Starting the lesson
Timing Activity Description
Introduction In this lesson we are going to learn what a resource is and track resource
usage from primitive times to 2008. Look at relationships between MEDC/
LEDC and their resource consumption.
5 mins Starter Students have one minute to write their own definition of what a resource
is.. Put simple definition on the board and ask students to write it down.
Discussion. Natural Resources, Human Resources etc.
Main section
5 mins Activity 1 Students to study image on PowerPoint showing a primitive group of
people and come up with their own list of a humans resource needs.
Students can enter their thoughts on the sheet around the image of Fred
Flintstone Should be basic needs. Check on board.
5 mins Activity 2 Students to look carefully at he image of the evolution of man and
comment in their books about what it shows. Why the overweight man
with a McDonalds cup? What is this meant to show?
Ask students to study the graph on the board and talk through the world
population increase – point out that MEDC population is set to grow quite
slowly in comparison to LEDC’s. Remember the Brandt line?

mins Students to use their own photos of their bedrooms to annotate

natural resource was used in the production. Is this the only
resource use we have to take into consideration? What about
