admissions and registration activities. Monitors compliance to academic regulations and
standards through formal and informal processes. Provides support to academic units in
compliance matters through providing information, interpretation of policies and guidance on
compliance matters. Assists in the development of performance improvement priorities for
academic units. Prepares written reports to alert the Provost of potential legal or compliance
issues. Provides written recommendations to the Provost for resolution of student concerns and
issues. Coordinates internal activities of the Provost Office to meet academic standards.


Associate Ombudsman for Student Services                                                 2002- 2008
Appointed by the President to serve as the Associate Ombudsman in charge of neutral and
impartial dispute resolution to constituents of the university. Responsible for compilation of
aggregate data of complaints filed for upward feedback when patterns indicate problem areas or
trends. Provide monthly status reports of all resolution activity to be used to identify potential
problems of imminent risk to university, and act as an early warning system. Make appropriate
recommendations for policies or practices that would reduce or eliminate recurring grievances.

Key Challenges, Contributions and Results:

        •   90% success rate in resolving complaints and assisting students with academic and
            administrative issues.
        •   Quantifiable results in resolving issues with legal implications and warding off
            lawsuits. Saved the state costly litigation fees for frivolous lawsuits.
•   Collaborate with departments on development and implementation of strategies and
            cooperative processes for complaint and conflict resolution.
        •   Serve as a resource for university administration in identifying areas in need of
            improvement by raising issues that may surface as a result of a gap between the
            stated goals of the institution and actual practice.
        •   Appointed by President to the Student-Athlete Equity Welfare Committee for NCAA
            compliance.
        •   Appointed as a member of the Customer Service Committee charged with providing
            staff training and maintaining customer satisfaction.

Responsible for providing administrative support at the executive level to the President and Vice
President of the second largest Historically Black University. Managed all incoming and
outgoing “confidential” communication. Processed payroll timesheets for all presidents’ office
staff and student workers. Responsible for providing intervention, mediation and arbitration of
all student and staff issues, and facilitating resolutions on behalf of the President and Vice
President. Assists the Office of Development and the Special Assistant to the president with the
coordination of all executive functions, seminars, president’s scholarship awards and galas.

        •   Established a technology based information system for management of confidential
            records and files.
        •   Chaired various University events and served as a liaison for the President and Vice
            President.
