Tuan Huynh, the General Manager of LensCrafters, writes a letter of recommendation for Ashley, an employee of over a year. He describes Ashley as hardworking, dependable, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and always willing to help others. Huynh says Ashley is never late, rarely calls in sick, and can be relied on to complete difficult tasks. Despite being a college student, Ashley was always willing to work extra hours and maintained good grades. Huynh believes any company that hires Ashley will benefit from her positive impact on both the business and its employees.

Parametric study on slender column for flat plate structureeSAT Journals
Abstract This paper deals with effect of slender column on flat plate structure. The column is called slender if the height of is increased for functional purpose. The study is conducted on 18 flat-plate reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structural models. Among these18 models, 54 columns at three different locations (i.e. corner, edge and inner columns) are chosen for study. The models are developed using ETABS Software. Parametric study is performed by considering six different height of column ranging from 3048 mm to 6858 mm, using an increment of 762 mm along with three slab panels of size 4572 mm x 4572 mm, 6096 mm x6096 mm and 7620 mm x 7620 mm with five panels in both ways, considering both gravity and environmental load. The effect of slenderness ratio on load carrying capacity, design load and steel ratio is considered along with this the effect of additional moment due to slender compression member is also taken into account. It is observed that, columns in flat-plate structures are generally very sensitive if they are slender. It is observed that as the column length increases from 5502 mm and further, the steel ratio suddenly increases and it exceeds maximum allowed. As slenderness ratio increases, ratio of design load to the critical buckling load increases. Also resulting in increase of additional moment, decreasing load carrying capacity of column. This forces the design engineer to study effect of different parameter of the structure while designing high rise flat plate structure. Keywords: Flat Plate Structure, ETABS, Slenderness, Environmental load, design load and buckling load.
In politics, business, and education, individuals need to be held .docxbradburgess22840
In politics, business, and education, individuals need to be held accountable for their actions. Unfortunately, too many people do not know what it means to be accountable. This chapter discusses the concepts of accountability and workplace relationships. The concepts of empowerment, responsibility, and accountability are all about personal choices. These personal choices not only impact how successfully you will perform at work but have a tremendous impact on workplace relationships.
In chapter 5 we discussed power bases and how workplace power affects politics and ethical behavior. Employees in the workplace have power. Unfortunately, many people in the workplace do not use their power appropriately or at all. As companies place an increased focus on quality and performance, correct decision making by employees becomes more and more important.
Empowerment is pushing power and decision making to the individuals who are closest to the customer in an effort to increase quality, customer satisfaction, and, ultimately, profits. The foundation of this basic management concept means that if employees feel they are making a direct contribution to a company's activities, they will perform better. This will then increase quality and customer satisfaction.
Consider the case of a manager for a retail customer service counter telling his employee to make the customer happy. The manager feels he has empowered his employee. However, the next day, the manager walks by the employee's counter and notices that the employee has given customers refunds for their returns, even when the return did not warrant a refund. The boss immediately disciplines the employee for poor performance. Didn't the employee do exactly what the manager asked the employee to do? Did the manager truly empower his employee? The answer is no. Telling someone to do something is different than showing someone the correct behavior. The employee interpreted the phrase "make the customer happy" differently from the manager's intention. The proper way for the manager to have empowered the employee would have been to discuss the company's return policies, role-play various customer scenarios, and then monitor the employee's performance. If or when the employee made errors through the training process, the wrong behavior should have been immediately corrected while good performance should have immediately received positive reinforcement.
When you, as an employee, demonstrate a willingness to learn, you have taken responsibility. Responsibility is accepting the power that is being given to you. If you are not being responsible, you are not fully utilizing power that has been entrusted to you. The concept of empowerment and responsibility is useless without accountability. Accountability means that you will report back to whoever gave you the power to carry out that responsibility. Employees at all levels of an organization are accountable to each other, their bosses, their customers, and the com.

To whom it may concern:
As a General Manager (GM) for over eight years I have seen many employees
come and go. Because of large staff sizes, in some cases I never even knew their
names. That is not the case with Ashley; I have had the privilege of working with her
for over a year when I was hired on as the new GM at LensCrafters. It is very difficult
not to notice someone who is hardworking and always giving of their time even
when they are called in on their day off.
In the work industry we seek people who are dependable, trustworthy,
knowledgeable, easy to teach, hardworking, and unselfish; she is that person. If you
are searching for someone with these qualities and someone who will not call in
sick, someone who will always be on time, someone you can count on with a difficult
task, she is what you are searching for. Even as a college student she was always
willing to work extra hours and still maintained good grades and a great attitude.
We gave her a higher pay raise this term then what was allowed because we knew
the investment in a loyal associate was well worth it. When associates put in their
two week notice we usually just let them leave right then, but with Ashley we have
tried to keep her as long as possible. She will be very difficult to replace and missed
by everyone on the staff. Not a single person has something negative to say about
her because we know she is the easiest person to get along with, and she is always
willing to help even if it is not in her job description.
I know any company that hires this young lady will truly be blessed with a
person that will not only impact the business in a positive way but impact the
peoples lives around her in an even greater way. She is young, full of energy and
ready to work. She has expressed that she is ready to be out in the real world
working 50hrs a week and going on business trips to learn and expand her
knowledge in her desired field. This type of work mentality is not one you will see
everyday. The younger generation feels they are owed something in life, but Ashley
believes it is earned through hard work and dedication. I know she must move on to
bigger and better things in life that our company cannot offer her here, but I know
no matter where her bright future may lead she will be ready and willing to work
with one hundred percent of her capability.
