WHY IS THE CENSUS IMPORTANT?
• Money. Qualify for an accurate portion of $675 billion in funding for
essential programs and services. (About $2,300 per person per
year).
• Power. Count used to reapportion seats in Congress and assure
proper district representation in state and local governments.
• Data. See how our community has changed and use that data to
plan for the future.
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM 2010
• Response rate was 71%
• Under 5 age group was undercounted nationwide
• Low response areas were Gum Branch,
Walthourville, and unincorporated Hinesville
• Lost out on about 14,000 people due to deployment
(approx. $322 million withheld from our community)
GOAL
To reach every resident
of Liberty County, Georgia and Fort Stewart
to make sure they are counted
in the right place at the right time and have
80% of these residents respond by April 1, 2020.

FAQ
How can I get employed? Employment is done online through the U.S. Census
Bureau (not locally). Visit 2020census.gov/jobs.
Will Fort Stewart be counted? Yes. Soldiers and their families stationed at Fort
Stewart will be part of the Liberty County Census count. They will not use their
home of record during deployment.
Is it true the Census is online only? In 2020, people will have three options to
self respond -- internet, phone, and paper. Internet is the preferred option and
will be offered beginning March 12.
