2. Joe worked several part-time jobs, trying to make
a living.
He was homeless for a long time.

his schooling to receive his electrician’s

3. Jenny dropped out of school at 16.
She is a single mother of “two amazing boys.”

Jenny works at her
family’s restaurant and
has enrolled in college.
4. Ken dropped out of school in tenth grade. He
struggled with ADHD and dyslexia.
He had never read a book from cover to cover.
At 58, Ken needed to learn to read, write and spell.

“Now that I have been in the Plymouth
Literacy Program for three years I have
read eight books from cover to cover
and learned to write an essay.”
Ken graduated and his 86 year old mother
was able to see him receive his diploma.
5. Kaitlin was a victim of bullying
and dropped out in her junior
year.
She wants to complete her GED
so she can better support her
son.
Her goal is to someday get a
house of her own.
Kaitlin was our first scholarship
recipient.

I would be somewhere in the
wrong direction without this
program.
Kaitlin is now enrolled in
school, studying to be a vet
assistant.
6. Jeremiah worked as a cook for twenty years.
He is recovering from alcohol and drug
addiction.
Jeremiah was promoted to kitchen manager, and he
also works helping others to recover from addiction.

for my wife and family. In my
opinion, that’s what a sober
man’s life should be about.”
7. Sophia was a varsity sports player and student at Plymouth
North until crippling anxiety caused her drop out.
At that low point she “saw no future for herself.”

better. I can’t wait for what the
future has in store for me.”
After graduating, Sophia continued
her education by taking yacht crew
training courses.
8. Keilia
“After having had to
wait so long to move
forward in life I’m
ready to throw it to the
wind and take advantage
of every possible
opportunity out there for
me.”
Keila has worked in a tattoo shop for 10
years as a receptionist/manager.
Her dream is to
be a tattoo artist,
but without her
diploma she
isn’t qualified to
get the necessary
certifications.
Keilia graduated this year and can
now take the college courses she
needs.
9. At 18, Stephanie’s parents had kicked her
out.
She was hungry; she didn’t have a car and
had lost her license.
When three of Stephanie’s friends were shot,
her quick thinking and first aid saved their
lives.
Stephanie decided she wanted to be a nurse
and enrolled in the Plymouth Literacy
Program.

“Extra help is a phone call,
E-mail, or text away and the teachers
are always encouraging us to go
farther.”
Stephanie graduated
this year and plans to
enroll in nursing school.
10. Brandon dropped out of school to help his family pay
the bills.
When he started the Literacy Program, he didn’t know
how to turn on his laptop.
Now that Brandon has his diploma,
“college doesn’t look too bad.”

actually appreciate this program. I’m
doing better here than I ever did in
school and it still blows my mind.”
11. Sydney
I am excited to say that
as my son takes his first
steps into kindergarten, I
should also be taking
my first steps into
college!
Sydney graduated this year and is going
to college. Pictured on right, Sydney

graduate, and her son.
Sydney, a single mom, cares for her son
with special needs.
She had attended Literacy Program classes
but dropped out due to childcare issues.
When classes
went remote,
she tried
again.

“I have made so many
friends on this journey and
may be able to do some of
the jobs I’ve dreamed of
doing for so long.”
