25. Compound
•A compound is formed by
combining two or more different
elements that are chemically
combined.
26. 2 Types of Compounds
1. Organic Compounds are a large class of chemical
compounds wherein carbon atoms are covalently
(chemical bonds formed by the sharing of electrons)
linked to atoms of other elements such as oxygen,
nitrogen, and hydrogen.
2. Inorganic Compounds deal with those that are not
predominantly carbon-based.

28. Elements Compounds
1. It is a simplified form of
matter which cannot be
decomposed by ordinary
chemical means.
2. Example: Oxygen and
Hydrogen
1. A compound is formed by
combining two or more
different elements that are
chemically combined.
2. Example: Water
29. Classify the following as elements, or compounds.
1. Hydrogen (H)
2. Calcium (Ca)
3. Glucose (C6H12O6)
4. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
5. Helium (He)
6. Carbon dioxide (CO2)
7. Water (H2O)
8. Manganese (Mn)
9. Potassium (K)
10. Nickel (Ni)
30. Essential Elements and Compounds
• Potassium- is very important mineral to the human body. It has
various roles in metabolism and body functions.
• Sodium- It controls the ability of your body to regulate water.
• Iron- It is essential for oxygen transport and energy capture.
• Calcium phosphate- It gives bones their strength, structure and
density.
31. Valuing:
• Keeping healthy is important. Therefore, we must eat a well-
balanced diet. Water is a compound that makes up more than half of
our body weight, so we need to take in lots of water (around 2-3 litres
a day), especially on hot days. Other compounds we need are starch
for energy, proteins for growth, and elements like magnesium, iron,
iodine, and others for certain body functions. There are also other
compounds we need to regulate like sugar, cholesterol and fats.
Taking in too much of these can eventually lead to poor health. Let us
eat well and be well.
