Veteran s Day Dessert Research
Veteran s Day is coming up, and LRMS is hosting their annual Veteran s Day Dessert. Many new
students are confused on the topic, and some students that have been here earlier are confused
on how to explain the topic, so we all bring ourselves to the common question; what is the
Veteran s Day Dessert? The Veteran s Day Dessert is more self explanatory than it seems. It is
hosted every year at Laurel Ridge Middle School on Veteran s Day (unless it s on a weekend),
which this year, will be on Thursday, November 9th, which is the days before Veteran s Day,
which the Titans have off. Coffee, tea, and all kinds of desserts are served. The LRMS band
performs a couple of songs, and there is a recognition program. I asked Sasha D, a student who is

Brief History Of Beer Is The Most Popular Alcoholic...
Brief History of Beer
Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide, and the third most popular drink overall
after water and tea. The average American drinks the equivalent of 38 six packs of beer, a dozen
bottles of wine and two quarts of distilled spirits like gin, rum, single malt Scotch, or vodka a year,
according to the New York Times.
Research has shown that people have been brewing this famous beverage as early as several
thousand years before the Common Era. Recent studies claim that the production and consumption
of beer was a major factor in the development of civilized society, arguing that the important and
often spiritual role beer played in traditional ceremonies and feasts contributed to the development
of ritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Production Understanding how beer is fermented is important to recognize the importance of
several raw ingredients required in the process. Pure water, quality malts and hops are essential
in the brewing process. A source of pure water is necessary to brew good beer. As such, the
water used in brewing is purified to rigidly set standards. If it does not have the proper calcium
or acidic content for maximum activity of the enzymes in the mash, it must be brought up to
that standard. Barley, which is the main raw material in beer, must first be left to begin to
germinate. This process is called malting. This prerequisite stage of production of beer forms an
industry in itself, called the malting industry. During the malting process, the grain is allowed
to germinate with heated water in a vat for a process known as mashing . Then it is spread out in
layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a
kilning process. This beginning of germination is called the malting. During the malting process
the grain is first steeped for approximately three days, then it is spread out in layers for a week to
germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. The
germination process creates a number of enzymes, notably alfa amylase and beta amylase, which
will be used to convert the starch in the grain into sugar. Depending on the amount of roasting, the
malt will take on dark colour and strongly

Building The Berlin Wall
A wall preventing the illegal immigrant from entering the US is like a mother protecting her child
from harm. The United States president Donald Trump wants to build a wall from allowing illegal
immigrants from entering the US for the simple reasons that it would protect the country from the
drug trade, to save the economy and to provide better easier patrolling. Building a wall across the
Mexican border would protect the country against terrorist, drug cartels, diseases and lots
more.According to research Mexican cartels transport the bulk of their drugs over the southwest
border through ports. The amount of Heroin seized at the border increased from 6,191 pounds in
2011 to 8,901 pounds in 2016, methamphetamine went from 1,838 pounds to 8,215 pounds.Drugs

The Medical Uses of Daffodils
The daffodil is very well known for its beauty but it s fairly unknown that it has medicinal
purposes as well. The flower has some questionable side effects but it is often used to induce
vomiting or for working similarly to aloe vera. Daffodils can also be used for diseases such as
cancer or Alzheimer s. It is obvious that the flower is much more than aesthetically pleasing.
Daffodils scientific name is Narcissus pseudonarcissus. They grow at altitudes of sea level up to
0.93 miles above that. The flowers grows wild in the woods or the grasslands and are found in
parks and gardens in the temperate regions (kew.org). These flowers do best in full sun although
they will also grow in partial shade. They are a monocot with six outer petals and the central corona
which is the trumpet or cup for which the daffodil is known (Southern Living). These flowers are
native to northern Europe and have become increasingly popular in North America (Encyclopaedia
Britannica).
Narcissus is harvested when the flowers have overpopulated an area. The bulbs are removed from
the flower and are thinly distributed elsewhere. The daffodils are bred by twin scaling. Twin
scaling is when the bulbs are cut into long segments and are paired off with similar parts until they
are planted. The daffodils are then planted until the cotyledon is visible and then they are often
commercially sold (kew.org).
Daffodils were traditionally used to induce vomiting and as a coolant for burns and wounds. They

Envy In My Last Duchess, Hamlet, And A Room Of One s Own
Envy is most commonly associated with jealousy, greed or even pride. Each trait associated with
the word is followed by a negative connotation which can be found in each of the texts. Envy is
never thought of as being a direct threat to one s sanity or well being or even that of another
person, but in the three texts, My Last Duchess, Hamlet, and A room of One s Own, it can be
concluded that the central idea is that envycan lead a person to commit extreme acts and hinder their
sanity. Browning closes My Last Duchess by establishing that envy can lead a person to commit
extreme acts and hinder their or someone else s sanity. Browning uses characterization to exploit
the character development of the dukeand also enhance how envy can lead... Show more content on

One literary element that emphasizes the difference across the three texts is conflict. In My
Last Duchess, the duke was conflicted because he felt there was an unequal distribution in the
love he was receiving. The duke s main problem was his belief that his love was not valued as it
should and this developed his envy. The envy felt by the duke was directed towards those
around the duchess who also received attention from her. ... I know not how as if she ranked my
gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift... (32 34) Browning s evident
demonstration of the duke s issue with the duchess giving others attention helped construct the
central idea. To contrast, in Hamlet Shakespeare emphasizes the conflict that erupted in response
to the extreme act prompted by envy. Claudius murdered because he was envious and wanted
what his brother, the king, had and when Hamlet discovered this he was distraught and brought
to the brink of madness trying to seek revenge. But howsoever thou pursuest this act, taint not
thy mind... (Act 1, Scene 5) Shakespeare makes sure to detail how Claudius envy led to murder
and its heavy impact on Hamlet and his state of mind. Lastly, in A Room Of One s Own it is
indirectly revealed that the women were envious of the men. Woolf allows leeway while at the
same time asserting that the women were envious due to the circumstances and limitations placed
upon them because of their gender. Unlike the other two stories, the conflict that was unraveled
led to suicides and the loss of sanity between the women instead of those around them. .. a highly
gifted girl who had tried to use her gift for poetry would have been so thwarted and hindered by
other people, so tortured and pulled asunder by her own contrary instincts, that she must have lost
her health and sanity.. (Woolf, 21) In this the central idea was revealed and

Essay about David Katan’s Translating Cultures
Fitzgerald or Fagles?
Translations are essential to us and our culture, because through ancient documents, inscriptions and
books, historians and archeologists reconstruct the ancient societies and civilizations, as well as the
story of our forefathers and the history of the entire human race. They allow communication
between us and different countries and nations, whose language might be different from ours and
this may create difficulties in being able to understand each other. However, translators make this
possible as they are the mediators between two different cultures. The need for translations is
massive, from both a social and political outlook. According to David Katan s Translating Cultures,
The translator is a bilingual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though introductions of both translations of the original Ancient Greek Odyssey by Fitzgerald and
Fagles have many similarities, Fagles is better structured, while Fitzgerald s is more convoluted and
the text is grouped together. For example, one of the more obvious ones is the division into
paragraphs, which in Fagles translation is much more clear and neat in terms of layout; therefore it
is easier to read and to follow. Fitzgerald s translation, by comparison, is not divided into
paragraphs; it is a bit more challenging to read, because there are no subdivisions or titles for
each paragraph which would make the reader understand better what they are going to read about
in that specific section. Nevertheless, through reading both introductions, the reader gets involved
by the plot and the book itself, due to the summary and description of the historical background,
which opens up the story of this famous archetypal hero: Odysseus. The first verses of a
translation are those that tell us the most. In the Odyssey, the first verses are very important
because the bard Homer asks the Muse to inspire him and aid him in narrating the story of the
hero Odysseus but also it plays a key role in the summarizing of the whole narration. Therefore, the
importance of these lines lies in its translation to engage the reader and convey not only Homer s
purpose but also the

Slavery In New Jersey City Essay
No matter what difficulties lay ahead, there was only one goal, to be free. It was the road to
freedom; it was a challenge that needed to be completed. According to The Underground
Railroad in Jersey City written by Carmela Karnoutsos Jersey City was the last station on the
Underground Railroad route through New Jersey. Tens of thousands of fugitive slaves arrived
here from several states, such as Maryland, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. From these
states, they traveled to the Delaware River where they crossed over to New Jersey to continue on
to Jersey City. The crossing of the slaves was in the same area of Jersey City as the Dutch
settlement of New Netherlands at Harsimus, where slavery was introduced in the 1640s. The
effects that Jersey City s underground railroad had on former slaves who... Show more content on

For Jersey City to undergo this event is majorly significant because it is such a small city with
such great history. Slaves/former slaves were traveling the Underground Railroad, the secretive
path of safe houses that led thousands of slaves to freedom in the North before the
Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 implies that
freeing the slaves in certain territories were still against the Union. However, the Emancipation
Proclamation of 1863 did not free all slaves due to the fact that the proclamation did not cover
the states that were slave colonized states. New Jersey alone had as many as four routes, with all
of them coming into Jersey City. Those routes extended from the Mason and Dixon Line and the
Valley of the Ohio on the South, to the Canadian border on the North. Jersey City played a crucial
role in that era being that numerous individuals passed through the city. As the last stop in New
Jersey, even before criminal slaves reached New York; approximately 60,000 escaped slaves
traveled through Jersey

Challenges Of HRM
1.Introduction
1.1Introduction to Total Quality Management
We all have experiences of poor quality service or product with business organizations. Experiences
like in fast food restaurant, burgers customers get are way more different they appeared in the
commercials, or encounter bad customer service when lodging an unhappy purchasing.
These poor services probably happened because employees are not well trained with the problems
faced or they have do not seem to care attitude. Eventually, organizations will start to lost
reputations and affects its business.
Hence, in order to stay competitive in the market, organizations design guide lines to continuously
improve the quality level. These concepts are Total quality management. Meanwhile, as these TQM
are dealing with the processes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These improvements are made by identifying, remove bottlenecks and eliminate irrelevant work
practices. In order to achieve this, HR department needs to become empowered.
For an organization to make improvements, it must consider the external, as well as the internal
and relational based views. TQM affects the process at all levels.
In terms of HRM, it impacts organization s culture; staffing and planning; staff training and policies
development and work practices.
3.2 One challenge face in term of HRM of the Reengineering
When an organization is reviewing the working process, one of the highlighted issues is there are
staffing. In term of the staff issue, it impact the organization overall performance. Therefore, HR
needs to plan on analysing and designing of jobs, hiring the best appropriate employees for the
position and managing staffs.

My article was about a sixteen year old male who killed four people by choosing to drink and
drive. This teen was in court in twenty thirteen, and was pleading that he had affluenza, which
caused the accident. During this court process, he was given ten years probation, which means he
can not drink during his probation, and must check in with his officer. The Teen was found at a
party drinking, so because he had broken his ten year probation deal, he decided to flee. They
attempted to look for his mother and him, but he was nowhere to be found. The policeofficers
looked in the family s million dollar home, and no one was there. His court hearing was about him

American Ideal In The 1950s
Media and suburbs have defined and shaped American ideals in various ways, ranging from the
ideal family structure in America, the ideal appearance and behavior of individuals to the ideal
social arrangement and division in America.
Media defined the America dream as the ability of a family to live in suburbs and follow the gender
specific functions in American society. Through overwhelming representations of suburbia in
media, suburb living was shaped as an American ideal in the 1950s. Media portrays an ideal
American home life as one that involves home ownership in suburbs, which represented social
status, guaranteed family stability and happiness. Therefore, the lives of middle class families in
suburbs have been widely depicted in sitcoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The correlation between race and suburbs in America has been full of tension and exclusivity. In the
1950s, white flight, the migration of white people from city centres into suburbs, leaving behind the
black population in inner cities was common. This has contributed to a distinct spatial division
between the Anglo Americans and African Americans within the America. Being caused by the
existing income disparity, the minority African Americans, having a lower social economic status
in American, are mostly trapped in poverty cycle and are unable to afford housing ownership in
suburbs. Further aggravated by discriminative government policies towards the minorities, social
division within the country was made even more prominent. According to Haralovich, the FHA
implemented several strategies, in hope of establishing community homogeneity and stability.
Protective covenants were proposed to restrict racial mixing within neighborhoods (Haralovich,
1989). Loan applications, accepted if submitted by whites, were rejected when filed by black
families of similar standing whose backgrounds were carefully screened to make sure they were in
fact members of the middle class (Maya MontaГ’ez, 2008). The city split in American was hugely
caused by such deliberate racial separatism. The measures that served to paint homogeneity within
suburban neighborhoods

The Napoleonic Er The Causes Of The Napoleonic Era
The Napoleonic Era can be said to have begun with the Coup of 18 Brumaire, which overthrew the
Directory (and is often believed to have brought the French Revolution to a close), and established
the French Consulate, along with the appointment of Napoleon as First Consul in the winter of
1779. Preceding this time, the French were fighting a loosing battle against the Ottomans
throughout Egypt, Greater Syria, and the Levant. Once Napoleon became the de facto ruler of
France, he began massive reforms. The spread of citizens rights into law began, representative
assembly took hold, religious toleration became the norm, the country was re organized into
departments, and the metric system was invented. Upon becoming First Consul, Napoleon

At this time, France also sold their North American continental holdings to the Americans in the
Louisiana Purchase . Britain cancelled the treaty in May 1803, and war resumed. Europeans
formed seven coalitions between 1792 1815 to defeat French forces. In May of 1804, Bonaparte
had himself declared Emperor, and crowns himself in the company of a (bribed) pope. The
Code Civil became Code Napoleon and Napoleon codified French law into statutes. In 1805, the
bulk of the most noteworthy Napoleonic victories of the Era begin to occur, such as those of
Ulm, Trafalgar (including the death of Lord Nelson), and Austerlitz, resulting in the defeat of the
Holy Roman and the Russian Empire. The Confederation of the Rhine was created at this time
and initially included 16 member states, with Saxony and Westphalia joining later. In 1806,
British marines (temporarily) seize Buenos Aires from Spain, and are expelled by local militias in
1807. Napoleon also begins naming family member to various governmental posts in earnest,
including Joseph to the post of King of Naples. During this time, Prussia joins Britain and Russia,

The Early Childhood Education Of Literacy And Numeracy
Introduction Literacy and numeracy are the most vital skills for any individual in modern
society. The early childhood education of literacy and numeracy is of great importance to not
only intellectual growth but also to emotional and social development in later years. Literacy is
one of the fundamental ability for one to be able to make sense of text, signs, books, and
modern technologies. Numeracy includes aspects such as number sense, computation,
measurement, and geometry, which are all vital to one s daily and professional life. The first
few years of one s life is the key period to establish literacy and numeracy as one s brain
development is at its peak in this period, and the better the foundation of literacy and numeracy is,
the more likely one is going to successful in academic and social performance in later years. Also
as a social experience, literacy and numeracy education is greatly influenced by one s social
environment, or in early childhood settings, one s family environment. Bronfenbrenner s (1979)
ecological systems theory is the foundation of ecological and sociocultural guideline of literacy and
numeracy education in early childhood settings. The theory are essentially a set of interconnected
and yet isomorphic layers of systems that affect the development of the children from a social
aspect, e.g. the microsystem describes the interaction between the carer and the child, mesosystem
describes the interactions between the family and the teacher,

Melting Point Range Lab Report
The first part of the experiment focused on finding the melting point range of known substances,
Trans cinnamic acid and Urea. The Trans cinnamic acid had a melting point range of 133.0
135.8в„ѓ. Urea had a melting point range of 132.5 135.8в„ѓ. However, when a 50/50 mixture was
created of the two substances, the melting pointrange was 98.8 132в„ѓ, 40 degrees less than the two
known substances. This is due to an impurity of the 50/50 mixture. Each substance was acting as an
impurity to the other substance. The expected range for Trans cinnamic acid was 132 135в„ѓ and

A ramp rate was first used to obtain the approximate melting point of the unknown before obtaining
a more accurate melting point range of the unknown substance. Based on the rapid heating rate of
the test, it was determined that the unknown substance was either Trans cinnamic acid or Benzoin
due to the wider melting point range at 132в„ѓ. After the second, slower heating rate, it was
determined that the unknown might be Benzoin due to the wider melting point range. However,
when experimented with the unknown and the Benzoin, the 50/50 mixture melted before the other
2 compounds had begun to change states because it was acting as an impurity instead of melting at
the same time. If the unknown and the possibly known substance were the same compound, those
two compounds plus the mixture would have melted at the same time. The Trans cinnamic acid was
then compared to the unknown substance, which resulted in two compounds and the mixture
melting at the same time, which had a melting point range of 133 to 136.2в„ѓ. According to the
results of the melting point ranges given, the melting point range of Trans cinnamic acid should be
132 135в„ѓ. The experimented results were 133 136.2в„ѓ, which are about a degree higher than
what they should be, but the compounds and the 50/50 mixture all melted at the same time, making

contributions to her genres of music would be that she brought back the teen girls voice for R B.
Due to the fact that when she first started her career she was fifteen years old. Her career started
when she did a cover for the song At your best. By the Isley Brothers. When Aaliyah dropped her
first single Back Forth. It was a hit because Aaliyah was a young talented solo artist. Since she
was a solo artist she was appealed more by a younger audience. Due to the fact that she wasn t
like the older singers such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Another one of Aaliyah s
contributions to music would be that her voice wasn t like everyone else s. Due to the fact that

Descriptive Essay About Pacific Blues
Pacific Blues
The shh, shh, shh of the water shuffling against the stone beach could have been heard from the
road if I stood still, but currently there is a concerto of noise beneath my feet, a deep and rumbling
earthquake shifting the rocks on which I stand with every step I take. It s not just my steps that
create the symphony; behind me is Agathe, standing on the stones and laughing as Quartz slips into
the shallows.
The Australian shepherd doesn t go deep, but her tail wags with the ferocity of a thousand winds
as she darts in and out of the water, rocks slipping around her feet and jaws snapping at the waves
as they rumble against the shore.
Agathe pushes her blonde hair back, and I wonder again why she doesn t simply tie it back if it
annoys her so much.
Beneath my feet, the stones are unlike any I have seen before, each a rounded composite with
shimmering white lines racing through, some having clearly been broken apart recently and others
having little holes in them, as though someone had taken a cookie cutter and peeled a piece away,
leaving behind only the shell.
I kneel among the stone kingdom, and the sound echoes downwards as though I m standing upon
rocks that run a kilometre deep.
My hands trail over their surface, examining and turning until, finally, the need for a photograph
takes over, and I slip my phone from my pocket.
If there s a single thing I ve learned taking pictures of every beautiful thing I see, it s that the
image is never as good as reality,

Since the late 1960 s, the LGBTQ community have started to seek equality towards rights. Even

leader to the respect of the LGBTQ community. The community has received many equality
benefits throughout the year which vary from, same sex marriageto health care. Before 1861 (laws

Social Movements Against Bidding For Sports Mega Events
Social Movements against Bidding for Sport Mega events: A Case Study of the 2024 Summer
Olympics
Introduction
Governments currently show great interest in sport mega events investment since that they may
have the opportunity to stimulate economic development, create international image and prestige,
generate a feel good factor among citizens and inspire grassroots participation (Grix and
Carmichael, 2012). Moreover, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) states that their critical
mission is to promote a positive legacy from the Olympic Games to the host countries
(International Olympic Committee, 2007, p.15), although legacy is hard to define or measure
and could be both positive and negative in practice (Agha, et al. 2012). In particular, emerging
states like China, South Africa and Brazil have managed to bid for the Olympics or the World
Cup. The use of hosting sport mega events to enhance their soft power and achieve equal positions
in global affairs has been highlighted in recent years (Grix and Lee, 2013).
However, the effect of sport mega events has been challenged, questioning whether to host these
events or not (Lauermann, 2015). As Chalip points out, host countries may fail to make
preparations for the staging of sport mega events and encounter the risk of soft disempowerment.
Meanwhile, anti Olympics social campaigns have arisen in many advanced capitalist countries.
Consequently, they have had a considerable influence on the bids for sport mega events

Dog Training Differences
Dogs have been a close companion to humans for thousands of years because of their trainability;
dogs have been trained for hundreds of purposes all across the world. The domestication and
training of dogs is important in the relationship between humans and dogs and is widely varied in
both difficulty and style. Studies show that certain dogs learn easier and more efficiently than
others and these differences are often attributed to the dogs age, breed, sex, and neuter status. Dogs
must learn vital skills as puppies like attentiveness before they can properly learn commands from
humans, but certain cognitive skills deteriorate when they reach old age. Breed also creates a large
difference in the trainability of a dog; overall reactions to training, physical capabilities, and
aggression... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In German Shepherd puppies, Sforzini et al. (2009) found differences in the sexes only in ages
less than one year; once they reached a year of age, the differences disappeared and the sexes
performed similarly. The behaviors the males had that the females had not developed yet included
a positive relationship with attentiveness and a negative relationship with exploring and playing.
While exploration and playing are not necessarily bad behaviors, dogs who have short attention
spans and more interest in their environment will not pay attention to their teacher as much as
male dogs at that age. This difference disappears after a year old, when Sforzini et al. determined
that all dogs are at the height of their trainability. Attentiveness is critical in training dogs of all
ages, as the longer the dog pays attention, the more effectively they can be trained. This shows
that, when training puppies over five months and under a year old, males will be more trainable
than females; once the dogs reach a year of age, they return to being equally

Issue 2: The fact that no one is tracking where the work is and who is supposed to be working on

Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Abuse in Women Essay
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), twenty four people per minute are affected

alone are affected each year. Intimate partner violence includes anything from physical or sexual
abuse to psychological abuse to stalking or threats by a current or former partner. This form of
violence can occur among couples that identify with any sexual orientation. The CDC reports that

(Catalano, 2006) Researchers Smith, Homish, Leonard, and Cornelius admit that it is well
known that a risk factor for intimate partner violence is substance use. (2012) However, we have
a very limited understanding of the association between specific substance use and intimate
partner violence. These researchers set out to bring about a deeper understanding of this. For the
purpose of this study, researchers examined intimate partner violence in the presence of alcohol,
cannabis, cocaine, and opioid use, as well as poly substance use of alcohol and cocaine and
alcohol and marijuana. (Smith, et al., 2012) Further, this study looked at substance use and
intimate partner violence and differentiated between perpetration and victimization. Alcohol and
cocaine use disorders were highly associated with intimate partner perpetration whereas cannabis
and opioid use disorders were more highly associated with intimate partner victimization. (Smith,
et al., 2012) Individuals diagnosed with both an alcohol use disorder and a cannabis use disorder
were reported to have a lower likelihood of intimate partner perpetration compared to having the
diagnosis of any one substance use disorder. Having a poly substance use disorder with the
combination of alcohol and cocaine increased the likelihood of an individual to perpetrate intimate
partner violence. However, if you remove the diagnosis of alcohol use disorder and only have a

Foot Binding Definition
hroughout all the world, individuals go to dramatic lengths to change how they look in order to be
deemed beautiful or more appealing to themselves or others within their society. In some societies
not following through with these practices could affect the way your culture sees you and could
lead you being shunned from your community completely
During the 10th Century onwards, food binding is also known as lotus feet was a common cultural
practice throughout China
At the age of two to eight, female children would undergo the process of foot binding this would
be done by bending/breaking the individuals four small toes underneath the sole of the foot, then
would be wrapped in a tight bandage in order to make the foot appear four inches long The
process of foot binding would take six to ten years to completely reform the foot Animal blood

Executive Summary:
This case presents a scenario where PepsiCo, a company known for its successful acquisitions of
food chains to expand its business, has to weigh its options whether or not to acquire Carts of
Colorado, a merchandiser of mobile food carts and kiosks and California Pizza Kitchen, a big name
in the casual dining segment.

The timing of acquisition by PepsiCo was well planned because the target companies were losing
their market share during that time period and the offer of an acquisition by PepsiCo was accepted
with a hope to drift back into the market.
Consistent with PepsiCo s decentralized structure and the emphasis the firm placed on
entrepreneurial management, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFCeach operated with a great deal of
autonomy. PepsiCo did not interfere in their businesses unless they thought that their interference
was necessary for the strategic growth.
How does Pepsi s corporate strategy create a competitive advantage for them?
Pepsi s corporate strategy was to follow a Related Linked Diversification (mixed related and
unrelated) because there are only limited links between businesses. They went ahead with
expansion through acquiring other firms only when they believed that the product of the target
firm was a complement to their product i.e. the soft drink. The acquisition of Frito Lay also took
place because Pepsi believed that snack chips went well with soda. Similarly, this corporate
relatedness and operational relatedness can be seen in the acquisitions of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and
KFC.
Their practice of letting the managers navigating across the businesses holding different
responsibilities worked well for PepsiCo. This way, transferring

Taking a Look at Surfactant Protein-D
Surfactant protein D (SP D) is a C type lectin which is synthesized in various parts of the body. SP
D plays a key role in the auto immune disorders, lung infections and also helpful in the postnatal
pregnancy. This also plays an active role in the host defense mechanisms. In the host defense
mechanism SP D binds with various micro organisms and other particles that enter the human body
and act against them. In our present study we targeted on the interactions of surfactant proteinD with
the lipidmolecules where their interaction plays an important role in the defense mechanism. In our
study lipid molecules were docked against the SP D protein and interaction studies were carried out.
Mutations were generated at sites F335G and R343V and interactions of the lipids with the mutated
protein molecules were studied. Among the wild and the mutant protein molecules, mutant protein
F335G showed highest interaction with the lipid molecule distearoylphosphatidylcholine with
cDocker energy of 94.726. These studied showed that mutant molecules are showing highest
binding with the lipid molecules when compared to the wild protein molecule. Among all ligand
molecules chosen, distearoylphosphatidylcholine showed highest interaction followed by
dilaurylphosphatidylcholine, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine with tocopherol showing the least
binding affinity with both wild and the mutant protein molecules.

Christmas Persuasive Essay
Every Christmas, while you settle down around the fireplace with hot chocolate and candy canes,
do you ever think about the 100 million people living outside? I bet you don t.
I believe that we take advantage of our snowy season. As we rush into shops to get our gifts for
our loved ones, we can only think of joy, family gatherings, food, presents. But in the UK, 2016
studies show that more than a quarter of a million are found to be homeless, and dread this period
of the year.
Some of us dream about having a white Christmas, but as the temperature drops and you re
homeless, Christmas is the worst time of all. You re hungry, cold, and lonely. You have nowhere
to go, and people look at you as if you re dirt. December, January and February are the darkest and
coldest months of the year. For you, it means turning up your heating, putting on an extra layer of
clothing, or making more fires. But for anyone living on the streets, it is horrid. They don t have a
roof above their heads, or a warm blanket to snuggle into. We only know how cold the day gets, but
imagine the nights! The noise, the weather, the dangers... nothing is safe.
Most humans believe that all homeless are drinkers, rude, and abusive, and while that may be true
in some cases, many just have mental issues or post traumatic shock from something that may
have happened in the past. Too many are ill, and we are letting them die. Here is a real story about

Different Views On Economic Issues

There are many advantages to the Supply Side Economics and the first one is Lower Taxes.
Lowering taxes is one of the main bases and ideas for the supply side economics. By having the
lowering of taxes it will provide an incentive to earn more by allowing people to keep more of their
well earned money. Also, another huge advantage of the supply side economics is that it urges
the claim that high marginal tax rates encourage individuals to shelter their money from taxes.
Also, if they were to cut tax rates investors will be able to take some extra out and invest it into
other things that will allow them to make even more money. Although, there are many
advantages to having Supply Side economics there are also many weaknesses that the policy
possesses. The first weakness is the reduction of unemployment benefits, if the economists were
to cut the tax rate then it would make it harder for those who are unable to work to get their
unemployment checks and will force them to try and find work. Cutting taxes would make life
easier for those have more, and harder for those who have less. The Supply Side Economy is
mostly a huge advantage for the rich and a huge disadvantage for the poor, because they are not
able to receive lots from unemployment due to the government not receiving lots of money in
taxes. Demand Side Economics is a belief that the consumers demand for goods and services is the
force that affects most economic actions and is the reasons for short term

Existential Crisis In Hamlet
In Shakespeare s Hamlet, we are presented with a young man torn asunder after the sudden
demise of his father. There is a point in the play where Hamlet vocalizes his feelings of
displacement and loss within his world. The To be, or not to be monologue plunges the
audience into the confused psyche of Hamlet, allowing us to empathize with Hamlet s
existential crisis. This window into Hamlet s dilemma strikes the audience, it is relatable in that
we all face moments in our lives where we stand back and question our socially and self imposed
roles. The ramblings of Hamlet echo through history, and those same sentiments can be felt to
this day. The true comparison lies in how we handle these tribulations. Kafka, Franz, and
Joachim Neugroschel. The Passenger. The Metamorphosis, in the Penal Colony, and Other
Stories: With Two New Stories. 1st Scribner pbk. fiction ed., New York, Simon Schuster, 2000,
pp. 40 41. In Kafka s The Passenger we are presented with an allegorical story about a person on
a trolley car, watching as life passes. In the introduction I stand on the platform of the trolley car
and am completely insecure about my footing in this world in this city, in my family. Nor could
I indicate even casually what demands I might rightfully make in any direction... we have the
entire basis of this short story. Kafka puts to words the feelings of his and his generation,
feelings of being out of place in a rapidly changing world. Shakespeare and Kafka both abided in
time periods that we re seeing social changes occurring. Shakespeare may have used Hamlet to
vocalize his feelings about being out of place in his world. Kafka used his short story The
Passenger to put to words his feelings of displacement and unfamiliarity with the world around
him. Hamlet s To be, or not to be monologue and Kafka s The Passenger show similar feelings of
confusion and disassociation from their specific worlds. Hamlet debates life and death, action vs
inaction, suffering, an inability to choose a direction; Kafka skips the debate and delves directly to
the heart of the issue, a complete insecurity with no direction in the world. Munch, Edvard. Evening

Sustainable Construction Of Sustainable Building
Sustainable building
Introduction
As concerns of climate change and global warming rises, reducing the impact on environment and
human health have became the priorities to consider before the construction of buildings.
Therefore, the concept of sustainable building (also known as green building, green
construction)was brought up, aiming to create structures which is environmentally responsible and
source efficient during its lifespan. [1] Compared to conventional buildings, sustainable buildings
are advantageous from many aspects, such as durability, comfort, security, productivity and
economy.
During the construction of sustainable building, the use of renewable energy can be a significant
issue. Compared to conventional energy, renewable energy can benefit from many aspects.
By utilization of renewable energy , more nature resources can be conserved and restored, such as
solar power, wind ,biomass, etc. The renewable generate much less or even no pollution to the
nature environment. For example, a solar powered air conditioning system generate no HCFCs,
CFs released by conventional air conditioning, causing depletion to ozone layer. Due to less energy
consumed, the operating cost can be reduced efficiently. Furthermore, occupant comfort and health
will be improved with a green and livable living/working place.
In next section, a building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) would be introduced systematically,
which make a good utilization of solar power in sustainable

Cooperation And Altruism Is What Largely Divides Humans...
Cooperation and altruism is what largely divides humans from other animals. While some
primate and certain other species do seem to show some precursors to these types of behaviors,
none come close to the ability of humans to help each other. Much of this has to do with our
ability to act unselfishly despite the fact that in the short term being selfish would be more
beneficial. Some groups take this to the extreme like the Hutterites who live in a society where
everyone works to serve others. In his book The Origins of VirtueMatt Ridley claims that we are all
Hutterites at heart (38). However, this does not actually seem to be true the majority of the time. In
fact, more often and not, we act selfishly if we can get away with it without any repercussions. One
of the strongest bits of evidence against this statement comes from experiments in children that
show that very young children are more likely to act selfishly instead of altruistically. Additionally,
game theorystudies have shown that people are overall more selfish when they are anonymous
compared to when their actions and decisions are being watched. This would seem to indicate
Hutterite s beliefs are not so central to our lives. At the same time, these studies also show that
people are not as selfish as would be expected if they were only looking out for their benefit. And
there are plenty of instances where a person goes out of their way to help a complete stranger.
Overall, I think Ridley s claim is mostly

of our awareness, but can be called into working memory to be used. Some of this information is
fairly easy to recall, while other memories are much more difficult to access. In long term memory,
Tulving (1972, 2000) has proposed the existence of three kinds of long term memory storage, which
have different properties, and based on different brain mechanisms. The three long term memory
storage are; procedural memory, semantic memory and episodic memory.
Procedural memory is used to storage the memory of movement and skills, such as writing, cook

Severity of Impact The severity of the impact is considered medium. If user application
performance is negatively affected, the users will not be able to meet their daily expected
workload. In other words, users will not be able to complete their assigned tasks timely.
Risk Response This issue can be mitigated by deploying additional server resources to support
the end users. To improve performance, a group of users would be moved back to the original vpn

the amount of additional server resources needed can be projected and deployed to support the
total user load. Once these additional server resources have been deployed, migration of users back

Christmas Nativity Scene Analysis
Most Christians grew up associating the nativity scene with Christmas, so it is hard to imagine
that the first nativity scene only appeared about 800 years and more than 1200 years after the birth
of Christ. According to the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the story of the first nativity scene is actually
an important reminder that we are called to be good stewards
December is filled with holiday cheer, fancy parties and cocktails, shopping trips and expensive
treats, street decorated, and Christmas trees display. Even for me! I love having the fun that comes
with the season, but not without my wallet or my bank account paying the prize; someone tell me I
m not alone on this! Anyone?
Walking alone Prospect Pack on Monday, I saw one of the biggest Christmas trees around the
borough with the Nativity scene, status of the three wise men, a camel and a donkey all parts of
the scene with about 35 foot balsam fir alongside the creche. You don t need to be religious, to
appreciate the Nativity display or the message of the scene; but what about the display
Christmas nativity is probably one of the most recognizable symbols of the Christmas season.
According to an article by the Compelling truth Ministry, the word Nativity is from the Latin word
Nativus, which means arisen by birth. Nativities are art, models, carvings, or live demonstrations
depicting the night of Jesus birth. These scenes generally contain the same elements: the Christ

Solution for Air Pollution
2 March, 2008
The Solution for Air Pollution
Society as a whole faces many environmental problems, and as a result, environmental awareness
tends to be a pressing issue. Every day, people recycle cans, glass bottles, and newspapers. Many
people buy bottled water, or own filters for their tap water, as a health precaution from the
pollutants in normal everyday drinking water. Air pollutionis perhaps the biggest environmental
issue the Earth is facing. Automobiles are responsible for a notable amount of the air pollution
problem. Of course, on the other hand so are factories. If the fight against air pollution were to be
taken to a higher level, putting pressure on factories that produce air pollution will have a greater

There are many practical, cost effective measures that can be taken to reduce the emissions of air
pollutants, including the adoption of energy conservation measures and switching to natural gas.
Many existing Clean Air Act programs, such as the acid rain program, and the ground level ozone
smog programs, if properly implemented, will do much to reduce the concentration of fine
particles by controlling the pollutants. These give a hopeful outlook that the air pollution problem
can cease to exist in the severe form that it now does, and with the support of not only
governmental agencies and non profit organizations, but also the help of everyday citizens, the
problem can be overcome in no time.
The air that people breathe everyday is critical to the very existence of not only civilization, but
also the entire Earth; therefore, taking care of it should be a priority to everyone that inhabits it.
A commitment needs to be made by all. It is not necessary for everyone to be radical protesters
against factories and automobile manufacturers, but if everyone were to get involved, even in the
slightest way, such as carpooling to work, the air that is inhaled by all as a matter of survival
would be increasingly cleaner. The air pollution created by these factories is dangerous to the
environment and to the health of people everywhere. Industrial air pollution is

The Rising Increase of the College Drop Out Rate
The Rising Increase of the College Drop Out Rate
Less than two thirds of those who start college in America finish. The almost fifty percent that don
t finish college drop out for various reasons such as financial issues, family issues, maturity, lack of
self motivation and distractions. Some even feel as though college is scam, making us rack up debt
to try and get a well paying job just to pay off their accumulated debt.
The top reason leading to most drop outs is financial issues. Most people in America can t afford
to pay for college on their own and need the help of grants or aids. The government makes it very
difficult to obtain financial aid with such strict criteria that has to be met to be able to sufficiently

The professors aren t down the throats of their students either. The professors are not telling
students to do their work and pushing them; they re getting paid regardless, fail or pass. If the
student fail that benefits them, they then are getting paid again to teach the student the same
material over again. Having a decline in outside motivation mixing with the student s own personal
lack of motivation really takes a plummet on the student school wise.
Also a lot of students get caught up in the partying which poses as a huge distraction to students.
There are constantly parties on big universities which draws the attention of the student off
schooling. They lose their own desire and push to do their school work and allow themselves to get
distracted by what s going on around them.
Some students even get caught up in drugs, especially the ever so popular drug marijuana.
Marijuana which leaves most people feeling fatigue and lazy has a huge impact on the student s
performance. All of this can take the student away from their schooling and doing their work which
would result in them doing badly in classes leaving them feeling hopeless in classes causing them
to drop out.
All of this mixing in with some people honestly just do not have the maturity level for college.

Greed In The Poem Hotel California
In the lyric poem Hotel California by The Eagles, the speaker tells the story of a man
succumbing to greed and self temptation and how he is forever trapped by that greed in a place
that is impossible to leave and go back to where he was before. The poem uses the poetic device
of symbolism by using the hotel as a place where one goes when trapped by their greed. Once the
man has experienced what he wants, he is trapped in a place he cannot leave, shown as a hotel
that is impossible to leave in the poem. He begins conflicted about being greedy, ends up enjoying
it, but then figures out he s trapped forever by it.
The poem begins by telling the story of the man riding down a road when he sees a light in the
distance. He sees a girl standing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in our greed. We are all just prisoners here, of our own device, (The Eagles stanza 4, line 3). The
second to last stanza of the poem describes the man trying to escape of his greed. It says he is
running for the door, trying to get back to the place he was before. He has realized how badly
his greed has ruined his life and tries to go back to being the normal man he was previously. But
once people have experienced greediness and what they wanted, it is impossible to get out of the
trap they buried themselves in. The poem states that ...You can check out any time you like, But
you can never leave! (The Eagles stanza 5, lines 7 and 8). It is impossible to leave the place your

called Black Friday, during this event stores and companies dramatically reduce the price of their
items. The consumer that is brave enough to face crowds and long lines might save enough money
on purchases to make getting up early worth it. The gun industry and accessories broke record
sales during this last Black Fridayevent (Smith, 2017). Alien Gear is one of the newest companies
to emerge in the conceal carry holster industry. In following pages the Alien Gear background will
be discussed, explore the market strategy, examine social and ethical issues, and describe the
strategy addressing these concerns.
Background
When it comes to concealed carry holster options in the past there were only a few companies out
there. In 2013, Thomas Tedder entered the conceal holster industry with his company Alien Gear (

Equally important, they can require the customer to input their conceal carry permit number into
their check out procedures. This step would require the company to check with the customer s
state before mailing out the holster. State officials with stricter conceal carry policies would
encourage this partnership because it could reduce the number of people illegally carrying a
firearm. To increase the chance of internationally sales Alien Gear can look at doing a direct
investment in that host country. The direct investment would have Alien Gear investing or owning
in a foreign subsidiary (Kerin et al., 2016). Alien Gear could also go the route of licensing by
allowing a host country to use their patient and make their product in that country. They would
receive a portion of the sales and it would save them on production and transportation

Literature Review
In order to examine whether economic development can be accelerated in low developed countries
it important to define and identify the characteristics of Economic Development. Economic
development is significantly more advanced than economic growth. It is more relevant to
measuring improvements in the quality of life in developing nations. Economic development is
also concerned with literacy rates, life expectancy, poverty rates and structural changes in the
economy.
According to Todaro Smith 2011, Economic Development can be specified into three objectives
of development. The first is Sustaining Goods and Services ; this objective is the increase in
supply of goods and services, which also widens the distribution of basic needs such as food
shelter, health and protection. The second is An Increase in Income ; this objective is to increase
the standard of living, jobs, improved education and better attention to cultural values. All these
factors enhance material well being, individual and national self esteem. The third and final is the
Freedom to Make Economic and Social Choices , this objective is to increase the range of

The Three Levels of Obedience to Maria Montessori
The Three Levels of Obedience
Julia B. Kulakowski
Montessori Institute of San Diego
The three levels of obedience are explained by Dr. Maria Montessori after long observations of
children of multiple ages in her classroom. She defines the three of obedience as first, an ability to
obey, but not all the time. Secondly an ability to obey at all times after developing their own will.
Finally being able to obey consistently, moreover to follow another person which the child has
deemed superior to them self. Obedience is commonly defined as acting in accordance with the will
of another person. She determined that children have an inherent force within them, termed Horme:
a vital internal impulse to act upon ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further still is the third level of obedience in which the child not only obeys with consistency,
but also finds in another person (typically an adult) superiority and follows, unfaltering, the other
persons will. The child has reached total control over their own will and trusts the adult
implicitly. Dr. Montessori has explained with examples of the Silence Game as a means of
measuring this final level obedience. In her explanation she explores how not only do the
children obey the signal given for the game (writing Silence on the blackboard), but know before
the teacher has even completed writing the S what is coming and immediately go silent. It only
takes one child s first movement to stop what they are doing and the rest of the class almost
instantaneously quiets. She also explains how it involves the cooperation of the entire group.
Without collectively becoming silent the game is not won. This development takes practice on
the part of the child and discipline in restraining oneself on the part of the Guide. The trust
created during this development creates a different form of responsibility. In this level of
obedience the responsibility of the Guide is exponentially increased as her first movement is not
only witnessed, but implicitly obeyed. This responsibility must be felt and respected by the Guide.
For (Montessori, 1995) she must be cautious not to exploit for her own ends so selfless a
dedication (p. 262). This game and

United Kingdom And There Westminster System Essay
Most countries have a written constitution, which is a single document that delivers straightforward
principles that practise public power and how they exercise that public power. Furthermore, it offers
techniques and procedures of how the constitutional rules are enforced and how they can be
changed. For New Zealand, we follow the United Kingdom and there Westminster system, as our
constitutionin unwritten . New Zealand s constitution has always gained controversy, but the fact
of the matter is we do have a constitution even if it s not documented or compiled into one
document as a whole. It is a very important aspect of New Zealand s history and it is what shapes
today s society. This essay seeks to examination what a constitution in general terms is, what New
Zealand s constitution consists of, how the monarch or head of state links directly to New Zealand
s constitution and connections with the government, what republicans believe in and what a
republican society looks like from countries that live in it, explanations of a democracy, and lastly
the effects of what would happen regarding the constitution, government, and society if there was a
decision made to abolish the monarch in New Zealand.
Public power and the power of the state or government is what a constitution is about. It explains
the key foundations of government, shapes their major powers, and regulates the exercising of
those particular powers. While many, if not all constitutions from around the world

The Freedom Of Bear Arms
One major issue in the United States today is the freedom to bear arms. There are split beliefs on
this issue. Some people are against people being permitted to have a firearm because guns kill
people. Other people are for being permitted to have a firearm because guns do not kill people on
their own. It is the person behind the gun pulling the trigger that kills a person. In this paper, I will
discuss both sides of this huge, nationwide issue.
The founding fathers, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas
Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington, were the men that were the first to discuss
about this resolution. Here are a select few of their thoughts on gun control, A free people ought to
be armed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that we citizens should be permitted to hold a firearm and it shall not be taken or
confiscated from us.
Aaron Weiss, a combat veteran of Iraq, now a law enforcement officer, had some strong words to
say about the Safe Act and about people and their rights. He states, I gave up a lot for this
country, including my youth, and better men then me gave up a whole lot more so that all of
you, myself included, can enjoy the rights that are guaranteed to us in our Constitution and Bill
of Rights. We didn t go through all of that to come back and watch you surrender what we fought
for happen based off of the demented acts of two mad men. He is pretty much stating that our
rights and freedom should not be taken away just because of stupid people. Aaron is a strong
supporter of being aloud to have a firearm. For example, what would happen if you and your
family were at home, someone broke into your house, they had a gun, and you did not? It would
be a lot easier for the burglar to get away because he would not be scared of you as much. Now
let us say you do have a gun. That changes everything because either the burglar would be more
scared of you and would try to hurry up and escape, or if he was a real psychopath, he might try to
shoot at you and your family.
People should have the right to carry a firearm everywhere they go, as long as they have a permit
with them. My English teacher, Mr.

  • 2. Veteran s Day Dessert Research Veteran s Day is coming up, and LRMS is hosting their annual Veteran s Day Dessert. Many new students are confused on the topic, and some students that have been here earlier are confused on how to explain the topic, so we all bring ourselves to the common question; what is the Veteran s Day Dessert? The Veteran s Day Dessert is more self explanatory than it seems. It is hosted every year at Laurel Ridge Middle School on Veteran s Day (unless it s on a weekend), which this year, will be on Thursday, November 9th, which is the days before Veteran s Day, which the Titans have off. Coffee, tea, and all kinds of desserts are served. The LRMS band performs a couple of songs, and there is a recognition program. I asked Sasha D, a student who is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Brief History Of Beer Is The Most Popular Alcoholic... Brief History of Beer Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide, and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. The average American drinks the equivalent of 38 six packs of beer, a dozen bottles of wine and two quarts of distilled spirits like gin, rum, single malt Scotch, or vodka a year, according to the New York Times. Research has shown that people have been brewing this famous beverage as early as several thousand years before the Common Era. Recent studies claim that the production and consumption of beer was a major factor in the development of civilized society, arguing that the important and often spiritual role beer played in traditional ceremonies and feasts contributed to the development of ritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Production Understanding how beer is fermented is important to recognize the importance of several raw ingredients required in the process. Pure water, quality malts and hops are essential in the brewing process. A source of pure water is necessary to brew good beer. As such, the water used in brewing is purified to rigidly set standards. If it does not have the proper calcium or acidic content for maximum activity of the enzymes in the mash, it must be brought up to that standard. Barley, which is the main raw material in beer, must first be left to begin to germinate. This process is called malting. This prerequisite stage of production of beer forms an industry in itself, called the malting industry. During the malting process, the grain is allowed to germinate with heated water in a vat for a process known as mashing . Then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. This beginning of germination is called the malting. During the malting process the grain is first steeped for approximately three days, then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. The germination process creates a number of enzymes, notably alfa amylase and beta amylase, which will be used to convert the starch in the grain into sugar. Depending on the amount of roasting, the malt will take on dark colour and strongly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Medical Uses of Daffodils The daffodil is very well known for its beauty but it s fairly unknown that it has medicinal purposes as well. The flower has some questionable side effects but it is often used to induce vomiting or for working similarly to aloe vera. Daffodils can also be used for diseases such as cancer or Alzheimer s. It is obvious that the flower is much more than aesthetically pleasing. Daffodils scientific name is Narcissus pseudonarcissus. They grow at altitudes of sea level up to 0.93 miles above that. The flowers grows wild in the woods or the grasslands and are found in parks and gardens in the temperate regions (kew.org). These flowers do best in full sun although they will also grow in partial shade. They are a monocot with six outer petals and the central corona which is the trumpet or cup for which the daffodil is known (Southern Living). These flowers are native to northern Europe and have become increasingly popular in North America (Encyclopaedia Britannica). Narcissus is harvested when the flowers have overpopulated an area. The bulbs are removed from the flower and are thinly distributed elsewhere. The daffodils are bred by twin scaling. Twin scaling is when the bulbs are cut into long segments and are paired off with similar parts until they are planted. The daffodils are then planted until the cotyledon is visible and then they are often commercially sold (kew.org). Daffodils were traditionally used to induce vomiting and as a coolant for burns and wounds. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Envy In My Last Duchess, Hamlet, And A Room Of One s Own Envy is most commonly associated with jealousy, greed or even pride. Each trait associated with the word is followed by a negative connotation which can be found in each of the texts. Envy is never thought of as being a direct threat to one s sanity or well being or even that of another person, but in the three texts, My Last Duchess, Hamlet, and A room of One s Own, it can be concluded that the central idea is that envycan lead a person to commit extreme acts and hinder their sanity. Browning closes My Last Duchess by establishing that envy can lead a person to commit extreme acts and hinder their or someone else s sanity. Browning uses characterization to exploit the character development of the dukeand also enhance how envy can lead... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One literary element that emphasizes the difference across the three texts is conflict. In My Last Duchess, the duke was conflicted because he felt there was an unequal distribution in the love he was receiving. The duke s main problem was his belief that his love was not valued as it should and this developed his envy. The envy felt by the duke was directed towards those around the duchess who also received attention from her. ... I know not how as if she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift... (32 34) Browning s evident demonstration of the duke s issue with the duchess giving others attention helped construct the central idea. To contrast, in Hamlet Shakespeare emphasizes the conflict that erupted in response to the extreme act prompted by envy. Claudius murdered because he was envious and wanted what his brother, the king, had and when Hamlet discovered this he was distraught and brought to the brink of madness trying to seek revenge. But howsoever thou pursuest this act, taint not thy mind... (Act 1, Scene 5) Shakespeare makes sure to detail how Claudius envy led to murder and its heavy impact on Hamlet and his state of mind. Lastly, in A Room Of One s Own it is indirectly revealed that the women were envious of the men. Woolf allows leeway while at the same time asserting that the women were envious due to the circumstances and limitations placed upon them because of their gender. Unlike the other two stories, the conflict that was unraveled led to suicides and the loss of sanity between the women instead of those around them. .. a highly gifted girl who had tried to use her gift for poetry would have been so thwarted and hindered by other people, so tortured and pulled asunder by her own contrary instincts, that she must have lost her health and sanity.. • 7. Essay about David Katan’s Translating Cultures Fitzgerald or Fagles? Translations are essential to us and our culture, because through ancient documents, inscriptions and books, historians and archeologists reconstruct the ancient societies and civilizations, as well as the story of our forefathers and the history of the entire human race. They allow communication between us and different countries and nations, whose language might be different from ours and this may create difficulties in being able to understand each other. However, translators make this possible as they are the mediators between two different cultures. The need for translations is massive, from both a social and political outlook. According to David Katan s Translating Cultures, The translator is a bilingual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though introductions of both translations of the original Ancient Greek Odyssey by Fitzgerald and Fagles have many similarities, Fagles is better structured, while Fitzgerald s is more convoluted and the text is grouped together. For example, one of the more obvious ones is the division into paragraphs, which in Fagles translation is much more clear and neat in terms of layout; therefore it is easier to read and to follow. Fitzgerald s translation, by comparison, is not divided into paragraphs; it is a bit more challenging to read, because there are no subdivisions or titles for each paragraph which would make the reader understand better what they are going to read about in that specific section. Nevertheless, through reading both introductions, the reader gets involved by the plot and the book itself, due to the summary and description of the historical background, which opens up the story of this famous archetypal hero: Odysseus. The first verses of a translation are those that tell us the most. In the Odyssey, the first verses are very important because the bard Homer asks the Muse to inspire him and aid him in narrating the story of the hero Odysseus but also it plays a key role in the summarizing of the whole narration. Therefore, the importance of these lines lies in its translation to engage the reader and convey not only Homer s purpose but also the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to The Underground Railroad in Jersey City written by Carmela Karnoutsos Jersey City was the last station on the Underground Railroad route through New Jersey. Tens of thousands of fugitive slaves arrived here from several states, such as Maryland, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. From these states, they traveled to the Delaware River where they crossed over to New Jersey to continue on to Jersey City. The crossing of the slaves was in the same area of Jersey City as the Dutch settlement of New Netherlands at Harsimus, where slavery was introduced in the 1640s. For Jersey City to undergo this event is majorly significant because it is such a small city with such great history. Slaves/former slaves were traveling the Underground Railroad, the secretive path of safe houses that led thousands of slaves to freedom in the North before the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 implies that freeing the slaves in certain territories were still against the Union. However, the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 did not free all slaves due to the fact that the proclamation did not cover the states that were slave colonized states. New Jersey alone had as many as four routes, with all of them coming into Jersey City. Those routes extended from the Mason and Dixon Line and the Valley of the Ohio on the South, to the Canadian border on the North. Jersey City played a crucial role in that era being that numerous individuals passed through the city. • 11. American Ideal In The 1950s Media and suburbs have defined and shaped American ideals in various ways, ranging from the ideal family structure in America, the ideal appearance and behavior of individuals to the ideal social arrangement and division in America. Media defined the America dream as the ability of a family to live in suburbs and follow the gender specific functions in American society. Through overwhelming representations of suburbia in media, suburb living was shaped as an American ideal in the 1950s. Media portrays an ideal American home life as one that involves home ownership in suburbs, which represented social status, guaranteed family stability and happiness. Therefore, the lives of middle class families in suburbs have been widely depicted in sitcoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The correlation between race and suburbs in America has been full of tension and exclusivity. In the 1950s, white flight, the migration of white people from city centres into suburbs, leaving behind the black population in inner cities was common. This has contributed to a distinct spatial division between the Anglo Americans and African Americans within the America. Being caused by the existing income disparity, the minority African Americans, having a lower social economic status in American, are mostly trapped in poverty cycle and are unable to afford housing ownership in suburbs. Further aggravated by discriminative government policies towards the minorities, social division within the country was made even more prominent. According to Haralovich, the FHA implemented several strategies, in hope of establishing community homogeneity and stability. Protective covenants were proposed to restrict racial mixing within neighborhoods (Haralovich, 1989). Loan applications, accepted if submitted by whites, were rejected when filed by black families of similar standing whose backgrounds were carefully screened to make sure they were in fact members of the middle class (Maya MontaГ’ez, 2008). • 12. The Napoleonic Er The Causes Of The Napoleonic Era The Napoleonic Era can be said to have begun with the Coup of 18 Brumaire, which overthrew the Directory (and is often believed to have brought the French Revolution to a close), and established the French Consulate, along with the appointment of Napoleon as First Consul in the winter of 1779. Preceding this time, the French were fighting a loosing battle against the Ottomans throughout Egypt, Greater Syria, and the Levant. Literacy is one of the fundamental ability for one to be able to make sense of text, signs, books, and modern technologies. A ramp rate was first used to obtain the approximate melting point of the unknown before obtaining a more accurate melting point range of the unknown substance. Based on the rapid heating rate of the test, it was determined that the unknown substance was either Trans cinnamic acid or Benzoin due to the wider melting point range at 132в„ѓ. After the second, slower heating rate, it was determined that the unknown might be Benzoin due to the wider melting point range. However, when experimented with the unknown and the Benzoin, the 50/50 mixture melted before the other 2 compounds had begun to change states because it was acting as an impurity instead of melting at the same time. If the unknown and the possibly known substance were the same compound, those two compounds plus the mixture would have melted at the same time. The Trans cinnamic acid was then compared to the unknown substance, which resulted in two compounds and the mixture melting at the same time, which had a melting point range of 133 to 136.2в„ѓ. According to the results of the melting point ranges given, the melting point range of Trans cinnamic acid should be 132 135в„ѓ. Descriptive Essay About Pacific Blues Pacific Blues The shh, shh, shh of the water shuffling against the stone beach could have been heard from the road if I stood still, but currently there is a concerto of noise beneath my feet, a deep and rumbling earthquake shifting the rocks on which I stand with every step I take. It s not just my steps that create the symphony; behind me is Agathe, standing on the stones and laughing as Quartz slips into the shallows. The Australian shepherd doesn t go deep, but her tail wags with the ferocity of a thousand winds as she darts in and out of the water, rocks slipping around her feet and jaws snapping at the waves as they rumble against the shore. Agathe pushes her blonde hair back, and I wonder again why she doesn t simply tie it back if it annoys her so much. Beneath my feet, the stones are unlike any I have seen before, each a rounded composite with shimmering white lines racing through, some having clearly been broken apart recently and others having little holes in them, as though someone had taken a cookie cutter and peeled a piece away, leaving behind only the shell. I kneel among the stone kingdom, and the sound echoes downwards as though I m standing upon rocks that run a kilometre deep. My hands trail over their surface, examining and turning until, finally, the need for a photograph takes over, and I slip my phone from my pocket. If there s a single thing I ve learned taking pictures of every beautiful thing I see, it s that the image is never as good as reality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) states that their critical mission is to promote a positive legacy from the Olympic Games to the host countries (International Olympic Committee, 2007, p.15), although legacy is hard to define or measure and could be both positive and negative in practice (Agha, et al. 2012). There is a point in the play where Hamlet vocalizes his feelings of displacement and loss within his world. The To be, or not to be monologue plunges the audience into the confused psyche of Hamlet, allowing us to empathize with Hamlet s existential crisis. This window into Hamlet s dilemma strikes the audience, it is relatable in that we all face moments in our lives where we stand back and question our socially and self imposed roles. The ramblings of Hamlet echo through history, and those same sentiments can be felt to this day. The true comparison lies in how we handle these tribulations. Kafka, Franz, and Joachim Neugroschel. While some primate and certain other species do seem to show some precursors to these types of behaviors, none come close to the ability of humans to help each other. Much of this has to do with our ability to act unselfishly despite the fact that in the short term being selfish would be more beneficial. Some groups take this to the extreme like the Hutterites who live in a society where everyone works to serve others. In his book The Origins of VirtueMatt Ridley claims that we are all Hutterites at heart (38). However, this does not actually seem to be true the majority of the time. In fact, more often and not, we act selfishly if we can get away with it without any repercussions. One of the strongest bits of evidence against this statement comes from experiments in children that show that very young children are more likely to act selfishly instead of altruistically. Additionally, game theorystudies have shown that people are overall more selfish when they are anonymous compared to when their actions and decisions are being watched. This would seem to indicate Hutterite s beliefs are not so central to our lives. At the same time, these studies also show that people are not as selfish as would be expected if they were only looking out for their benefit. And there are plenty of instances where a person goes out of their way to help a complete stranger. Overall, I think Ridley s claim is mostly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally being able to obey consistently, moreover to follow another person which the child has deemed superior to them self. Further still is the third level of obedience in which the child not only obeys with consistency, but also finds in another person (typically an adult) superiority and follows, unfaltering, the other persons will. The child has reached total control over their own will and trusts the adult implicitly. Dr. Montessori has explained with examples of the Silence Game as a means of measuring this final level obedience. In her explanation she explores how not only do the children obey the signal given for the game (writing Silence on the blackboard), but know before the teacher has even completed writing the S what is coming and immediately go silent. It only takes one child s first movement to stop what they are doing and the rest of the class almost instantaneously quiets. She also explains how it involves the cooperation of the entire group. The trust created during this development creates a different form of responsibility. In this level of obedience the responsibility of the Guide is exponentially increased as her first movement is not only witnessed, but implicitly obeyed. This responsibility must be felt and respected by the Guide. For (Montessori, 1995) she must be cautious not to exploit for her own ends so selfless a dedication (p. 262). This game and ...
