“If someone claims, “I know him well!” but doesn’t
keep his commandments, he’s obviously a liar. His
life doesn’t match his words. But the one who
keeps God’s word is the person in whom we see
God’s mature love. This is the only way to be sure
we’re in God. Anyone who claims to be intimate
with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus
lived.”

7. A Simple Test!
9‐10 People conceived and brought into life by God
don’t make a practice of sin. How could they? God’s
seed is deep within them, making them who they
are. It’s not in the nature of the God‐begotten to
practice and parade sin. Here’s how you tell the
difference between God’s children and the Devil’s
children: The one who won’t practice righteous
ways isn’t from God, nor is the one who won’t love
brother or sister. A simple test.
11 For this is the original message we heard: We
should love each other.

8. Key Notes
1. Laying a claim to salvation is not a rubber
stamp for anything goes.
2. Anyone who claims to be of God and
habitually sinning, needs a paternity test.
3. There are 2 key distinguishing factors for
God’s children – Righteousness and Love!
4. Our transfer from death to life, is proven by
our love for our brethren. No room for hate!

9. Real Love – Here!
• 1 John 3:16‐24
“16‐17 This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ
sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our
fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother
or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a
cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It disappears.
And you made it disappear.
18‐20 My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love.
This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s
also the way to shut down debilitating self‐criticism, even when there is
something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more
about us than we do ourselves.
21‐24 And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or
condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free before God! We’re able to
stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we’re doing
what he said, doing what pleases him. Again, this is God’s command: to
believe in his personally named Son, Jesus Christ. He told us to love each
other, in line with the original command. As we keep his commands, we live
deeply and surely in him, and he lives in us. And this is how we experience
his deep and abiding presence in us: by the Spirit he gave us.”

10. Key Notes
1. God expects us to extend what Jesus did to
fellow believers. Sacrifice!
2. If you have what it takes to meet a brothers
needs, you should! If you don’t, that’s not Love.
3. How do you know if you are acting in love truly?
Your heart tells you. If you suffer any guilty
conscience, take action!
4. It is when we are free and acting in love, doing
what God pleases, that we are free to receive
from God for what we asked for!

11. God is Love!
7‐10 My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes
from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship
with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about
God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is
how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we
might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that
we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a
sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our
relationship with God.
11‐12 My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love
each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells
deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!
13‐16 This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us:
He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we’ve seen for
ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior
of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates
continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we’ve
embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.

12. God is Love!
17‐18 God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of
love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run
of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re
free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is
identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well‐
formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—
fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in
love.
19 We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First we were
loved, now we love. He loved us first.
20‐21 If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his
brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love
the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The
command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving
people. You’ve got to love both.

13. Key Notes
1. God’s kind of Love is a value we are incapable of outside of
God.
2. By loving, you show that you are born of God, and you will
experience a relationship with God.
3. Love: Is what God did, when he sent Jesus to die so that we
may have life. The end of this type of love, is the salvation
of the object of our love.
4. We know we abide in Him, and He in us, because he has
given us His Holy Spirit.
5. When we take up residence in a life of Love, we live in God
and God lives in us.
6. Our Standing in the world, is like Christ’s standing in the
world!
7. Love is the cure to fear – of death, of judgment…
8. God first loved us, and in loving Him back, it must manifest
in loving our brethren.
9. Loving God, includes loving people. Do both!

14. God is Love, How about Me?
• 5 1‐2 Watch what God does, and then you do it,
like children who learn proper behavior from
their parents. Mostly what God does is love you.
Keep company with him and learn a life of love.
Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not
cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in
order to get something from us but to give
everything of himself to us. Love like that.
• 3‐4 Don’t allow love to turn into lust, setting off a
downhill slide into sexual promiscuity, filthy
practices, or bullying greed

15. Key Notes
1. Watch what God does, then imitate Him!
2. Imitate God like Children, follow him to the letter.
Remember, being a child allows you to enter.
3. The Key thing that God does, is love you!
4. Keep company with God and learn a life of love – Keep
company with him in Bible Study, in Worship, In Prayer, in
Fellowship with others.
5. How do you see God’s love? Observe how Christ loved.
6. Christ loved – not cautiously but extravagantly.
7. Christ did not love to Get, but he loved to Give everything
of Himself to us. We should love like that.
8. The love is so deep, you need to watch it and not let it
slip into lust and end up sexual and filthy.

16. God is Love! Love is God’s Way!
• Matthew 5:43‐48. Highlight vs 48. You are Kingdom
Subjects. Live generously and graciously towards others the
way God lives toward you.
• Matthew 7:12. Whatever you want men to do for you, do
also to them. Summary of Law and Prophets.
• Matt 7:13‐20 The way to life – to God! – is vigorous and
requires total attention. (You can’t do it passively)
• The prayer of compassion ‐ Labourers (Matthew 9:35‐37)
• Give it the way you have been given. The parable of the
unforgiving servant (Matt 18:21‐35)
• Hierarchy is by service and sacrifice (Matt 20:24‐28)
• Matt 22: 37‐40 the greatest commandment ‐ Love
• Jesus intensifies talks about the end Matt 18 onward. Matt
25:31‐46 – The nations will be judged by their show of love.
• Matt 28:18‐20 Train everyone far and near in this way of
life, instruct them in the practice of all I commanded you.

17. Love
• John 3:16 – God’s motivation for sending Jesus to
die!
• John 13: 12‐17 Do to others, what I have done to
you.
• True test of discipleship is Love John 13: 31‐35.
• Jesus expects our love, demonstrated by obeying
his commandments John 14:15,21
• John 15:9‐17 The full manifestation of love, is in
laying down one’s life for ones friends, and
involving them in one’s project.
• John 17:11, 20, 21,26. Make them one like we are
one.

• God commends book‐keeping, but says the basics
are fairness, compassion and commitment. Matt

entering into that Harvest. And it’s a time of
rejoicing for those who sowed the seed, and
those who reap it.

righteousness and of judgment. John 16:8‐11
