Editor's Notes

  1. Knowing to manage your emotions is very important. You have to understand how your emotions influence the way you think and how you act upon your experiences. IQ is not enough to become successful in life. You need to be emotionally intelligent so that you can cope well and enjoy your journey in life.
  2. Now, let us define Emotional Intelligence. So what is EI? EI or Emotional Intelligence-is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, and those of the people around you. *People with a high degree of emotional intelligence know what they're feeling, what their emotions mean, and how these emotions can affect other people.
  3. Now, I will show you some scenarios..and try to answer in your own..
  4. All of us experience different emotions. These emotions affect our performance in school and our relationship with other. Limbic system – the area in your brain that reacts automatically to the world around you without your rational thought or reasoning all emotions have reasons as to why you feel them.
  5. Cognitive aspect – so when you interpret an experience as threatening, negative emotions such as anger or anxiety may be felt. Physical Aspects- when you are anxious, your heartbeat becomes faster or you may even experience fainting. Behavioral aspect –or leaving unfinished tasks because of boredom.
  6. Emotions are measured through: Psychological tests are the self-report instruments that they need to answer at your own. The can also measured through Physiological ways such as monitoring blood pressure, heart beat, sweating of palms, and even brain activities. Finally, emotions are measured through behavioral manifestations such as facial expressions and tone of the voice. Physiological – can be measured by through monitoring blood pressure, heart beat, sweating of palms and even through blood and brain chemistry. Psychological/behavioral manifestation such as facial expressios and the tone of voice. To illustrate, you do not talk to people when you are angry, or you leave unfinished tasks when you are bored. they
  7. Positive emotions – happiness, love, joy, hope and excitement. Negative emotions- angel range, boredom and disgust. !! We must know hhow to handle our emotions.
  8. Knowing to handle or manage our emotions is important. Emotions are so powerful- they can make or break an individual. To manage it well, here are the following steps: 1. You need to notice and be aware of your emotions. You have to recognize what you feel in a particular situation or experience. Example: let's say that your bestfriend did not tell you that he or she is currently engaged in a relationship? How would you feel? 2.You have to identify and name what you feel. You have to think or even list those feelings that you felt about your best friend. You may feel angry, disappointed, or even betrayed. These negative feelings are the reasons that you want space and do not want to see or talk to him/her. The third step in managing emotions is.. 3. You have to own and accept what you feel There is nothing wrong with what you feel. If you are angry, it is normal to feel that way. However, losing your temper that makes you shout out to people who are clueless about your problem is a sign of being controlled by your emotions. Finally, the last step in managing emotions is 4. Discernment and appropriation You do not just recognize what you feel but you also take the appropriate action or steps to deal with your feelings. Yes you may not want to talk to your bestfriend because of anger, but you cannot stay in that mode forever unless you have decided to end your relationship permanently. If you dont want that to happen, You may talk to someone you trust, so that you can release your negative feelings and then later come up with your plans or actions on how to deal with your feelings. You may have a heart to heart talk with your bestfriend when you are ready.
