Docker is an open source platform that allows developers and sysadmins to build, ship, and run distributed applications anywhere. It provides portability, standardized environments, and the ability to rapidly scale applications up and down. Many enterprises are using Docker to build continuous delivery pipelines where code commits trigger automated builds and deployment of new Docker containers. This allows applications to be deployed more frequently and consistently across development, testing, and production environments.

Bridging the Gap: from Data Science to Production
A recent but quite common observation in industry is that although there is an overall high adoption of data science, many companies struggle to get it into production. Huge teams of well-payed data scientists often present one fancy model after the other to their managers but their proof of concepts never manifest into something business relevant. The frustration grows on both sides, managers and data scientists.
In my talk I elaborate on the many reasons why data science to production is such a hard nut to crack. I start with a taxonomy of data use cases in order to easier assess technical requirements. Based thereon, my focus lies on overcoming the two-language-problem which is Python/R loved by data scientists vs. the enterprise-established Java/Scala. From my project experiences I present three different solutions, namely 1) migrating to a single language, 2) reimplementation and 3) usage of a framework. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach is presented and general advices based on the introduced taxonomy is given.
Additionally, my talk also addresses organisational as well as problems in quality assurance and deployment. Best practices and further references are presented on a high-level in order to cover all facets of data science to production.
With my talk I hope to convey the message that breakdowns on the road from data science to production are rather the rule than the exception, so you are not alone. At the end of my talk, you will have a better understanding of why your team and you are struggling and what to do about it.

Bridging the Gap: from Data Science to Production
A recent but quite common observation in industry is that although there is an overall high adoption of data science, many companies struggle to get it into production. Huge teams of well-payed data scientists often present one fancy model after the other to their managers but their proof of concepts never manifest into something business relevant. The frustration grows on both sides, managers and data scientists.
In my talk I elaborate on the many reasons why data science to production is such a hard nut to crack. I start with a taxonomy of data use cases in order to easier assess technical requirements. Based thereon, my focus lies on overcoming the two-language-problem which is Python/R loved by data scientists vs. the enterprise-established Java/Scala. From my project experiences I present three different solutions, namely 1) migrating to a single language, 2) reimplementation and 3) usage of a framework. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach is presented and general advices based on the introduced taxonomy is given.
Additionally, my talk also addresses organisational as well as problems in quality assurance and deployment. Best practices and further references are presented on a high-level in order to cover all facets of data science to production.
With my talk I hope to convey the message that breakdowns on the road from data science to production are rather the rule than the exception, so you are not alone. At the end of my talk, you will have a better understanding of why your team and you are struggling and what to do about it.

La crescita veloce è uno degli aspetti più rilevanti dell'economia negli ultimi anni. Startup, scaleup e unicorni sono tutte aziende che, anno su anno, crescono in modo vertiginoso a livello di numeri di business e di persone, facendo scaling dei sistemi IT.
Le aziende "pre native digitali" stanno guardando a queste realtà come a potenziali (o reali) competitor e si stanno organizzando per scalare. Ma un conto è avere una struttura di business nata per scalare, un conto è scalare con un business avviato da almeno 20/30 anni. En mi trabajo es difícil aún introducir los procesos de Testing en Scrum.
Acá se practica la metodología estrictamente, los sprint son de dos semanas y la documentación es casi nula (no existen los casos de uso, y los documentos de requerimientos son escasos), el tiempo para crear casos de prueba es muy poco por lo que decidimos solo crear los de regresión y dedicar mas tiempo a los Criterios de Aceptación (Definition of Done). Utilizamos Jira pero no solo como bugtracker sino también como pizarra de Scrum donde se encuentran las Historias de Usuario (User Story) creadas entre todo el equipo de Scrum en el Sprint Planning. Por el momento las estimaciones de los desarrolladores para bugfixing nunca alcanzaron, y la verificación de bugs de un Sprint se realizan en el próximo. Para nuevos proyectos vamos a probar con Sprints de 3 semanas: 2 de desarrollo, 1 de Testing y bugfixing, así los desarrolladores podrían liberar funcionalidades mas completas (y testeables), estimar mejor el tiempo de testing (somos abiertos al testing exploratorio) y quedaría tiempo para realizar bugfixing. La verificación de bugs seguiría quedando para el próximo sprint.
Devolución ofrecida
No están siendo ágiles.
Si están realizando el testing fuera de la sprint, no están entregando un producto de calidad.
La idea es entregar un incremento TERMINADO: diseñado, desarrollado, probado.
Lamentablemente, así funcionan muchos equipos actualmente.
Es necesario incorporar el Testing dentro de las iteraciones.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain

Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
