 The connectors ( 'Linking Words') are those words
that help us connect several sentences.
 The connectors are used to connect several
sentences indicating the relationship they have with
each other
Linking words can be used to:
Link the flow of ideas in your writing
 Guide your reader towards the next stage
of your argument
 Link paragraphs together.
The linking words or connectors, have several
functions, such as contrast information, make
comparisons, add information or give reasons or
explanations. If we use these words incorrectly we
can completely change the meaning of the phrase
and can cause confusion.
EXAMPLES
AND
This linking is the most common word to add information.
"And" it is used in sentences, often separated by commas
lists, although never a comma is used before or after
"and".
Example: He loves sport. He plays football, basketball and
tennis.
ALSO
it is used between the subject and the verb to give
additional information or for emphasis.
Example: I Also likes to ski. (He also likes skiing.)
IN ADDITION:
If you want to start a sentence with a connector can use
'in Addition' ( 'plus'), which always used to start phrase.
Remember that it is always followed by a comma.
Example: He likes football. She also likes tennis.
AS WELL AS
This linking word translated as 'plus' in Spanish, can be
used at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence.
Example: I plays football as well as basketball. (Play
football plus basketball.)
BUT / HOWEVER:
Both connectors are used with this sense of contrast.
However, the particle 'but' ( 'but') not to start commonly
used phrase, in this case use 'however' ( 'but').
Eg. He likes football but does not like tennis.
He likes football. However, he does not like tennis.
ALTHOUGH:
we can also use ', Although' ( 'but'), which is not followed
by coma and can go to the beginning or in the middle of
the sentence.
Eg. Although he likes football, he does not like tennis.
SO:
This connector is used to talk about the result, and is
often used phrase in the middle.
Eg. He likes soccer, so was the match.
BECAUSE:
This connector indicates why we have done
something.
Eg. It was the party because he likes football.
LIKE
- "Like" Usually used is at the beginning of a sentence
with a comma Between the first and second
statement.
As it was raining when I left, I brought an umbrella
BESIDES
besides being cheap, it's beautiful (As well as being
cheap, it's Also beautiful)
DUE:
Due to rain, we could not play tennis
THANKS TO:
Thanks to this club, I met many nice people
THEN:
If there isn’t any white left, then take the blue one
