The Robot Framework is a generic test automation framework for acceptance test-driven development, that appears to be largely neglected.
Undeservedly so, as it facilitates powerful and yet simple test automation against a variety of interfaces.
It features some distinct advantages when compared to seemingly similar frameworks such as Cucumber or Fitnesse.
This workshop is meant to show you what makes the Robot Framework special and what is has to offer you.
Robot Framework is a generic keyword-driven test automation framework for acceptance level testing and acceptance test-driven development (ATDD). It has an easy-to-use tabular syntax for creating test cases and its testing capabilities can be extended by test libraries implemented either with Python or Java. Users can also create new keywords from existing ones using the same simple syntax that is used for creating test cases.

This was a presentation I gave at the IBM-Rational Users Conference on the Rational Robot framework I created to support the creation of automated regression test scripts that could be written by anybody. That's right, anybody. Everybody. I don't think scripting should be the sole purview of the test crowd -- in all actuality, the best people to be creating tests are the actual users and business analysts. Anyway, I believe I succeeded in that task, if only in my own mind. That was back in 2003. Funny, it still works now, despite Rational's best efforts to relegate Robot to living in a van down by the river. That's no way to treat an old, hard-working friend. I don't care how great Rational Functional Tester is, Robot is still a great tool. Mark my words.

Sony R&D Center has been though robotics history and products for years. As robotics platform and Robotics Operating System (ROS) getting matured, there is a requirement to handle the distributed system integration. Using Kubernetes on edge cluster system, there are a lot of advantages such as application lifecycle, deployment and recovery. Also using CNI and ROS Data Distributed System, it can construct distributed system on edge cluster, so that multiple robots can connect directedly and work collaboratively for the specific task. We will share how we can use Kubernetes on edge including deployment robotics application and possible problems based on our experience. Furthermore, we will share our approach to support edge dependent platform with device-plugin to attach hardware resources and even virtual devices which access to the host system such as 3rd party application.
Webinar: "Entitlements: Taking Control of the Big Data Gold Rush"ForgeRock
Information is the new currency and as more “things” come online the volume of data will dramatically increase. Typically, this data is stored in multiple repositories and different personas have different levels of access.
In this webinar, which was recorded on August 18th, 2015, you can learn how to answer key questions to today’s tough challenges:
How do we keep sensitive data, secure it and make it accessible?
How do we manage authorization policies related to this data?
How do we manage entitlements for not only web apps, but also users, devices and things?
ForgeRock’s Senior Software Developer, Andy Forrest, discussed the challenges and solutions surrounding Entitlements.

Emulators as an Emerging Best Practice for API ProvidersCisco DevNet
Modern software leverage a lot of external APIs, which raises several issues: how can development teams safely build and test their software when some components they rely on keep evolving. And what if some of these components are key for the whole software to even fire up. These are some of the challenges faced today by Cisco internal development teams, but also partner and enterprise developers using Cisco's software. The industry proposes two main strategies to circumvent these challenges: API Mocking, and Service Virtualization. Both of these strategies have pro and cons. I came up with the idea of proposing API emulators has a 3rd option. From another perspective, Serverless platforms are recognized to be unique as they are scalable and straightforward to use. It turns out that major industry vendors (Google, Amazon, Microsoft…) have invested to create Emulator as companions to their Serverless platforms, in order to attract, on-board and have developers adopt Serverless platforms. In this talk, I'll explain the motivation behind API emulators, in the perspective of DevOps, CI/CD, Development Processes, and Serverless/Microservices architectures. I'll illustrate the talk with several prototypes: - Mini-Spark: an Emulator for the Cisco Spark API which mimics the execution environment of the Cisco Spark Cloud platform - Tropo-Ready: an Emulator for Tropo Serverless Telephony platform, tied it to Visual Studio Code in order to reach to developer communities I'll dive into the details of the process to create such emulators, and elaborate on the consideration that Emulators are emerging as key components of API providers's strategy.

Amazon FreeRTOS: IoT Operating System for Microcontrollers (IOT208-R1) - AWS ...Amazon Web Services
In this presentation, we take a deeper look at Amazon FreeRTOS. As OEMs work to squeeze more functionality onto cheaper and smaller IoT devices, they face a series of challenges in development and operations that results in security vulnerabilities, inefficient code, compatibility issues, and unclear licensing. With Amazon FreeRTOS, it is now easier to build, deploy, and update connected microcontroller-based devices quickly and economically, while retaining confidence that the devices are secure. Also, learn how Pentair, a leading water treatment company, is developing an IoT solution with the help of Amazon FreeRTOS and Espressif Systems, a hardware partner.
Continuous Integration Best Practices (DEV319-R1) - AWS re:Invent 2018Amazon Web Services
Today, more teams are adopting continuous integration (CI) techniques to enable collaboration, increase agility, and deliver a high-quality product faster. Cloud-based development tools such as AWS CodeCommit and AWS CodeBuild can enable teams to easily adopt CI practices without the need to manage infrastructure. In this session, we showcase best practices for code reviews and continuous integration, drawing on practices used by Amazon engineering teams. We’ll incorporate demos to not just explain the practices but show you how.
We’ve all experienced it: you’re working on a task, adding some code, and then you need to store some sensitive configuration value. It could be an API key, client secret or an encryption key ― something that’s highly sensitive and must be kept secret. And this is where things get messy. Usually, secret storage is highly coupled with how the code is deployed, and different platforms have different solutions.
Kubernetes has a promise to simplify this process by using the native secret object, which, as the name implies, can be used to store secrets or sensitive configurations. Unfortunately, Kubernetes secrets are fundamentally broken, and a developer who tries to use them will definitely have some issues.
But no need to worry ― there are solid alternatives for storing secrets securely on Kubernetes platform. One solution is to use Kamus, an open-source, git-ops solution, that created by Soluto, for managing secrets on Kubernetes. Kamus can encrypt a secret so it can be decrypted only by your app on runtime - and not by anyone else.
The first part of this session will cover the challenges faced when using Kubernetes secrets (from a usability and security point of view). The second part will discuss some of the existing solutions (Sealed Secrets, Helm Secrets and others), their pros, and cons, and then feature Kamus: how it works, what problems it solves, how it differs from other solutions, and what threats it can help mitigate (and what threats it can’t).
The talk will cover all that is required to know so you can run Kamus on your own cluster and use it for secret management. Join me for this session to learn how you can build a Kubernetes cluster than can keep a secret ― for real.
In this presentation I provide a gentle introduction to successful open web protocols such as OpenID, OAuth, Atompub and OpenSocial in terms of what they provide as well as how they can be useful to developers. Presented at the inaugural MSCOSCON 2009 in Malaysia.

It’s all about REST in today’s world. Every service you look at, people are providing a REST API for it. Surprisingly, very few of these API’s are even REST, if we’re talking about REST as in a system that abides by a series of constraints making it RESTful. But the positive note is that it has brought to light the power of HTTP as an application protocol, something very often undervalued and misunderstood, even today.
This talk is going to focus on the core values of HTTP for what it is. It will cover all aspects including
Headers
Error Management
Verbs
Content Negotiation
Caching
Security
Messages
Request and Responses
In essence you'll understand HTTP much better, learn to differentiate an HTTP API from a system with RESTful constraints and also understand benefits of providing REST API - if such a thing were to exist of course!

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

How are you releasing your products today ? Are you releasing with 100% features as planned, requested by your Product owner ? Is your PO happy with every release/every sprint with your deliverables? Do you do User stories ? Do you define Acceptance Criteria? Do you write Acceptance Tests? What are you missing?
Missed communication ?
REAL requirements !
Confusion !
And then it HURTS EVERYONE !
So welcome to the SILVER BULLET – Acceptance Tests ! Really , NO ! Just another arsenal in the toolbox.
Provide a single ‘ubiquitous’ language which is answering – WHAT do you want to BUILD ? And leaves the technical implementation details for another discussion. These Acceptance tests are an agreement with your Product Owner and all stakeholders, and the development team, which can also be “executed” everytime, anytime as soon as they are written and agreed upon. Examples of business scenarios serve as specifications which can be expanded further.
