This document outlines an experiment to study the linear motion of an object using a trolley, ticker timer, and metalized recording paper. The procedure involves connecting the components, releasing the trolley down an inclined track, and marking the recording paper with the ticker timer to obtain strips that represent the trolley's change in velocity over time. These strips are then analyzed to calculate the trolley's displacement, velocity, acceleration, and their relationships to time.

1.To study the linear motion of a moving object.
2.To determine the displacement, velocity and
acceleration of the motion

3. APPARATUS
 Ticker timer
 Metalized recording paper(1m long)
 Runaway(1m long)
 Power supply input (a.c12v)
 A cart/troley
 Connecting wires
 Plastic block

5. PROCEDURE
1.Make the connection as shown in figure 1

6. 2.Clip the metalized recording paper at end of
the trolley. Connect it to the ticker timer
which is placed at the end of the track.
3.On the ticker timer, and release the trolley in
the downward position along the track

7. 4.Startingfrom the first point of the metalized
recording paper, mark-up at every 1o ticker
point.Each point marked is termed as a ticker
point. A ticker time is counted from one ticker
point to the other. Look at the figure 3 given
below.

8. 5.Cut the 10 ticker time strips.Refer to figure
3.Design a chart by sticking the strips one
after the other, on a piece of paper. Refer to
figure 4

9. CALCULATION
The chart formed will represent a graph of
change in velocity against time
1.How many strips of the 1o ticker time are
obtain?
2.Time taken: seconds
3.The total displacement of the trolley: meter
4.Average velocity=Total displacement/ Strips
time obtained

10. 5.Trolley’s acceleration:
 Initial velocity, u=Length of first strip/1o ticker time
 Final velocity, v =Length of the last strip/1o ticker
time
 Time for acceleration, t=(Numbers of the 1o ticker
time strips-1)x1o ticker time.
 Acceleration,a=v-u/t
 Average trolley’s velocity:
velocity=u+v/2

11. DISCUSSION
 The length of strip increase when the velocity
of trolley increase
 The acceleration of trolley increase when the
time increase

12. CONCLUSION
When the time increase while the velocity of
trolley also increase.The length of strips are
depend on the velocity.
