CONTEXT (CLASS-SIZE, LEARNER RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS, LOCATION OF
CLASS, ENVIRONMENT, ETC)
Six questions guiding lesson planning.
Who?
The participants of this lesson are both the teacher and the learners. My lesson plan is
for Grade 10 C20 learners in Seana Marena High School aged 14 to 19 born into a
democratic South Africa. There are 21 learners’ in the classroom which is a
manageable class to teach, it contains of 11 girls and 10 boys. Some of the learners
have visual barriers to learning however, I have placed them in the front row of the
classroom. Quarter of the learners are from disadvantaged backgrounds, there are no
repeaters. All learners are able to learn in English as they have used it since their
primary schooling, they are Sesotho, Setswana, Sepedi and IsiZulu speaking
learners. Most of the learners are based in the same community that the school is in
and they walk to school. While some of the learners come from farther places and use
transport to get to school, and these are either public or private transport. As a teacher,
one has to also make sure that they do not give the learners a biased lesson in which
they choose a side in the topic. The topic has to be presented in all perspectives
available and the learners will be the ones deciding on which opinion they carry
regarding the topic.
2. When?
The lesson will take place on a Monday morning at 8h00, it is the middle of summer
and the temperature outside is mostly sunny conditions. The learners will pay much
attention in the morning compared to in the afternoon. It’s a lesson for grade eleven
leaners in C16.
What?
What are the 8 social issues?
What are the effects of each social issue?
How these issues have a negative impact in our communities?
Where?
The lesson will take place indoors (in the classroom). The classroom laid out in a
learner-centered setting whereby they are seated in groups of four, in order to promote
an effective environment for learners to actively engage with the learning process.
Grouping can help with integration of different kinds of learners so you have the
chance to mix everything up, girls often participate and dominate group discussions in
the classroom. There are tables, chairs, a blackboard and a chalks.
What For?
By the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
Mention at least 8 social issues.
Discuss these issues.
List effects of each social issue.
Demonstrate how these issues have a negative impact in their communities.
Make an awareness poster.
Create their own story using one issue.
How?
Introduction.
The lesson will begin with a recap of the previous lesson that was Social and
Environment Justice. I will remind the learners about the discussion we had about
these concepts and also about the social issues. I will then ask them to tell me of any
social issue they know of just to see if they still remember them. Once I see that they
3. still remember and that we are on the same page I will then proceed with today’s topic
which is: Harmful effects of these issues on personal and community health. Learners
will be expected to listen attentively and answer the teacher’s questions to show their
understanding of the content thus far.
Integration.
I will teach the learners the 8 social issues, discuss with them the effects of each social
issue and how these issues have a negative impact in our communities? Teaching and
learning will take place in a form of question and answer method and direct teaching
method. During the lesson learners will be asked questions in between the direct
teaching method to ensure that they are still paying attention and engaging with the
learning content. At the end of the lesson more questions will be asked to check
whether the learners were listening and also understand the content thus far. They will
also be given homework and classwork activity to do in order to further show their
understanding.
Summary.
To conclude the lesson, I will be asking the learners about the content we have
covered with them. Take any questions they might have about the topic. They will be
given an assessment based on the topic, this is to evaluate whether or not pedagogy
was effective.
4. SPECIFY CONTENT TO BE TAUGHT: (ALSO ATTACH A SEPARATE LIST OF SOURCES FROM
WHICH YOU OBTAINED THE CONTENT.
The lesson that I have prepared for my learners Grade 10 learners is about Changes
associated with development towards adulthood: adolescence to adulthood. These
physical changes include hormonal changes, increased growth rates, bodily
proportions and sex or gender characteristics. The learners will be taught mostly about
the timeframe of when these changes might take place in their life span. Furthermore, I
will cover the effects of these physical modifications.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS VALUES
The content of the lesson
is about physical changes
associated with
development towards
adulthood: adolescence to
adulthood. The learners
(both girls and boys) are
most likely to through this
modification from being
adolescence to adulthood.
These physical changes
that they will be taught
about may include,
hormonal changes,
increased growth rates,
bodily proportions and sex
For our lesson, we will be
using the FOCUS Life
Orientation text book. The
learners will acquire a skill
in which they will acquire
different viewpoints about
the changes they will go
through later in their lives
and have a better
understanding of who they
are.
Understand that people
(both male and female) are
pressurised by different
physical changes that may
have an effect on their
bodies change in different
ways at different times.
5. or gender characteristics.
They should therefore be
able to mention and
discuss those physical
changes that individuals
undergo during their
modification from being
adolescence to adults.
Furthermore, they should
be able to list the effects of
each physical change.
TEACHING MEDIA AND LEARNING MATERIALS (BOOKS, ETC) NEEDED
1. School text books (FOCUS Life Orientation Grade 10)
2. Projector
3. Online PowerPoint presentation (slides)
4. Print out of slides (in case we have power cut)
5. A computer or any other gadget
INTRODUCTORY/INVITATIONAL PHASE (HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE LEARNERS
INTERESTED IN YOUR LESSON?)
TEACHER-ACTIVITIES
To introduce the lesson I will tell the
learners what the lesson is about and I
will also state the lesson outcomes of
the lesson we are about to engage in. I
have prepared an A3 poster for
introducing my lesson. I will ask the
LEARNER-ACTIVITIES
Learners will be expected to listen mindfully
to the teacher and also answer the teacher’s
questions to show their current knowledge.
The learners will respond to the open ended
question of the teacher in the classroom,
where they will be giving me their different
6. learners what they think about my
poster, like what is the poster about.
Once one of my learners gets the
answer correct that the poster is about
physical changes that one undergoes
during their life span, I will ask them
further questions just to try and find out
what it is that they already know about
these physical changes. I will firstly ask
them to name any of those physical
changes. I will use a question and
answer teaching method and a baseline
assessment as I will be asking for their
general knowledge on what physical
changes doe’s one go through when
developing form adolescence to
adulthood.
opinions on what physical changes they are
going to experience when changing from
being an adolescence to being an adult.

TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES
TEACHER-ACTIVITIES LEARNER-ACTIVITIES
I will be implementing the phase of the
lesson, in which I will be presenting the
new content to the learners. I have
prepared an online PowerPoint
presentation for the lesson, I will give
the learners a link to log into in order to
access the slides. However, I have
made copies in case we have a power
cut. I will Teach them about these
physical changes which are hormonal
changes, bodily proportions and sex or
gender characteristics. In addition we
will look at how these changes affect
ones lives. Furthermore in the lesson I
will be asking them questions relating to
the topic and facilitating discussion.
The learners will follow the guidelines go
through the link in order to gain entry to the
slides that I have prepared for the lesson.
The learners will be participating in the
discussion about physical changes which
will be our lesson for the day. The learners
will avail themselves and take in the new
content given to them by the educator,
during the process of teaching and learning
learners can ask questions to clarify any
misconceptions. In addition they will also be
questioned based on the content covered
and they will are expected answer these
questions.
PLANNED FORMS OF ASSESSMENT (HOW LEARNERS WILL BE ASSESSED)
APPROACH HOW IT WILL BE DONE
Baseline Question and Answer method will be used
to identify how much the learners know
about the area of knowledge. As I have
mentioned before, I will ask them of any
physical alteration they might know of that
they as adolescence may endure in the
process of becoming adults.
8. Diagnostic
Formative I will give them an online classroom
exercise or I can call it a game. It is a quiz
on Kahoot they will finish in a short space
of time after wrapping up the lesson.

SUMMARY AND INTEGRATION (HOW THE LESSON WILL BE CONCLUDED)
As done in the introduction phase, I state the lesson outcomes of the lesson to check if
we have reached them. I will give the learners an opportunity to ask any question they
might have and the learners will take the opportunity to ask questions about the lesson.
To make the lesson more awesome even at the end, I will ask the learners to log into
google and type the URL Kahoot. Kahoot is a free-game based learning platform, they
will be required to take part in a quiz game I have prepared for them the game pin is

motor development/hearing/sight/speech/language)
Physical (mobility)
Psychological (stress/depression/anxiety/poor self-esteem)
Social (substance abuse/child abuse/rape/teen motherhood/pregnancy/bullying)
Socio-economic (poverty/unemployment/hunger)
9. PLANNED ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR LEARNERS WITH BARRIERS
I will first have to look at my learners score for the online class activity or quiz first. This
activity was used to analyse the learner’s performance and make the lesson interesting
as the same time. For the learners who encountered difficulties with this activity I will
personally stay behind with them after school and in order to go through the lesson
again and try to fill in the gaps that where created the other day. If I find that the
problem is that some learners cannot see properly, I will place them in the front row of
the classroom going forward. For those who cannot hear clearly, I will try and raise my
voice next time.
