13. LIFEBOAT RELEASE MECHANISM

quickly and perfectly As that ensures the

14. ON LOAD MECHANISM
Focuses on releasing lifeboats from the
wire, with crew members inside the boat.
Operates with the boat close to water to
ensure a smooth landing
Renders least damage to the boat or the crew.

15. OFF LOAD MECHANISM
This type of mechanism releases lifeboats after
it is fully on the sea.
The hydrostatic piston unit at its bottom is
connected to the operating lever.
Once waterborne, the water pressure
moves the lever up which will release the
fall wire.

16. FREE FALL LIFEBOAT RELEASE
MECHANISM
Launches from stowed position by operating a
lever inside the boat to release it.
Causes the boat to slide through the titled
ramp and onto the surface of the water.

18. TIPS FOR PROPER LIFEBOAT MAINTENANCE
Inspect the boat every 3 months to avoid rupture and damage
Check hull regularly for cracks and drills
Check the air support system regularly
Keep pressure in check to avoid the passage of toxic gases
in the air bottles
Check sprinkler system regularly to avoid frozen or damaged
valves
Test engine for at least 3 minutes every week
Check battery regularly and renew it every 2-3 years

19. HOW OFTEN SHOULD A LIFEBOAT BE INSPECTED?
Adhering to onboard company checklist, weekly and monthly
checks are a must. Shore engineers shall conduct annual and 5
Yearly tests. Timely maintenance ensures perfect operation
condition of the lifeboat.
