2. Where can I find articles?
From the library website
select the database icon.
3. The Databases
A-Z Databases lists all the various databases available.
Descriptions beneath the database titles describes
the contents of that service.
When searching for articles look at databases that
offer article indexes, citations, abstracts and full text
articles.
Don’t limit yourself to full text only databases. You
may miss many important articles pertinent to your
research.
Remember that articles you do not find may be
requested through RapidILL inter-library loan.
4. Proxy Server
When you select a database to
search you are required to logon
to the University’s proxy server.
This authenticates you as an
Eastern University user.
The username and password are
the same as that use to logon to
other Eastern University services
such as MyEastern.
6. Access World News
Access World News, also known
as Newsbank, allows searches
across hundreds of newspapers
and thousands of news articles.
The service provides Special
Reports that gathers information
from many resources and
presents it in one convenient
location.
7. LexisNexis Academic
Lexis is a huge reference database that
allows searches across a variety of
news resources, including newspapers,
news broadcast transcripts and blogs.
You can also search for the full text of
court cases, legislation and additional
legal information.
Lexis is also an indispensible tool for
finding company information.
9. EBSCOhost and ProQuest
Both EBSCOhost and ProQuest
contain databases that include
popularly written publications
such as magazines and trade
periodicals.
11. Annual Reviews
Annual Reviews offers reviews
of the literature across a range
of academic disciplines.
Articles and the bibliographies
at the end of the reviews
provide an excellent means to
find the most relevant
information on a subject,
Coverage is primarily in the
sciences and social sciences.
12. EBSCOhost
EBSCOhost offers a wide range of
databases that include access to
citations and the full text of academic
journals.
Databases within EBSCOhost of special
academic interest include Academic
Search Complete, Business Source,
CINAHL, PsycInfo and PsycArticles.
Check with the descriptions on the A to
Z Databases site to learn about the
offerings within EBSCOhost.
13. ProQuest
ProQuest offers a range of databases
largely in the social sciences.
Sociological Abstracts offers the most
complete index of academic journals
available.
The ProQuest Sociology database
provides full text to many of the most
important journals in the social
sciences.
There are other databases within
ProQuest well worth the effort to
explore.
14. JSTOR
JSTOR is a digital library of academic
journals, books, and primary sources.
Eastern University’s subscription grants
access to a large selection of academic
and professional journals with a focus
on the sciences, social sciences,
economics and education.
15. Sage Premier
This service gives you access to a
collection of over 240 of the highly
regarded Sage Journals, covering a variety
of professional and academic disciplines.
Eastern University’s subscription covers
health sciences, life & biomedical
sciences, material sciences & engineering,
social sciences & humanities.
16. RapidILL
When you can’t find the full text of an
article from our databases request an
inter-library loan using Rapid ILL.
Articles not found in our database
collections are e-mailed to you
directly through the RapidILL service,
usually within 48 hours.
17. A to Z Journal List
Want to know which journal title are
owned by the library? Search the A to
Z Journal List found at the top of the
database list.
You may not need to wait for that
inter-library loan! The list will show
you all the journals that the library
owns and the issues that are available
online.
