Long Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT)
Low frequency ultrasonic waves are used to
detect defects and flaws. A set of piezoelectric
transducers transmit the ultrasonic waves in
both directions along the length of the pipe. The
same transducers detect the return signals and
analyze by calibrated system software.
The use of LRUT is the detection of corrosion,
erosion, metal wall loss and other defects in
pipes.
LRUT is suitable for inspection of pipes that are
covered with insulation (wool), under roads or
are buried; a large length of pipe can be
inspected by uncovering a small portion of pipe
(About 1 meter) at a single one location and
inspect pipe 40 meters both the sides.
Scope:
Guided Wave Systems detect pipe wall
thickness changes which generate Reflective
acoustic waves. These sound waves sweep the
entire thickness of the Pipe, the pipe acting as a
wave guide - where the term guided waves
originated. Guided Wave Systems is sorting or
screening NDT tool will classify pipe in
Categories of wall loss levels. Typically guided
waves provide 100% initial pipe wall screening
coverage. At every change in pipe cross-section
thickness a detectable screen indication is noted.
Typical reflectors are pipe bends circumferential
welds, pipe tees, reducers, pipe supports,
