Lisa Dawidowicz lived in Poland before World War II. She attended a Polish school and lived with her family until the German invasion. To hide from the Germans, Lisa and her family lived in an underground potato cellar for 16 months, where there was little room and they could only breathe through a hole covered by pumpkins. After the war, Lisa stayed in a displaced persons camp before immigrating to the United States in 1949.
