Sweden is a monarchy where the royal family serves as representatives and has no power to rule. The government is elected every four years and led by a prime minister from the party with a majority or coalition. During World War II, Sweden maintained neutrality through concessions like allowing German troops to pass through. This helped keep Sweden out of the war while also allowing information to be leaked to allies. Around 15,000 Jews were rescued from concentration camps by white buses organized by Count Folke Bernadotte.
