To Whom It May Concern:
It was my privilege to be a professor for Janice Powell a year ago at Fanshawe College. Janice was
a student in one of my courses, Introduction to Travel and Tourism. She consistently
demonstrated a strong work ethic, leadership abilities in group work and was always on time,
ready to listen, participate and contribute. I recognized Janice’s ability to work as a team player,
learn new things quickly and to adapt to different business environments as she comes from a
background as a personal support worker and yet was still very quick to apply her life
experiences to her new career path choice. I enjoyed reading Janice’s weekly posts as she always
answered the questions with creativity, intelligence and depth of thought. She is a student that
doesn’t do the “bare minimum”—she always goes above and beyond and I believe that is the
mark of an individual who will excel in a professional capacity. Janice always exhibited a great
deal of respect for others and maintained a very outgoing attitude and intelligence that became
more evident as our course together progressed. I believe she would be an excellent addition to
a business team.
Academically, Janice was in the top 5 percent of my class. I found that she was a natural and
gregarious leader, passionate about helping others and about travel, and she was eager to tackle
any question or problem with an open mind. Janice has just completed an 8 month internship
and semester exchange in Ireland, where she added to her travel experience and professional
acumen. Previously she lived and worked in Australia for a year. These experiences add to
Janice’s passion for all things “travel” and indeed give her a unique perspective of traveling in
other countries and living there. This is invaluable in any role of providing travel service to
clients.
I taught part time at Fanshawe last year. In addition, I have run own corporate training business
for 20 years. I train people on a variety of topics, such as leadership, management, how to
provide exceptional customer service, how to interview, how to hire, etc. Janice exhibits the
qualities that would make her a wonderful addition to any team, in any customer service
oriented industry. Her oral and written communication skills are very good and she is always
keen to be part of a team, striving to meet collective goals and continually improve herself. In
short, I believe a business would benefit from Janice as much as she will benefit from them!
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information regarding this letter or Janice. It
is my privilege to recommend her!
Sincerely,
Heather Connell-Brown
